This is abuse. What kind of parent takes their baby to a show like this?

MadameCholet, thanks for your useful and informative posts on that thread.

So annoying.

I put shit loads of effort into that thread!

Hopefully she got it removed because she realised how wrong she'd got it by attending in the first place.

You made a VERY valuable contribution.

I doubt it, she was very adamant that she's done nothing wrong.

She never once answered the question: What exactly was it about this lovely show she went to, that - as she asserted repeatedly - she wouldn't want her child to see once over the age of 12 months.

I’ve spent bloody ages putting emojis over other people’s kids faces when I should’ve been painting a wall 😂

It annoys me when they pull a thread that isn't identifying, just because it hasn't gone the way the OP wanted.
So infuriating.
There was a valuable discussion going on.

ArabellaScott · 07/03/2023 15:47

It's very hard for someone to hear they're wrong, and harder yet to acknowledge that they've made an error of judgement. Espe-fucking-specially when it comes to parenting choices and having involving a child in sexualised activity.

It's hard to admit you're wrong when you have defended yourself so forcefully, though. Much easier to flounce than hold your hands up.

If Burlesque is not sexual at all, are there burlesque classes for children?

Would OP let their child do burlesque classes?

Sorry flash I meant the OP on the now deleted thread.

Who denied actually saying that they didn't consider drag and burlesque to be sexual acts but had indeed said it.

It is definitely a shame it's been pulled - it was very educational.

ScrollingLeaves · 07/03/2023 15:49

What was the reason. Was it valid? Was there name calling etc?

Agreed, that would have been a good thread to get picked up by the papers 🤣

So much for the hard hat and being right. I think someone couldn't deal!

I hope she's gone away to do some serious thinking about her parenting choices.

They didn't give a reason. They just said she'd asked for it to be pulled and, given the way it was going, they were happy to oblige.

ArabellaScott · 07/03/2023 15:51

Perhaps a different thread on whether sexualised entertainment is suitable for children might be useful, so we could have those discussions without it all being directed at one person.

No. But a lot of us repeatedly pointed out the disconnect in what was being said and the blunt reality.

But I am conscious of not making this a TAAT and losing this one.

I posted this and immediately realised that is what this thread is for ... 😂

Overthinkingnotdrinking · 07/03/2023 15:54

I was trying to explain to my husband about drag shows for babies after reading that thread. Glad this one is here so I can show the pictures.

VitaminX · 07/03/2023 15:54

I think we'd all be upset and defensive to be told that we'd made a huge error in judgment when it came to our baby's well-being. So I can understand that in the moment she was going to continue to dismiss and ultimately would rather end the conversation rather than say, "Oh, I've fucked up". But hopefully some of the things that were said will sit with her and other people who read the thread. Even though she said she'd happily go again, it's quite likely she would actually think twice about it.

We're going to need to start archiving all of the threads, sadly.

No!
I saw no name calling. Like I said it was a good discussion, with good points being made articulately and backed up. There was no abuse or name calling.
I was very pissed off that it was pulled.

Yes @purpleboy it would have been good if even some of that thread had made the papers. Imagine the frothing in the DM!
