Disclaimer: I’m not British and have no skin in the monarchy game, but I do think the ears are a bit much.

To think the Mumsnet coronation logo is quite mean?

I'm all for open discussions of things done wrong or improvements that need to be made in regards to someone's actions, but insults regarding appearance show an intelligence and with at the same level of the likes of Trump.

Only a MNer would insult someone else, in an attempt to demonstrate why insulting people is terribly wrong! Amazing!

I know. You don't like Trump, so insulting him is fair game.
Or maybe insults are bad in general?

Mumsanetta · 06/05/2023 12:44

@Nextlevelnonsense hard to know now, though. Are insults about physical appearance if the person is rich and powerful ok but not insults about intelligence?

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:41

MNHQ error of judgement was under estimating how vociferous the Royalists would be on MN.

You don't have to be a Royalist to be a nice person.

Indeed.
Just human decency.

I see MN made a poor attempt to defend themselves on another thread, referencing how making fun of the rich is a good thing.

You might all remember that the next time you’re wrapped on the knuckles for posting about Eddie Izzard or Meghan Markle or even Justine Roberts.

Exactly. Pathetic response. It's ok because he's rich.

I’m quite stunned, it’s ok for mumsnet to declare themselves anti monarchist. But deciding and announcing it’s ok to take the piss out the monarchy’s personal appearance as they are anti monarchist is really out of line.

Maireas · 06/05/2023 14:00

I agree, @Gymtastic , we've had monarchists, republicans and everyone in between complaining. It's not good from MN.

Oftenaddled · 06/05/2023 14:09

Has MN declared official anti-monarchist position?

I mean their call. I'm a republican. They're a business. I presumed they'd take a fairly mainstream / consensus / detached approach to politics.

I hope Justine doesn't show up on a chat show calling us all monarchists for objecting to this.

They may as well announce political alignment while they’re at it although going by web chats and moderation I can guess

ArcaneWireless · 06/05/2023 14:12

My colleague, who has spent the morning ripping me for wanting to be back in time to watch the Coronation, is as against the Monarchy as they come.

Even he thought it was a shit thing to do.

Our only disagreement on this particular issue was his use of shit. I went with cunty.

Disappointing. That and the sorry/not sorry.

AdaBrady · 06/05/2023 14:18

I think the thing really bothering me about this is the hypocrisy. And the hypocritical handling of the hypocrisy.

There’s another horrible thread going on at the moment about another of Charles’ physical attributes. Typically, this would be deleted if posted about anybody as not in the spirit of the site, but it remains, I assume because of the backlash HQ have received over the logo and their subsequent “we’re sorry you’re offended but it’s a-ok to take the piss out of the rich” stance.

I pretty clearly explained that I am okay with insults regarding someone's behaviour. I personally don't like the comments he has made about women (amongst other things).

You will notice, I didn't insult his appearance... Which is my entire point.

GodSaveTheClean · 06/05/2023 20:26

It was childish and a dated joke that was never very funny. Bad show MN

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 06/05/2023 21:56

As Justine is so anti royal, why did she accept the CBE?

Ludlow2 · 06/05/2023 22:05

Have they taken it down yet?

Tipapi · 09/05/2023 14:53

Well I for one welcome this clarification. I left Mumsnet a while ago due to confusing and inconsistent things.

I now know that I can create a thread on Justine Roberts CBE and a feature on her face I find unfortunate. After all she's regularly made power lists for most influential people and has made millions from a message board.

Kolakalia · 09/05/2023 15:48

Wow, I hadn't seen that but that's really cruel and childish.

I bloody can't stand the monarchy or anybody in it, but things like this promote mocking people's appearance and physical characteristics.

It reminds me of people fat-shaming Trump for example, and the response to it: Trump will never see this. But your fat friends will, and now they know exactly what you think of them.

Charles will never see this, and no doubt his wealth and privilege will shield him from ever giving a fuck about this sort of thing. But people who have ears that stick out that have been made fun of their entire lives will see this.

slowquickstep · 09/05/2023 16:07

Has Justine handed her gong back ?
