Another person killed by one of these dogs

When will people stop getting these dogs?

There have been so many stories of it going horribly wrong. I don’t know what people are thinking! Especially with vulnerable people in the property like kids and elderly people.

There are hundreds of dogs out there! Why choose to get these dogs that have a history of being unstable.

Its awful!

A tragedy. My daughter got mauled by a dog a few years ago and had emergency surgery it was terrifying.
My thoughts with the family

Sapphire387 · 03/06/2023 19:24

I feel so sorry for that poor lady. Tbh, my thoughts are not with the family - if you choose to keep aggressive dogs, and they attack your family members... I can only imagine how that must feel, but frankly, why keep such a dog in the first place? Awful.

Schooldinners1 · 03/06/2023 19:39

Oh I know it’s just shocking isn’t it. What are these people thinking!

I have seen a neighbour with one of these HUGE XL Bully things in a house with a little 2 year old girl.

If that dog flipped with just the mum and girl at home nothing could stop it.

It’s enormous and pure muscle with a head like a watermelon.

Agreed … people do seem to be recognising that it is partly breed.

TomatoSandwiches · 03/06/2023 19:47

Article says it was hardly walked so I'm sure that was a contributing factor alongside it being possibly crowded or at least a busy house, still I agree in the same situation you're unlikely to die if it was a spaniel instead.

Chunkypineapple · 03/06/2023 19:49

Not unreasonable. Too many dog attacks and too many dogs fullstop if you ask me.

These kind of animals need 2 hours of exercise every day in order to exhaust them and some form of mental stimulation.

We can’t believe everything the neighbour says but keeping a big dog to live outside is going to cause the dog a lot of stress and make them feel like they aren’t part of your “pack”

So upsetting for all concerned. I don’t know why people get dogs that clearly aren’t suitable for their lifestyle.

Round here it’s disgusting. Big huge steaming shits on the pavement you have to dodge because of irresponsible dog owners.

If it is a banned breed, they will have acquired him through some really dodgy means from really dodgy people. They probably had no idea what it's history was.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 03/06/2023 20:01

So it was a dog banned under DDA. Means it was either APBT, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasilero or a Japanese Tosa.

Owner reported to have said it was one of only 6 in the country, so that rules out APBT.

What kind of idiots would import an illegal dog and keep it in a garden in suburban Britain. All of the DDA banned breeds are working dogs with insane drive. In the right environment each breed is good, but in a garden, in the West Midlands, nope. Poor Granny didn't stand a chance.

We saw the same tied to the pram of a very new baby on the prom the other day while mum and dad were eating ice creams. Gave my (adult) daughter and I shivers. Huge, ugly great thing, waist height and musculature like I’ve never seen on an animal. It turned its head and stared right at us, horrible pink looking eyes.

Just why do people take such terrible risks? That poor little mite wouldn’t stand a chance.

The blame lies fully with the owners. We need strict penalties for anyone who does this, whether the dog attacks someone or not. Same with the people who either buy or sell dogs online. There is no excuse for ignorance on this subject.

Jinglybangly · 03/06/2023 20:09

I would never own a dog I wasn't stronger than when it was fully grown. Why bring something into your home that you couldn't fight off.

Poor woman.

flyingtherag · 03/06/2023 20:22

Also the heat won’t help.

so awful. I’m so frightened of these dogs. I passed one on my run recently. Slowed right down and averted my eyes but I was terrified. Was off lead.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 03/06/2023 20:23

They all need rounding up and putting down.

Dymaxion · 03/06/2023 20:36

I feel the same way, I love dogs of all shapes and sizes, but would never own something I couldn't subdue, if I needed to.

SunnyEgg · 03/06/2023 20:38

That is horrendous

These stories come up often but nothing changes

crabbyoldappletree · 03/06/2023 20:39

I watched a ?15\16 yr old being dragged around by a bully in our local town today. The dog was straining in its harness and the lad was being dragged into every area the bully had a mind to go....it's an accident waiting to happen, king idiots.
These dogs do not belong in crowded busy places, they don't belong in towns or cities, they belong in properly rural locations with decent walks away from others, and under full control.
I don't care what people say, these dogs are not family 'pets' they are working breeds that need proper stimulation and exercise.

Wildflowersinthemeadow · 03/06/2023 20:41

They belong nowhere. They aren’t working breeds, they are fighting breeds.

FloofCloud · 03/06/2023 20:42

Bloody useless and culpable owners, they need to be sent To prison for manslaughter

Chispazo · 03/06/2023 20:42

Why do people want these dogs???

Yes. I recently saw a skinny man being dragged down the road by one of these. He looked like a kite!

Status. Protection. Because they're "cute" and "wouldn't hurt a fly".

There's some gubbins on our residents group currently posted by the owner of an XL Bully saying how his dog is really soft and friendly and it hurts their feelings when people cross the road to avoid them Hmm

LancashireSquirrel · 03/06/2023 20:59

We recently have had one of these massive dogs move across from us. I've never seen anything like it. I used to let the DC play in the front garden while I would unpack the shopping etc or water the plants, I certainly won't be any more.

Parsley1234 · 03/06/2023 21:05

I was working at Dog Fest last weekend it was full of XL bullies all intact with completely brain dead owners with no control whatsoever plus some had cropped ears and tails both illegal in the country. It’s an absolute nightmare they are horrible dogs with no redeeming features atall
