Apologies if there’s been another thread on this but I couldn’t see one! A police horse has been attacked an injured by an off-lead dog in London. No prizes for guessing the breed 🙄.

AIBU to think if the dog is capable of attacking a horse (I think we can assume unprovoked) then there is a serious risk of fatal consequences to a human from this dog and therefore it needs to be put down?

Dog seized after attack on police horse in east London

Police told owners ‘Keep dogs on a lead if you can’t recall them or get them under control’

I don't know about the dug but I reckon the owner would be no great loss. Hard to believe this was the sperm wot won the race.

🔫🔫🔫

Just think how crap the rest of them must have been.

CrotchetyQuaver · 23/03/2023 19:18

Jesus that's horrendous, the poor horse.
I'd advocate destruction of the dog in a case like this. Unfortunately it's likely to attack again now it's done this and that's a completely unacceptable prospect. It might be a human next time. As for punishment for the owner, that would depend on what he had to say, but early impressions aren't good...

BaroldFromEastenders · 23/03/2023 19:20

I’m not a dog hater I have two of my own but I wouldn’t care if XL bullies were banned and seized. There’s no reason for the average Joe to have a dog that powerful and they shouldn’t be walking the streets. A pitbull by another name

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 23/03/2023 19:23

My ds had a very, lucky escape with an XL bully, he's Autistic so the more the thing leapt up at him the more he flapped and screamed which made it worse. The owner was thick as pigshit and had no business in owning a dog like that, the only way he got it away was by kicking it innthe stomach. As we left we could hear it going for a small dog and its owner, fucking ridiculous people can own such powerful animals without having to prove their ability to take care of it or provide training.

Sadly, I do think the dog should be put down, although to me all the blame lies with the owner.......I will.say tho those horses and their riders were amazing this would have had a far worse outcome if they hadn't had them under such control.

That’s because these “bully” breeds aren’t being taken for walks in the countryside, they’re pounding the pavements where kids play or worse, cooped up in houses and never walked at all.

This is why I drive to woodlands to walk our dog and avoid certain areas. Thankfully (for me and my dog) these dogs are rarely seen enjoying runs in forests. The poor things are walked through their neighbourhood on the same route, day after day.

MrsMitford3 · 23/03/2023 19:34

I am a dog lover but sadly the only thing for that dog is to be put down.

The owner fined/jailed etc

Bully breeds banned. Owners fined. Dogs confiscated.
Paying for a dog license could generate money for dog wardens.

I walk my small dog in a park like place with a path down the middle-not open to traffic but is open to horses. There are single horses, horse and carriages and large groups of horses training.
As soon as I see one I put my dog on the lead. There is a danger to her, the horse, the riders should the horse throw them and if they then bolt to anyone in the cart or in their path.

I feel awful for those poor horses and the riders did so well. As did the members of public who tried to help but the gormless owner surprisingly
did nothing.

And why risk letting that dog attack again?
Next time it could be another dog/child/person who gets attacked.
Not worth the risk.

Soubriquet · 23/03/2023 19:36

You know it’s funny. My dogs would be intimidated by a horse…so I don’t let them off lead where dogs are!

Amazing that

TomHanksIsFuckingAmazing · 23/03/2023 19:36

Those fucking walking weapons need to be banned!

CalpolDependant · 23/03/2023 19:37

Sorry to be off topic but why do we say “destroyed” when a dog has attacked and needs to be put down? Not a dog person myself, and just wondering what the difference in vernacular is about.

smileladiesplease · 23/03/2023 19:38

This is shocking As a massive dog lover I say no dog should be off lead in a public place. No dog. I am sick to death of dogs jumping all over my small on lead dog and jumping up my grandson.
Owners always say 'oh he's friendly!!' Well AND!!! My dog is a scared rescue so sod off!

There are so many secure fields around now for off lead play or go right out into the countryside to let them off lead.

In public on lead

Panpig · 23/03/2023 19:42

That dog should be destroyed absolutely, and the owner prosecuted too. These dog attacks are so prevalent now, its awful. That poor horse, who was just doing his job. I do hope the police update on him with good news

Yogazmum · 23/03/2023 19:46

There are certain types of dogs that have stereotypical owners and this is a prime example. The dog is collateral damage due to under training, bad ownership and cross breeding. I feel incredibly sorry for the actual dog as it’s a product of its owner but I think euthanasia is the most likely outcome.
To be honest, it was lucky it didn’t get its skull caved in by the horse kicking it.

RobertsRadio · 23/03/2023 19:47

After reading the statement from the owner, I'd say both the dog and it's owner should be put down, he sounds a complete moron with no concept of being a responsible dog owner and absolutely no contrition for what his dog has done. Absolute tool.

CottonSock · 23/03/2023 19:48

Awful.
That passerby was so brave to tackle it. Plus the horse could have accidentally really hurt him..needs a bravery away.
Dog owner deserves prison and perhaps never allowing to breed.

RobertsRadio · 23/03/2023 19:49

"Dog owner deserves prison and perhaps never allowing to breed."
Amen to that

WetBandits · 23/03/2023 19:51

What a horrible watch 😭

Poor horse, but what an amazing horse and rider to keep such control despite all that going on! I hope he recovers fully without lasting physical or psychological injury.

And poor dog too, with an idiot owner like that she never stood a chance. If she’s put down then I hope the decision is made quickly so she doesn’t languish in holding kennels, or if she’s rehomed I hope it’s to someone who knows what they’re doing with such a huge, powerful dog.

Toadintheroll · 23/03/2023 19:52

All dogs should be on leads in public spaces.

User678040 · 23/03/2023 19:53

I don’t think these breeds should be legal. I have a little poodle and I’m frightened to take him out in case a dog like this gets hold of him. I read about a case a few years ago where a toy poodle was ripped apart by one of these monsters. The poor little thing tried to crawl under a car to hide, but it dragged him out.

No, why should anyone be subjected to that level of risk? It’s like having a small lion walking round on a lead, or worse, off a lead. Fine in the jungle, but not where there are people and harmless pets.

Dollyparton3 · 23/03/2023 19:54

My D-dog is a very good natured doodle breed but he tends to bark at anything he's scared of and normally it's anything male, intact and bigger than him. He decided as a pup that horses scare him and living rurally we see a lot of them in walks. His reaction is growling but not teeth baring attack mode, however we would never let him off lead for fear of him being a twat and coming off worse than the horse or even worse spooking the horse and causing a problem for the rider.

Utterly irresponsible of the owner to not only enable his dog near the horses to attack but his lack of empathy post attack should have him banned for life if not serving a sentence for allowing this to happen

Itstillgoeson · 23/03/2023 19:58

Absolutely, the dog should be destroyed. It was not defending itself, it was trying to kill the horse. Very grim video of the dog hanging off the horse, at the base of the neck. These dogs are descended from pitbulls. After the recent tragedies they should be banned.

I have a English mastiff cross breed mutt thing, and I am also weary of walking him these days. Hes 6, and getting on, he wouldn't stand a chance against a young XL Bully breed. Even though my dog is 50kg and giant, a XL bully would kill him.

So I cant imagine how owners of small dogs feel with these breeds roaming the streets.

bouncydog · 23/03/2023 20:00

Haven’t read the full thread but all dogs should be on a lead around other animals for the safety of everyone. DD has been pursued across the beach by a tiny thing whilst on her horse, snapping around her heels and leaping at her tail. Owner’s response - he won’t hurt. DDs response - my horse will when she double barrels him into the back of beyond! No animal is bomb proof - they are all unpredictable including under circumstances where there have never been issues previously!

Lovelycupofcoffee · 23/03/2023 20:04

Absolutely shocking to watch and the rider was so lucky not to have been thrown off the horse and seriously hurt. Yes the dog should be put down and the owner should be prosecuted . There is no cure for stupid .

He criticised the have-a-go-hero passer-by who stepped in to help, using a long stick to keep the dog at bay.

“The guy was rude,” said Hakan who has had Coco for around a year.

“I was so angry at the time. He said I didn’t do nothing. I tried.

“I reciprocate energy. If you’re rude to me I will be rude back to you.

What a fucking tool of a human being

What a cunt

Museya15 · 23/03/2023 20:08

It's the owner, not the dog but unfortunately it's dangerous so has to be destroyed. I couldn't even watch the footage, my heart was broke for that poor horse.
