Adam Kay and his husband’s babies

Apologies if this has already been covered.

I read in the paper this morning that AK and his DH have welcomed TWO babies into their lives, born to two different surrogates. One child is six months old and their sibling is two months old.

I genuinely cannot wrap my head around this. It seems so very odd to me. Is it a case of ‘one each’ or ‘get the baby stages over asap’?

Obviously nobody but the two parents can answer this but AIBU to find this really quite disturbing?

Surrogacy is people trafficking anyway.

Twiglets1 · 18/06/2023 17:41

Good Luck to them I say. He seems a decent sort.

Weal · 18/06/2023 17:41

I’m Not a fan of surrogacy so don’t token this situation anyway. I agree it is odd to purposefully have 2 small babies at once. Surely one at a time is more manageable and makes sense. Obviously multiple births happen and people manage, but to choose it purposefully doesn’t make much sense to me ?

elliejjtiny · 18/06/2023 17:48

A few people who I follow on Instagram have adopted babies with very small age gaps. Some are a mixture of birth and adopted children and some are all adopted children.

In this case I'm assuming that they were both "ttc" with a surrogate each because they couldn't decide who got to produce the sperm (although you'd think they would do alternate months or mix their sperm together or something). Either that or they wanted to double their chances of conceiving each month.

I'm surprised that an obstetrician would have a child via surrogacy though. Surely he would know more than most people how this would negatively affect the baby.

He doesn't seem a decent sort at all. He's a vile misogynist.

💯

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2023 17:52

There's another thread on this.

Surrogacy is baby trafficking. They bought two. One was a difficult pregnancy.

And that's without considering how reprehensible this man is to begin with and how much he hates women.

Appalling individual who cashes in and exploits the misery of others.

Brokendaughter · 18/06/2023 17:52

They aren't parents.

Parents don't buy babies.

Really? Gosh, you must never have read his books. Misogynist to the extreme.

hattyhathat · 18/06/2023 17:53

I can only imagine they weren't expecting both to conceive at the same time

No he doesn't.

Poor kids

AnyFucker · 18/06/2023 17:55

A “decent sort” would not countenance this

If one is 4 months older than the other, they clearly didn't conceive at the same time.

HowDidThatHappenToYou · 18/06/2023 17:57

He is dreadful. Any NHS clinician can tell that his stories are largely invented. And that he has no respect for his former patients.

MatildaTheCat · 18/06/2023 17:57

I’m no expert on child psychology but I would imagine this could lead to major issues in the family dynamic at some point.

Just feels all shades of wrong.

how about it being none of your business?

Surrogacy is everyones business.

It's baby trafficking.

MessyBunt · 18/06/2023 18:00

I’ve really gone off bum because of this.

He left medicine and wrote books about how it was because he couldn’t cope with the trauma he hat women and babies can go through as part of pregnancy and labour, and now he’s put two women through it solely for his own gain.

Sickening.

Yes, because decent people buy their babies. And write books that poke fun at women in the throes of childbirth. And lie to their wives about being straight when they were actually gay.

DarkDarkNight · 18/06/2023 18:00

I don’t like surrogacy. This sounds like they were hedging their bets with two different surrogates to get a baby and have accidentally ended up with two at roughly the same time. Or they couldn’t decide who got to be biological dad so both wanted to do it.

It’s a selfish thing to do and an unnatural age gap.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2023 18:01

Also if you are going to make money and raise your pr status off the back of selling your life story to the press, you lose the right to say it's no one else's business.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 18/06/2023 18:01

Just so very depressing to know that with all the research on trauma that anybody would commodity a tiny innocent baby. To introduce trauma into a newborn baby's brain and body knowing full well that despite the biological donor info the baby will be completely damaged the moment it is ripped from it's 'growing bag' and taken away from everything they know. Its disgusting and abusive of the most vulnerable human beings there are. Surrogacy is nothing but another way of cheapening women and babies lives to provide accessories for those who can't pursue safe conception. Safe for the woman and the baby.

thevery · 18/06/2023 18:02

Unsurprisingly someone who wrote about women with complete contempt in his book is now happy to exploit women's bodies for his own convenience.
