To think that the 'trans issue' isn't a big deal

angiec89 · 16/04/2023 22:03

It just blows my mind how many people on here are so hung up over trans women. They're such a small percentage of the population. I have never seen an obviously trans woman in a women's toilet (not that it would particularly bother me if I did), in fact I very rarely see trans women out and about ever.
I'd be happy to listen to explanations but I really don't understand the issue. Surely there are thousands of more pressing issues regarding women's rights and safety currently than the 0.27% of the population (a USA statistic but I assume it's accurate enough) that are trans women. And even then it would be a minuscule proportion of those that are ill-intentioned towards women. It just seems like a big fuss about something so obscure when there are huge issues that deserve more attention.

X-posted with literal, there.

YANBU, heating your house and feeding your family, and proper investment in rape crisis centres all matters much more than what loos trans women use!!

FinnysTail · 16/04/2023 23:07

FFS! Women are women. Transwomen are men. There’s no need to prefix the word “women” with CIS.

We all know the difference between a woman and a man in a dress! 🙄

And how do you feel about the running of rape crisis centres, do you think that's going okay?

And what rape crisis centres should they use?! Are you unfamiliar with the experience of 'Sarah', who was denied rape crisis support because she couldn't be in a group with a male of any identity? There was a male group, a mixed group and a women's group, so the transwomen chose the women only group. Sarah asked if there could be a group for biological women only, and was refused. So the transwomen could go to any of three groups, and biological women who had been raped could only go to groups containing males. Toilets are the thin edge of the wedge, can't you see that?

"the uninitiated"?

Yes. People who have not seen through the propaganda which suggests that GC is anti trans and that there's no real harm in pretending some men are women.

Dontbelieveaword · 16/04/2023 23:12

Wow, I'm getting the shit here? Really?
Don't presume which side I'm on and dont talk to me like I'm an infant, thank you very much. Your anger is glowing brightly but directed at the wrong person here.

DojaPhat · 16/04/2023 23:13

The tories have pointed out that women don't have penises which is enough to win them the vote of some women on MN. As the first poster said, it's not possible to support women without knowing what one is. So I can assure you, now that the tories have been able to define a woman you'll never see a complaint from a single-mother using a foodbank while working shifts to keep a roof over her children's heads while she worries about the heating bill. Nor will you ever find a pregnant woman complain about lack of sufficient maternal care at her local hospital. The tories have got women covered so they get my vote. The past decade + of tory rule has demonstrated perfectly how supportive of women the tories are and this pesky 'trans' issue will soon be dealt with so the tories can continue to uplift women.

Is it the actual trans women who experience gender dysphoria and undergo hormones and surgery that bother you? Or is it the pretenders that lie?
Cisgender women have it tough but the mortality rate of trans women is incredibly high, and 5 times the rate of trans men for perspective.

Meet "Katie". I object to "her".

Meet "Barbie". I object to "her" too.
https://www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/courts/2023/03/16/barbie-kardashian-jailed-for-five-and-a-half-years-for-threats-to-kill-mother/

Meet "Karen". Another one I object to.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/oct/11/karen-white-how-manipulative-and-controlling-offender-attacked-again-transgender-prison

These are merely the tip of the iceberg. All were placed in women's prisons purely because they "identified" as women, despite each of them having a history of violence against women and girls.

It is only thanks to women (actual women) kicking off about this situation - on the FWR boards and elsewhere - that governments are finally waking up to this and moving them back into the male estate where they belong.

You may well not care about prisons - after all, few of us will ever see the inside of one. Perhaps you should take time to think about women trying to access rape group counselling. Only a male has now joined (who says that he is a woman though looks exactly like any other man you might pass in the street) who sits in the session grinning inanely. Not even any suggestion that he is a survivor of sexual violence and therefore in need of the service in the first place. But stuff the real women, the real rape victims; what's apparently more important is that we validate this male's 'identity'.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61958346

Perhaps you don't care about rape victims either. Maybe you have an interest in sport. Perhaps you even competed in one while you were in education - in the US sport scholarships are very valuable for students. But tough luck, you've just lost to a male who is just as much a cheat as an East German athlete. Not only that, the male is swaggering around the changing room with "her" meat-and-two-veg on full display.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11731777/Trans-swimmer-Lia-Thomas-dropped-pants-exposed-male-genitalia-womens-locker-room.html

No interest in sport? Perhaps you have a child (this is a parenting forum after all). Your child's father is taking your young daughter out for the day (isn't it good that Easter holiday childcare isn't just falling to you, thank god it's the 21st century now). She's nine years old now, so can't really go into the gents' toilets with him as she might have done a few years ago. He certainly shouldn't accompany her into the Ladies'. But that's no problem, there shouldn't be any dangerous men in the ladies' toilets precisely for the same reason that he's not going in there. Except that some noisy activists have bullied the cowardly council officials into permitting "all women" into the ladies' toilets and "Katie" (see paragraph 1) is waiting behind the door.

Trans woman battered male inmate in Scots jail... and is now in women's prison

Paedophile Katie Dolatowski was serving a sentence for assault alongside male prisoners in Polmont YOI despite identifying as a woman when she beat up a fellow inmate in the canteen

I was just on my TikTok posting for my small business. Suddenly, the feed is full with people who are transitioning/ transitioned/ non binary. I guess because I stop and stare a bit shocked at these young adults the algorithm decided I am interested! But it definitely doesn't feel like a small percentage of ppl minding their own business.

There's one in particular that keeps coming up and it breaks my heart. An eight/ nine year old child (parents live in a big house in Surrey and have blue ticks on SM) is cheered on as a girl. If you dare say he's too young to know people jump on you. Theres a lot of compliments for the child about his external looks, about the make-up, nails, clothes... All would be inappropriate if an actual little girl... So many male followers...

Many are quick to confirm his girl-ness, clearly not realising that just because this kid feels different to (some) boys, likes his sisters' dresses, likes long hair, is now being pushed on a road to chemical castration (puberty blockers). And next - chopping off parts off his body to try and fit in the story all these adults have created for him?
Because his parents jumped on a trend and put him out there so publicly to be pushed and pressured by people for whom being trans is a movement?
This kid will very likely struggle with his mental health, as large proportion of the trans community are - and linked to your mortality fact there - the suis*de rate in the community is more than 50% (sorry no proper source that I can recall).

This is not as small of a deal as I thought a few months ago. This is out there, getting big fast, messing up a lot of children.

It's always worth challenging that sort of bullshit though, because it may open the eyes of those who were just browsing.

Trans identified male prisoner Barbire Kardashian is to be moved from the women's section of Limerick Prison due to staff safety concerns.
Kardashian is deemed very dangerous and requires a number of prison staff to open his cell and accompany him anywhere he goes.

Barbie is the prisoner who tried to rip off his social workers eyelids.

Who was that aimed at? Who is criticising you?

All it looks like to me is that you are asking people not to engage with the OP, who may or may not have 'questionable' reasons for posting; but we are meeting your request by saying thanks, but we DO want to respond, for the reasons that some of us have clearly given.

As I said before, we - the GC side - are not the ones who are afraid of debate, regardless of how basic or weak the arguments laid at our door and the intentions of those posing the questions (who will not be the only ones to see this for as long as it remains online).

Stellanotbud · 16/04/2023 23:28

Oh piss off. I don't want men in my space. I'm delighted the tide is turning. They can feck off out of women's spaces. The trans have two options use the bogs of their biological sex or else start lobbying & protesting for third sex spaces for themselves & the penises they insist on not mutilating.

daughtersanathlete · 16/04/2023 23:31

The thing is. I'm not even particularly gender critical. I would call a trans person by their preferred pronouns and name and I don't particularly have an issue with a trans person sharing toilet space with me.

Where the line is for me is in the fact that my daughter will be put in physical danger and will be unable to represent her country as she has done to date and purely on the grounds of her sex unless there's new rules applied. She also doesn't need to see male genitalia when changing. Thank goodness that change is starting to happen.

Lulabelleblue · 16/04/2023 23:44

I think there is a place for discussing how trans rights will impact on women's rights, without accusing every trans person of being a pervert with a hidden agenda.

I'm not sure what the solutions are in terms of what the laws should be, but I think it's convenient to be transphobic if you can't figure out a solution that works for everyone.
