DP thinks my bag is 'childish and showy'

I'm originally from Sweden and back home people of all ages carry these bags. Last week, I decided to purchase a new KÃ¥nken to replace the one I've had for 10 years. Picked this colour (www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-rainbow-mini?v=F23621%3a%3a7323450792466) this time around to replace the black one I had, and DH absolutely hates it. I use it primarily for dog walks and trips to the local cafe/shops and he thinks it's too showy/childish and feels 'embarrassed' when I take it with me when we go out for coffee together. Confused

AIBU to think that it's just a bag? It's not that bad, is it?

It's a perfectly normal bag. No idea what your dp's issue is. Odd

JaninaDuszejko · 23/02/2023 21:45

Love a Kanken bag. So your DH is being unreasonable.

TiredandHungry19 · 23/02/2023 21:45

I'll be honest - it does look like a bag for children, and it's obviously eye catching as it's bright - but you should wear whatever bag you like.

roastedtomatoes · 23/02/2023 21:45

Wrong link, mine's the bright yellow one!

Oh good grief it's FINE!

MoltenLasagne · 23/02/2023 21:45

It does look like it could be a (very expensive) school bag, but so what? I think your DP is being very childish for a) thinking anyone is even noticing and b) caring what they think if they do.

Lkydfju · 23/02/2023 21:46

I see these all the time; quite normal surely

Greenqueen40 · 23/02/2023 21:46

What an idiot, its a perfectly normal looking bag, just brighter than some. Ignore him!

NuffSaidSam · 23/02/2023 21:48

Your DH sounds like he's got some problems tbh. Does he wear exclusively grey or something?

Thedogscollar · 23/02/2023 21:48

It's a nice bag. Ignore your dh.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/02/2023 21:48

I like it.

RestingMurderousFace · 23/02/2023 21:49

It does look like a kid's bag but I wouldn't judge you for it.

laundryelf · 23/02/2023 21:49

I like it, would buy one if it was in my budget. Looks great, cheerful and practical.

LadyHarmby · 23/02/2023 21:49

It does have the vibe of a child’s bag but that’s no reason not to have it. He’s being silly.

GoodChat · 23/02/2023 21:50

It's lovely

Anastasia666 · 23/02/2023 21:50

It’s a lovely bag. I’ve got a pink one (not the rainbow one). I’m looking at getting one of the rainbow ones too. Love these bags.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 23/02/2023 21:51

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I would say it has a fun, youthful feel, but certainly isn't childish. Your DH thinks it's "showy" - well, what's wrong with a splash of colour? Or does he object to the logo and rainbow handles? If he's ok with colour, maybe try Roka bags? Roka bags

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 23/02/2023 21:51

The bright yellow one is a bit ‘I’m zany me! I would make a great kids tv presenter’.

DD bought a good copy in Camden Market last year, if you’re anywhere near there

TinyCactusInAPot · 23/02/2023 21:51

It does look like a kid’s bag, but that is what makes it fun

a bit like wearing dungarees (also fun imo)

why is your husband bothered at all? Is he generally overly worried about what other people might think? Can you tell him that is a bit childish of him? More so than your bag? 🙃

KILM · 23/02/2023 21:52

Childish = fun
Showy = bright

My friend has the exact same bag as you and gets loads of compliments. Who says adults can only dress in shades of neutrals and carry sensible black bags - absolutely fuck that. You only live once so why not just have things you love?

He's a wanker for making a thing out of it, if you had directly asked his opinion he could have just said 'I don't love it, but if you love it that's what's important!' Rather than insult it because you are meant to be encouraging about harmless things that make your partner happy, not put them down.

Oh I liked the brown but that one is a bit "look at me"

Ffsmakeitstop · 23/02/2023 21:53

If you're not asking him to carry it he gets no opinion. Miserable git.

Yeah that's the vibe I'm getting
