To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

Notbotheredanymore, it was you who mentioned 'thousands of londoners', your words, you're now arguing with yourself

Tonighton · 20/07/2023 07:19

Are they doing anything useful though?
inventing eco fuels
working free construction to provide insulation for ppl who cannot afford it?
taking care of public spaces greenery?
inventing ways to recycle?
how about staging a performance showing what to do to warm my house in the winter without oil?
to build absolutely anything from tyres to food containers?
anyone?
ANYTHING?

they seem to a useless and annoying bunch.

ALL transport is oil based due to the need for lubricants. Even a bicycle. How else do they oil their chains and gears? What us white grease made from that is used on pedals, seat posts handle bars if not oil?

All our wind turbines generating electricity depend on millions of barrels of oil to keep spinning.

I think it was whale oil (animal base oil or fat) in the past - perhaps we could switch back to that.

sounds like a joke. We are already depleting sea life for food…

We do use some bio-lubricants the #1 issue with them is that they freeze at 11C, are expensive to make (highly processed), and too much use disrupts the food chain.

OneTC · 20/07/2023 09:47

BillaBongGirl · 19/07/2023 18:53

OMG. No. That science does NOT say “just stop oil”.

We need oil to make fertiliser, so we can grow those crops you are so worried about.

We need oil to manufacture lubricants for the electric tractors and lorries to both harvest and transport the crops, and for the factories that package and preserve these crops into foods for consumption.

In fact, the fire fighters need oil to keep their fire engines and helicopters transporting smoke jumpers working, they also need oil to make the fire proof clothing, shelters and face masks.

JSO are a bunch of looney toons. They have been brainwashed into thinking all oil is used as fuel that is burned, and is the only thing creating CO2 emissions.

You could at least look up what their aims are

OneTC · 20/07/2023 09:47

I did look up their aim. They only have 1 aim. The rest is anti-Semitic appropriation of the Holocaust by using Nazi analogies and repeatedly accusing anyone who doesn’t agree with them of genocide.

OneTC · 20/07/2023 10:24

Yeah I'm not a fan of their rhetoric, methods or the group in general but they clearly say they want to stop NEW fossil fuel exploration. Ultimately they want an end to all polluting fossil fuels but that in itself is a pretty reasonable aim. They are not saying Just Stop Oil now and characterising this as people suddenly not being able to use any machinery is hyperbolic and disingenuous

If their aims still need looking up then clearly them making a few headlines isn't the great success that a PP claimed it is.

Wilduncharterd, isn't a narcissist someone who puts their needs first? Something plenty of car drivers do

No. It's someone who sees others as disposable and cares only about themselves.
How can you say car drivers are as bad?such a generic statement

I think thats the point. It's not clear what they're saying.

The point is it is clear if you would listen

Even the BBC main news have said what the group is demanding

Of course a load of bots and boys on the internet will try and muddy the waters and cause confusion but we should all make effects to understand the internet and how it works and it's weaknesses as well as its strengths

It's not working though, is it? Does anyone know anyone IRL who think they're doig a great job? I dont.

If anyone could tell me the difference between them and a terrorist I'd be interested to learn.

And what is their current plan for when the current oil runs out...

Option 1 is everybody live a pre-industrial lifestyle.
Which in Europe was wood burning then coal burning then oil burning plus hard physical labor by man or farm animal breeds (most of which dont exist anymore)

Sell me the solution not the "unfixable" problem.

A group of them have been kettled by another group and are surrounding them, very amusing! The police need to get a grip as one of these idiots is going to be killed soon

Best thing I've seen!

Lasttraintolondon · 20/07/2023 14:06

My kids asked me about this group. I had to say, I don't know whether what they are doing is a good or bad thing. I really can't say.

I do know that the alarm on climate change was raised in the 1980s and things are getting worse, not better. I do know the planet had the hottest average day ever a couple of weeks ago. I do know the daily mail ran a story calling them 'eco loomies' right next to the story about the planet heating up. I do know that peaceful protest has so far achieved very little.

So no, I don't know if messing about and stopping roads or sporting events is a good idea. But I do know we're doing next to nothing as we destroy the environment we depend on. Any better plans out there?

But that's the thing.

Excusing bad behaviour with other behaviour has never worked.

It's perfectly fine we blocked this ambulance because youre destroying the planet.

Brilliant. Now what?

As a PP said, how are they recording any outcomes?

They are saying just stop oil now. You need the new licenses in order to get oil for EXISTING NEEDS. Needs that are being phased out. Needs that are not by any means increasing by the approval of new licenses.

They are the disingenuous ones.

Bio-lubricants are in fact dependent on oil in the sense that they are plant based and I order to grow the crops to create the plants you need oil for the fertiliser they use and all the machinery involved in ploughing, seeding, watering, spraying, harvesting, and processing.

Research is being done to phase out mineral based lubricants and mineral based fertiliser, but we are not there yet. Until we get further along, we need to maintain a slowly decreasing supply of oil and that means new licenses for new wells/drilling as existing sources run dry.

It doesn’t take a genius to understand this but it is apparently beyond the hive kind of JSO activists.

They were not “kettled”- suggest you read up on kettling.
They were surrounded by counter protesters who were holding hands in a circle. They even let individual people come and go.

Does this look like we have done and are doing nothing to reduce the CO2 emissions as JSO is claiming? Look at the real data.

To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?
