Adam Kay and his husband’s babies

MatildaTheCat · 18/06/2023 17:38

Apologies if this has already been covered.

I read in the paper this morning that AK and his DH have welcomed TWO babies into their lives, born to two different surrogates. One child is six months old and their sibling is two months old.

I genuinely cannot wrap my head around this. It seems so very odd to me. Is it a case of ‘one each’ or ‘get the baby stages over asap’?

Obviously nobody but the two parents can answer this but AIBU to find this really quite disturbing?

Here we go with the "but it's gallows humour".

It's fucking abusive.

Yeah, I was recently in a pretty dire state in hospital with sepsis, the nurses were cackling away to each other and whilst it was annoying when I was trying to sleep I appreciated they needed to let off some steam during a 12 hour night shift.

This is in another category and not even related to treating patients.

littleripper · 18/06/2023 18:48

I have worked in emergency care and heard extreme "gallows humour" but he wrote books, made a TV and exploited his patients trauma for ever sick joke and penny he could. Grotesque.

There's another thread on this.

Surrogacy is baby trafficking. They bought two. One was a difficult pregnancy.

And that's without considering how reprehensible this man is to begin with and how much he hates women.

Appalling individual who cashes in and exploits the misery of others.

Agree with this.

It's pretty harsh that they made two women go through the horror of everything he has complained about since leaving the NHS.

Complained about and got paid for - the misogyny of the NHS. But it's fine when the end game centres his and his husbands needs over the women.

Patriarchy and misogyny to the bone.

They “made” them? That’s quite the leap…

I’m going to take a huge leap too and assume the women chose to be surrogates and were not raped and imprisoned for nine months…

Adam Kay - Nothing at all lyrics

It’s amazing how pretty you looked on that night,
Your skirt was so short and your top was so tight.
I bought you a drink and we danced on the floor,
We pulled and you came back to mine for some more.
Your skirt ended up on the living room chairs,
And your top and your bra, they came off on the stairs,
And though you looked fit with your clothes on,
Man I was a fool…
Cos you look like sht when you wear nothing at all.
Oh the clothes that you wore looked a million dollars,
But the body beneath, it looked just like Rick Waller’s.
The makeup you wear is a clever disguise
To hide your moustache and the squint in your eyes.
Your cellulite’s dreadful, your covered in zits and
Your stomach’s about as defined as quicksand.
If I’m being honest your tits are unacceptably small,
So you look like sh
t when you wear nothing at all.
When we went back to mine I was up for a shag.
In the bedroom I realised you’re a dumpy old slag.
Your pubes reach your navel and they cover your thighs,
Didn’t know they made arses that size.
When we met on that night, I could swear that I never
Would have guessed you’re a female Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The hair on your chest’s a bit endocrinological,
And you look like sht when you wear nothing at all.
Your teeth are all yellow, with bloody great gaps so
Your face is a picture, by Pablo Picasso.
I can see that your arse has its own gravitational pull,
And you look like sh
t when you wear nothing at all.

Yep and he does an on stage sob story about how it was a birth going wrong that traumatised him and was key to him leaving medicine.

He was quite happy to risk a woman's life to get her baby though wasn't he?

Horrible turd of a man.

ArabeIIaScott · 18/06/2023 18:49

There's another song of his about babies with Down's syndrome that I won't post because it's fucking vile and potentially upsetting. He's an absolute horror.

Yes. Wildly. But some people have nothing better to do in life than be outraged, makes them feel morally superior ☺️

You do know you can be disapproving without being outraged, right?

In real life, 100%. But that hasn’t been my Mumsnet experience 😆

SharonEllis · 18/06/2023 18:51

Lcb123 · 18/06/2023 17:58

how about it being none of your business?

It's everyone's business because surrogacy has to be regulated for the protection of surrogate women (usually low income & often poorly educated) & the babies. To normalise buying babies & using women as incubators affects us all.

SouthernFashionista · 18/06/2023 18:52

Salvadoral · 18/06/2023 17:51

💯

Totally agree. Babies are now a commodity to be bought and sold. It’s grim.

Quite.

If anything it makes him much worse than other celebrity traffickers.

He doesn't seem a decent sort at all. He's a vile misogynist.

I'm glad you raised this. He has said some terrible things on Twitter.

How in the name of hell is this man a celebrity after things like this? I'm also confused because he's gay, so why would he be bringing a woman home?

Is it worse than egg/sperm donation or On a par in your opinion?

Is everyone to be judged on their behaviour in their late teens, early 20s, which is when those songs were written.

Adam gets a lot of flack for it and yes they are offensive, but not JUST to women, they're offensive to medical students, drug companies, the london underground, a wide variety of people and concepts.

They were also written in conjunction with Suman Biswas, who is still performing them and writing new ones and last I looked he's still an anaesthetist as well... but clearly he's innocent of all wrongdoing, poor taste or offensive gags.

It's comedy, it may not be your preferred kind of comedy, but it is comedy, and therefore not necessarily a true reflection of someones current opinions.

This. The songs are almost 20yrs old. And I was an Amateur Transplants fan back then, which happened to be when I was at uni, as were many of my medic student friends and the hundreds (actually thousands, just checked the capacity of the Indigo o2 were I saw them in 2010) of others who also attended the gigs.

They were of their time. They were also really, really funny. One, as I recall, was about peadophelia... so should we ring social services and suggest he might be a peadophile now that he's got kids?!

MissPoldark · 18/06/2023 18:42

I’ve never been into that myself but I can understand how it would really put you off 😆

(sorry for contributing absolutely nothing to the thread, although I didn’t realise some of the vile material he’s created)

😂
Quite the typo!

Bum = him, in case I confused anyone.

Though he really is an arse.

ArabeIIaScott · 18/06/2023 19:05

Leaving aside the misogynistic song lyrics; surrogacy is buying and selling babies. It causes trauma to the baby and potentially endangers the mother.

mycoffeecup · 18/06/2023 18:32

NHS clinician here. His stories sadly ring very true from my experiences in obs and gynae in the early 2000s.

I was reluctantly dragged along to watch his show by friends. Some of the stories he told for comic effect were OTT and ridiculous. I cringed, thinking ‘that never happened’.

bakewellbride · 18/06/2023 19:10

Adam Kay knows all too well the dangers of childbirth yet that didn't stop him putting someone at risk for his own gain. Absolutely disgusting.

autieawesome · 18/06/2023 18:59

Surrogacy? Far worse.

I’m unsure how all of the studies around babies that have been adopted at birth and the trauma that affects them for life can be ignored, just because someone bought the baby doesn’t make it any less traumatised.

Egg/sperm donation - the baby will be grown by and born from its mother, it will get to stay with its mother. Not even remotely comparable in my opinion.

Saying that I would never donate, the thought of a child of ‘mine’ being born to people I wouldn’t actually know are going to treat them right would give me sleepless nights.

TeaKlaxon · 18/06/2023 19:12

JemimaTiggywinkles · 18/06/2023 18:32

FFS can you not describe a child who has been removed from their birth mother as ‘completely damaged’.

Because it is untrue, or because it isn’t polite to say out loud?

Both.

Those of us raising children who never knew their birth mother know that they are not damaged. And that it’s bloody ignorant and offensive to say they are.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/06/2023 19:13

We insist that puppies stay with their mothers for at least 8 weeks - but babies bought by others - nah.

MatildaTheCat · 18/06/2023 19:18

@mycoffeecup I absolutely assure you I do understand dark medic humour. I have the t-shirt. I was referring specifically to the lyrics of the song that was posted upthread.

Same here. I'm from a medical family, and have friends in the 999 services, so I "get" that there is an element of black humour - a coping mechanism almost. But the show was awful, and the songs were beyond the pale.

He's a deeply unpleasant little man.
