Apologies if there’s been another thread on this but I couldn’t see one! A police horse has been attacked an injured by an off-lead dog in London. No prizes for guessing the breed 🙄.

AIBU to think if the dog is capable of attacking a horse (I think we can assume unprovoked) then there is a serious risk of fatal consequences to a human from this dog and therefore it needs to be put down?

What a ridiculous comparison! People who are potentially getting bucked off or kicked by horses are engaging with horses of their own free will and at their own risk. This police officer/horse combo were minding their own business patrolling a park. I don’t think anyone knowingly accepts the risk of being attacked by a dog because they’re in a public space!

I love dogs but something needs doing about these XL bullies and frankly the type of people who seem to own them . Pity the man with the long stick didn’t crack the owner over the head a couple of times ( by accident of course ) .

That could have been a child that dog had gone for I am tired of these reckless owners saying how lovely the dog is and it wouldn't hurt a fly.

I'm also getting fed up of dog owners who think it's acceptable to allow the dogs to jump over people or run up to people and do the ohh she/he is only being friendly don't care I don't want a strange dog all over me or bounding up towards my children and me.

I live about 20 mins from the park, and run regularly there. I've seen more and more dogs running around of control in Victoria Park recently - more than one incident of dogs, large and small, chasing runners and bike riders, multiple ones where little kids get completely knocked over by a dog, and just a lot of owners struggling to recall their dogs and having to chase them around to get them back on lead. Think maybe it's poorly trained lockdown puppies who are now growing up and too big for owners to handle their behaviour, plus owners being back at work with less time to exercise them. It's a huge issue.

The dog displayed its prey drive, completely predictable to anyone with any kind of knowledge of dogs.

The owner needs locking up and banned from owning dogs.

Should the dog be destroyed because its arsehat owner hasn’t trained it or kept it on a lead? No. Should be on a lead and muzzled at all times when out though. I have prey driven dogs, but none would harm a horse like that. That dog was trying to kill

We really do need dog licences. I know they won't prevent every incident, but they will help, and they will also provide the funds for dog wardens

The video is awful and the owner just stands back while other people are trying to get the dog off the horse. It’s reported he’d had the dog a year. The sinner that breed is banned the better.

Hazan should be fined, made to pay the vet bill, and banned from keeping animals for life. A jail sentence may help, to deter other, shit for brains, status dog breed owners from letting their dogs roam free.

XL bullies either need to be banned, or muzzled and on lead. Proof needs to be given as to why anyone needs one and this should be approved by the LA.

All dog breeding requires better standards and regulations in place.

The idiot owner was "lucky" it was a police horse - trained to be calm in incredibly stressful situations. My mare would have double barrelled it half way across the park - probably killing it.

I actually despair - there are only going to be more instances like these as the idiots breed and sell even more of these.

Banning these kind of breeds is never going to work. Banning these kinds of people from owning any kind of animal (from goldfish up) and actually enforcing it is the only thing that will work. I think that anyone who wants a pet of any kind needs to go on a training course for that particular animal, buy a licence/register the animal somehow. Exotic 'pets' of any kind should be banned. It shouldn't be so easy for any idiot to buy another living creature.

But horses are heavier, why didn't the horse kick the dog in the skull, could have caused damage. Or has it been trained not to as it's a police horse.
