To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

WildUnchartedWaters · 18/07/2023 15:09

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

They are absolute fucking morons. Turning many people against their cause.

Ultimately how ? Are people going to drive more miles, eat another cow just because it might piss off JSO ?

We live in interesting times. As the proverb goes.

Because where as most people might have listened at least politely, the majority of people detest them.

@AnSolas they are terrorists.

I think it’s good they are highlighting their cause but I don’t believe any of us have the power to stop something that’s already been set so far in motion.

Their methods are terrible and they just piss me off.

I completely agree with you OP and have been thinking the same myself - it really worries me how they seem to be getting everywhere this summer, if they can get onto the court at Wimbledon etc it does make you wonder who else could…

I agree. It's all very well to say they could but they havent.

How long until an idiot with a confetti box has a knife or a bomb?

I know a whole group of JSO and XR protesters and the fallacy about not letting ambulances get through is a total lie. They stop traffic, leave the road for ES, walk to the next traffic crossing then block again before they usually get arrested. Not a lot of ESVs stopping to be on video saying thanks for letting us through!

AIBot · 18/07/2023 21:53

If anyone tried to smuggle weapons or bombs into Wimbledon or any other major sporting event, they’d most likely be caught by airport style security measures.

WildUnchartedWaters · 18/07/2023 21:54

kannnet96 · 18/07/2023 20:00

What they are doing is working as people are talking about them. They are headline news every time they do something

Yes but..
We are talking about them being in the headlines and in the vast majority how bad it is.

I dont understand why anyone would see it and think yes that's brilliant, I'm going to join their cause and do ..well what. Does anyone know anyone who thinks that?

In a positive way?

Why on earth should they say thanks for letting them through? That thought process is ....insane.

They don't come across as anywhere near intelligent enough to enact a major data breach or hack into anything, more likely their idiotic actions could cause someone to get hurt. By all means hang off a gantry if it's only your own life youre risking, but other people shouldn't be put at risk having to bring them down, or running the risk of having a protestor fall onto their vehicle, causing a possible RTA.

All drivers know how traffic jams work.
If a driver cant move they cant create space for ES to flow through and ahead of heavy traffic.
So any protest which stops traffic, traps ES, and slows overall responce times down.

@AnSolas they are terrorists.

At the moment they would be classes as engaging in acts civil disobedience and (minor) property damage.

The general population respond to their acts in anger not fear and not legally classed as a terror orgnisation. Where being a member wouild be a chargable offence

but in general they are not winning the hearts or minds of Jo Public.
Eg would you vote most likely to be bought a beer by a member of the public (the jury pool) or who would get convicted by a jury

Note where they are targeting both the bus lane and the general traffic lane while consuming plastic clothing products and electronics produced by oil.

And yes SerendipityJane if I have an option to take a car and drive the long way around a protest or sit on public transport in the middle of a protest guess which one I would choose?

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/07/2023 00:17

They've given me my best TV moment so far this year: GBN "man of the people" Nigel Farage spluttering with indignance about them targeting rich people.
😂😂😂

AIBot · 19/07/2023 00:30

What would security staff at major events screen for? If the next batch of protesters interrupt the golf by doing the can-can across the 18th hole in orange pants and matching nipple tassels, how will they be prevented? In your world, will all attendees have to submit to an underwear check? 😂😂😂

In seriousness, items used for violence and intimidation - knives, guns, nail bombs, would be detected and removed along with the people who brought them, and rightly so….

LlynTegid · 18/07/2023 21:07

I don't think they are, the analogy with streakers in the 70s is a good one.

They are targeting places for publicity where most of the people have gone there by public transport.

But streakers we're entertaining

But streakers we're entertaining

I agree. I still haven't got this image out of my mind even after all these years. Can never remember the place or reason. But look at how many police, stewards etc are around him. Wouldn't happen now.

Crazy that people think these so called 'security's breaches' are more scary than the worlds current heat wave

Figmentofmyimagination · 19/07/2023 15:24

I heard that at one event they threw jigsaw pieces bought from the gift shop. Not much you can do to stop that. Terrifying for the contestants/performers though, as they will be in peak concentration mode and will have no idea what is being thrown at them.

Under cover infiltration is one answer. But we all know where that got us…

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 19/07/2023 15:24

How do they get to their targets?

By car? Bus?Planes?

Papernotplastic · 19/07/2023 15:25

I don’t understand why they aren’t immediately arrested and removed.

VampireHouse · 19/07/2023 15:33

There’s lots of videos on tiktok of them letting emergency services through. I’ve also been walking past when they’ve done this. I saw a video of a very polite man asking the protestors to let him through as his wife was in the car in labour, they said ‘of course’ and moved.

It’s the thugs that are punching, kicking and dragging the protestors that are frightening.

thebellagio · 19/07/2023 15:39

I'm convinced that they must have infiltrated security teams and thats' how they are managing to get through,

To get on the court at Wimbledon twice in a matter of hours, and also to get physically on the stage at the last night of the proms takes some form or organisation.

The security is lax. Because who's to say that the next protestor is a JSO supporter?

After Monica Seles, there should be absolutely zero way for any member of the public to get on court during a match.

But I do find it interesting that they are targeting very "genteel" events; the proms, the tennis, cricket, the proms - I can guarantee they wouldn't get the same response if they tried it at UFC or something like that.

I don't get what their actual aim is. Just stop oil? And do what? It's not something that can be immediately turned off.

For the main, I don't think anybody would disagree with their cause. Which is why to me, their protests are just pointless

What if they are stuck at the back of non moving traffic??

Can't exactly 'get through' then can they??
