To think friend was embarrassed by what I wore?

I met up with friends for lunch and drinks. They were dressed casually, one was in a long silk kind skirt with trainers and the other two were in jeans.

I had on a black strap dress with a slit and heels, I saw friends eyes widen when I walked in and it made me worry I was overdressed compared to them.

You’re very snippy op. Your friends probably didn’t want to mention your dress in case you went all prickly about it! 🦔

Try to lighten up a bit and laugh about things. Did you make a social faux pas? Maybe. I’ve made loads in my time and it’s always best to laugh it off.

Snippy? Goodness. It’s ridiculous that an OP on aibu just has to smile and nod to whatever is said or they are snippy, angry, “no wonder no one likes you” etc

You don’t know me or my friends so your comments on how we are as people is redundant. So take that comment and put it under a microscope and tell me more about my terrible disposition.

@bartygk can you post a picture of the dress, black with straps and a slit covers a wide range

SmileyClare · 14/05/2023 15:29

I was referring to your comment “get a life” aimed at a poster who joked about you being pedantic. It seemed a bit prickly. But whatever, I’m bowing out.

Look you clearly don’t want to engage in any sort of reasoned discussion about your outfit or answer anyones polite questions. I’m not sure what you wanted posters to say, we’re all coming up with theories why you felt a bit uncomfortable, worried and why your friends didn’t mention the disparity in your outfits.

They were probably just surprised you were so dressed up for lunch. I live in London & I’ve never worn heels on a night out let alone to lunch. I don’t know anyone who wears heels anymore tbh

I thought that up until about 6 months ago when I started seeing women wearing heels again. They are def having a moment

Goodbye then

The irony

I am so very confused by why you wanted to achieve by starting this thread, OP...

HathorsFigTree · 14/05/2023 15:45

I’d love to know if you are a man or a woman OP. It would clarify your motivations.

CheshireCat1 · 14/05/2023 15:46

I wouldn’t worry about it, if your friends did feel embarrassed that’s their problem not yours. When I’m going out with friends we normally discuss what we’re wearing beforehand.
If it’ll make you feel more comfortable the next time you’re going out ask your mates what type of clothes they’re wearing.
Just draw a line under it as in the great scheme of things it doesn’t really matter.

OP, we've asked you questions for clarity, to answer your OP better. You have ignored people asking questions, why won't you answer us?

Yeah, I don't get it. They're not responding to anyone's questions.

Redlarge · 14/05/2023 15:59

Id rather be overdressed than under and i dont care what people think.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 14/05/2023 16:46

LolaSmiles · 14/05/2023 17:22

You could stick a pair of flats in your handbag if you’re deliberating over heels and not sure of the exact plans or venue
I've definitely done this before. Now I don't bother with heels.

These days I like an outfit that can go from groomed and casual to slightly more dressy with a quick change of accessories and lipstick, or have a different jacket in the car.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 14/05/2023 10:30

If it was a strappy black dress with slit and heels along these lines then yes it was inappropriate for a lunchtime. It really does depend exactly what your dress was like.

You wore that to lunch? I love your style. Hahahaha!

CabbagePatchDole · 14/05/2023 19:07

Perhaps a more relevant question is did you feel embarrassed by what you wore?

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 14/05/2023 22:07

We're not getting a while lot of info from the OP here are we??

Guavafish1 · 14/05/2023 22:16

They are jealous

WunWun · 14/05/2023 23:26

bartygk · 14/05/2023 13:42

What would be classed as stylish shoes?

That's hardly something I can list. Maybe just Google daytime fashion?

It wouldn't be heels for me though, certainly not in a dress meant for a club.

Creepyrosemary · 15/05/2023 06:10

I'm an overdresser because wearing stuff like that makes me feel happy. Just own it when you do.

Of a bot?

Well, this has been nice 😆 Still, I suppose it’s only fair for the odd AIBU OP to be the snarky one, instead of the people on the thread.

CabbagePatchDole · 14/05/2023 19:07

If it’s a genuine poster then I’d say very much yes. They’re incredibly defensive. And their outfit was a bit bananas for a day event. But also, feels a bit ChatGPT.

CheezePleeze · 15/05/2023 09:37

Guavafish1 · 14/05/2023 22:16

They are jealous

Could you elaborate on this please?

I'm just wondering how you came to this conclusion as for me, there doesn't seem to be any indication?

Lindjam · 15/05/2023 11:03

I don’t think it’s a bot. The SPAG isn’t good enough
