Apologies if there’s been another thread on this but I couldn’t see one! A police horse has been attacked an injured by an off-lead dog in London. No prizes for guessing the breed 🙄.

AIBU to think if the dog is capable of attacking a horse (I think we can assume unprovoked) then there is a serious risk of fatal consequences to a human from this dog and therefore it needs to be put down?

Dog seized after attack on police horse in east London

Police told owners ‘Keep dogs on a lead if you can’t recall them or get them under control’

I was just reading this and was horrified. Yes the dog should be destroyed and the owner prosecuted for having an out of control dog.

lipstickwoman · 23/03/2023 17:17

Absolutely it should be destroyed and the owner jailed

Supernova23 · 23/03/2023 17:20

The owner should be punished for having a dog that is out of control - massive fine, banned from owning dogs, community service. Prison seems extreme.

Should the dog be destroyed because its arsehat owner hasn’t trained it or kept it on a lead? No. Should be on a lead and muzzled at all times when out though. I have prey driven dogs, but none would harm a horse like that. That dog was trying to kill.

I do think that XL Bully’s/American Bully’s need to be put on the dangerous dogs list and banned/heavily restricted. None of the planks that own them have a clue about how to train or handle one.

WeWereInParis · 23/03/2023 17:20

And unsurprisingly the owner has described the dog as "so friendly"

Aren't they bloody always.

DizzyLizzyKizzy · 23/03/2023 17:20

Oh god, that's very distressing!

I think it'll be put down .

timeforchampagne · 23/03/2023 17:21

what an idiot!! Reading his response

Absolutely should never of happen but if this that hadn’t been a police horse, that’s trained to be calm I hate to think the carnage this could have coursed and how many people would have been injured

thank goodness it didn’t attack the people who caught hold of it

i despair at how many people have dogs and don’t bother to train or seemingly care about their animals

OhmygodDont · 23/03/2023 17:22

But coco is a lovely doggie woggie and that big bad horsey was intimidating it

No yeah the dog should be taken away and there idiot owner banned from owning dogs.

timeforchampagne · 23/03/2023 17:23

She was intimidated by the horse. She felt threatened.

absolute joke of a response from the owner

MisgenderedSwan · 23/03/2023 17:23

I saw this earlier, the dog was biting at the horse's legs. The rider did very well to stay seated. It is not normal for a dog to do that. I think that dog should be destroyed, it is an accident or serious attack waiting to happen.

Cherrysoup · 23/03/2023 17:26

Omg, it reminds me of that idiot that punched the police horse some years back. The dog definitely needs destroying, imo. Saying that, my horse used to try to kill any dog that went near him. 😳

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2023 17:27

Bloody hell! That’s awful. I have a dog that’s scared of horses. (We were walking round the lanes when a rider cantered at her!) She responds by hiding behind me. Not bloody biting a horse. Ridiculous excuse.
This is clearly an out of control dog. Lucky the rider wasn’t killed in a fall. Poor horse.

LlynTegid · 23/03/2023 17:30

Certain breeds (or cross-breeds) of dog should be banned, and for all others, the law should say that harm caused by a dog treated as if the owner caused the injury themselves. Your dog puts someone in hospital, it is an assault and grevious bodily harm as a minimum, for example.

Leftbutcameback · 23/03/2023 17:31

I’m not sure I’ve ever read such complete crap (from the owner) - reciprocating energy? What on earth is that all about. He’s clearly a complete imbecile. Hope he gets charged, banned, and fined. And that Urbane recovers well 😢

hattie43 · 23/03/2023 17:32

Absolutely the worst kind of brain dead owner . The horse is a large animal imagine if that dogs target was a small dog or child .

Leftbutcameback · 23/03/2023 17:32

Also very brave of the passer-by to help - I hope they aren’t injured.

hmrcwoes · 23/03/2023 17:33

I don't think the dog should be destroyed. Think that's an extreme reaction. It should be on a lead yes but not killed

What about when the dog is at home? It just seems to me the risk of this dog attacking a person is pretty high and therefore putting it down is the only real solution.

I agree. Too many idiots who have no regard for the potential damage these dogs can do and have no interest in training or appropriately controlling them. His attitude is fucking shocking as well, clearly doesn’t give two shits!

He criticised the have-a-go-hero passer-by who stepped in to help, using a long stick to keep the dog at bay.

“The guy was rude,” said Hakan who has had Coco for around a year.

“I was so angry at the time. He said I didn’t do nothing. I tried.

“I reciprocate energy. If you’re rude to me I will be rude back to you.

What a fucking tool of a human being

Nap1983 · 23/03/2023 17:37

I have had similar happen to me while out riding.. a young puppy (small spaniel) climbed up my horses tail. The owners were mortified and had an older well behaved dog with them. Luckily the pup was only playing but could have been a very different situation. I agree that restrictions should be applied to these Bully Breeds. My only other thought on this is that it’s getting attention as it was a police horse. I’ve made numerous complaints to the police about dog walkers and out of control dogs around where we ride and nothing is ever done.. infact not even Usually a response. I am a dog owner and lover aswell incase I sound anti dog

Leftbutcameback · 23/03/2023 17:37

I’m sure you can get longer sentences for attacks on working animals - no idea if this would apply in this case but I think it does for assistance dogs.

LonelyInTheOcean · 23/03/2023 17:39

It’s disgusting. I am so fed up of these idiots that own this particular breed.
One walked passed me off-lead the other day and the arrogance and smirking from the owner was unbelievable. It’s almost like he wanted some sort of reaction.
The person with the dog in this case with the horse should be banned from keeping dogs.
I love your username @YaWeeFurryBastard OP

BCfan · 23/03/2023 17:39

I have horses and dogs.

You can't assume that a dog that would attack a horse would attack people, completely different in the eyes of the dog - horses are, and behave as, prey animals.

I've unfortunately had several incidents with poorly controlled dogs when riding my horse(s) out and about. Without exception it's the gormless middle class morons who have dogs like cockerpoos, huskies etc rather than the people who have XL bullys.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully this might make some dog owners think twice and put their dogs on a lead around horses.
