To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

There are 34,412 Metropolitan police officers in a city of approx 7milliom residents plus maybe 1 - 2 million extra people visiting/commuting in on any day.
There are very, very few police per capita. If a large enough group of people want to do protest, or riot, or loot some stores, or run naked down the street or egg people (or march into parliament) they can - there is never going to be enough police to overcome a large group of people intent on doing something bar the police mowing them down with guns.

It's impossible to stop people protesting - they aren't carrying weapons or anything that would show up on metal detector/security bag searches.

Unless all sports pitches and roads were enclosed in massive metal security cages, in which case you probably wouldn't feel that keen to go to the event or be able to cross a road.

Just Stop Oil people come from all walks of life - you aren't going to be able to screen them all out of an event.

Proper jail sentences for trespass on the motorways, endangering the public etc, instead of the police namby pambying round them. If they choose to scale Bridges, keep the traffic flowing. "On your own head be it" was one of my late mothers favourite sayings.
Oh and the celebrities who come out in support of them, shove them in a jail.cell as well and let us get on with our lives

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 16:02

It’s the thugs that are punching, kicking and dragging the protestors that are frightening.

Thats true.

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:04

Drivers are an angry bunch

VampireHouse · 19/07/2023 15:33

There’s lots of videos on tiktok of them letting emergency services through. I’ve also been walking past when they’ve done this. I saw a video of a very polite man asking the protestors to let him through as his wife was in the car in labour, they said ‘of course’ and moved.

It’s the thugs that are punching, kicking and dragging the protestors that are frightening.

They're not thugs, they're ordinary people trying to go about their business, hampered by morons in orange vests.

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 16:08

They're not thugs, they're ordinary people trying to go about their business, hampered by morons in orange vests.

They’re thugs. Ordinary people aren’t violent.

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:09

How come these 'ordinary people' don't get as angry sitting for hours in traffic jams caused by road works or accidents or sheer weight of traffic

Jigslaw · 19/07/2023 16:09

YANBU, it works to the government's advantage to let them crack on though. The more the general public get annoyed with JSO and their disruption the more likely people are to not be arsed with the message they're spreading.

They’re thugs. Ordinary people aren’t violent.

Ordinary people incensed by morons as I said.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 19/07/2023 16:12

They are not 'THUGS'

Just the frustrated public trying to get through their day

Love a good old mumsnet pearl clutch!

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 16:12

Ordinary people incensed by morons as I said

If you want to justify violence, that’s up to you. They’re thugs that enjoy a fight.

midgetastic · 19/07/2023 16:12

As things get worse more and more people will turn violent

Civil war isn't improbable

War with European refugees as the trigger also is quite possible

I am not sure they are helping but I can understand why - because without big hurtful changes it's going to be carnage

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 19/07/2023 16:13

@IfItAintBrokeBreakIt

No they aren't. Would you just sit there like a good girl then? Wringing your hands?

What would YOU do?

The slow walking infuriates me in a way I canr explain.

I saw a video yesterday where the car driver ran over an idiots foot.

I don’t think the protester was the idiot in that incident.

midgetastic · 19/07/2023 16:15

And the talk of violence - our government and establishment is preparing huge physical violence against us

The more warming we have the more we will be physically hurt

What we have is the equivalent of someone building up an army and preparing to attack us and then yelling violence when someone counter attacks first

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:15

Forever friends, 'what would you do?' - cycle

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:17

If someone slow walking infuriates you, you have anger issues

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 16:19

No they aren't. Would you just sit there like a good girl then? Wringing your hands?

I’ve been stuck behind them and was late for an appointment. I just waited. I managed not to assault them. Amazingly.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 19/07/2023 16:19

Ambulances also struggle to get through when thousands of cars each containing exactly one person get in each others way on roads in and out of cities on a daily basis.

If you’re that concerned make the roads exclusively for Ambulances and keep the bloody cars out of the way. Ambulance lane and bus lane and cars are banned. Then everyone will be happy, right ?

WildUnchartedWaters · 18/07/2023 21:43

Wimbledon?
You think most people travel to Wimbledon by public transport?

Don't forget Silverstone. I hadn't realised the helicopters were all public transport.

I'm quite tempted to start a pressure group called Just Stop Private Aircraft.

Brumbies · 19/07/2023 16:20

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:17

If someone slow walking infuriates you, you have anger issues

Slow walking on a footpath is fine.

Slow walking on a road is not.

Jigslaw · 19/07/2023 16:22

It's important to remember that the gov are currently trying to curtail protestors rights and make more illegal, ordinary people disrupted by this aren't going to be pressuring the gov to sort out oil use are they, they're going to be angry that the police aren't doing anything and will probably be more supportive of stricter rules around protesting. Another win for the government. Most are affluent hypocrites anyway makes you wonder if they're on someone's payroll as their actions are feeding nicely into quite a few gov aims.

Strawberrypicnic · 19/07/2023 16:23

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 15:14

Crazy that people think these so called 'security's breaches' are more scary than the worlds current heat wave

So true. This thread makes me feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

listsandbudgets · 19/07/2023 16:25

WeWereInParis · 18/07/2023 15:18

But it's not like they're getting weapons into these places. Mainly they're just jumping a barrier. Apart from massive fences, or loads of guards, how do you stop that.

Surely if you can jump a barrier with a bucket of orange paint you can do the same with a gun?

ynbu op it worries me too

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:27

Brambles, people slow walking in a road doesn't make me angry, people making unnecessary car journeys pisses me off more, still - I wouldn't be punching anyone
