Disclaimer: I’m not British and have no skin in the monarchy game, but I do think the ears are a bit much.

To think the Mumsnet coronation logo is quite mean?
OP posts:
Lostinalibrary · 06/05/2023 09:18

It’s mean. However MN has become a parody of itself now. We are a long way past the humour of celebrity juice and spitting image. Unless of course you’re attacking someone from left leaning views. That’s ok.

Shodan · 06/05/2023 09:18

Yes it's a tacky, tasteless thing to have done.

I was teased for two things as a child- 1) blushing (still occasionally get teased for that) and 2) having ears "like a taxi with its doors wide open".

How horrible of Mumsnet to be poking fun like a bunch of schoolchildren.

FangsForTheMemory · 06/05/2023 09:17

I didn’t say it was an opinion of him. Don’t project you on thoughts on to me.

Of course you shared an opinion. In your opinion Charles wouldn't give a flying fuck. Your opinion. Mine is: it doesn't matter what his personal opinion is. In my opinion the logo is stupid.
All opinions valid, no-one projecting anything.

FangsForTheMemory · 06/05/2023 09:20

My goodness, I’ve never seen so many ‘I’m not a monarchist buts . . .’ in my life.

Get a grip. The whole coronation circus is costing the country millions and it’s what Charles wanted. Don’t tell me about protocol. He wanted this.

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 09:21

RosettaTheGardenFairy · 06/05/2023 09:13

But... it's not meant to be a cuntish bullying leaning site

There’s not much between the two these days

IAmNotOkay · 06/05/2023 09:21

@MNHQ why is it still there?

viques · 06/05/2023 09:21

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 01:41

I guess you all want something more servile instead?

A crown would have been enough. We all know what is happening and who is being crowned, it doesn’t need to be a nasty playground jibe at someone’s physical appearance. If he was very overweight there wouldn’t have been a picture of a fat belly, if he had acne there wouldn’t have been spots, but a man with big ears? Hey we can allenjoy laughing at that, a bit of community cohesion in action.

Of course I didn’t but you’re welcome to pretend I did. Jog on.

Ashleys63 · 06/05/2023 09:22

It's really bad taste. I wonder would they exaggerate the features of an African world leader for example, No they wouldn't. and i agree it's body shaming.

Catsmere · 06/05/2023 09:22

RegainingTheWill2023 · 06/05/2023 08:40

Monarchists might find no royal logo disrespectful on coronation day but the rest of us wouldn't have given a shiny shit.
MN chose not to ignore the Coronation but instead chose to mock a man's ears ....

I’m a (tepid) monarchist and wouldn’t have expected to see any logo … and yes, this effort is contemptible.

Maireas · 06/05/2023 09:22

@viques - quite right

BodyKeepingScore · 06/05/2023 09:23

I actively dislike the monarchy - I still think it's abhorrent to use someone's appearance to make them the butt of the joke. The graphic is childish and sends the wrong message - I don't know how it was approved. There isn't a single other "celebrity" that or would be acceptable to mock in that way.

PatAndMat · 06/05/2023 09:24

I’ve reported MNHQ twice to themselves🤣
once last night and again this morning
and yet nothing
Im shocked

HaroldeVwilliam · 06/05/2023 09:24

@SunnyEgg well..

Then you mock him for what he has said and done, because those were his choice - perfectly valid. Not an aspect of his appearance he can’t change and didn’t choose. See the difference?

I've reported twice. Nothing.

ILoveCakeLikeTheToriesLoveRippingTaxPayersOff · 06/05/2023 09:26

It's tasteless and tacky, poking fun at one's appearance. I take it MNHQ are Harry & Meghan fans? Grin

PatAndMat · 06/05/2023 09:26

Maireas · 06/05/2023 09:25

There’s even another thread complaining about it.
I don’t understand MNHQ hate

Gtsr443 · 06/05/2023 09:28

Finding the logo offensive only makes sense if you think KC's ears look bad; you all must share a prejudice that his ears aren't nice.

Yes it's odd isn't it?
I love big ear'oles. They run in our family and my dad's are like taxi doors.
I don't see big ears = bad. And shame on anyone who does.
Martin Clunes' fabulous lugs are arguably the most interesting thing about him.
Russell Tovey, Gary Lineker - splendid ears.
When Charles married Diana the very posh Carlton Ware produced a Charles mug which had a giant ear as the handle.

The only thing I've ever liked about Charles is his love of the absurd particularly The Goons. I figured that anyone who can do a brilliant Neddy Seagoon can't be all bad in spite of the mass slaughter of deer and grouse and tax dodging and bags of Saudi cash.

slowquickstep · 06/05/2023 09:31

Ms Roberts needs to hand back her OBE but of course she won't. Happy to take then mock. shame behaviour.

Mumsbed · 06/05/2023 09:31

HaroldeVwilliam · 06/05/2023 09:10

But... It's a left leaning site.

What has that got to do with anything?? Hmm

My family are all 'left leaning' if you want and we aren't cheap, disrespectful fuckers.

In fact as a 'left leaning' person, I abhor it when people ridicule others for their physical features. Why? Because it's something that e.g. racists, sexists and disablists love to do, represent women, disabled people and people from different ethnicities in reductive, stereotypical and ridiculing ways. It's cheap, unkind and inhumane. I don't think Charles will be fussed but the logo reinforces the idea that it's ok to polemically represent people you disagree with by drawing attention to and ridiculing physical features that don't comply with the 'norm'.

Maybe because people experiencing bullying due to it or other difference don’t look on it fondly

Great if you do but it’s not that hard to imagine dc or parents of dc who hear mockery won’t feel the same

If people had only heard positive things then maybe you’d have a point

NotBadConsidering · 06/05/2023 09:33

If this was Family Fortunes, and the question was:

”We surveyed 100 people, and asked them ‘name something Charles is famous for being teased about.’”

And the answer would be

90% ears
5% his affair
5% talking to plants.

The idea that people on this thread are only upset by the logo because of deep-seated prejudice towards people with noticeable ears is laughable.

IrregularChoiceFan · 06/05/2023 09:34

I think it's totally bizarre tbh. I just showed my partner and his face (wish I had a photo) explained my feelings perfectly 🤣

Iheartherain · 06/05/2023 09:37

<snort>

MN is mostly about bullying. If you can’t see that, maybe spectacles on the crown would be more fitting.

Everyone getting annoyed about ears on a crown hasn’t really been upset when a mother has been torn apart for daring to have poor SPAG or claim benefits or not LTB the second MN barks that they should.
