Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Looks very nice to me- but then I don't like steak

Tirednest · 10/02/2023 14:47

OK might be a couple of quid more, but I'd happily pay at least that to avoid a repulsive bottle of prosecco, a sickly prawn cocktail and a cheap tasting pudding.

LlynTegid · 10/02/2023 14:49

You are being unreasonable to pander to such marketing.

people always have to be so dramatic.

It looks okay if you add some fresh veggies.

Not really. It looks utterly disgusting to me, I'd be gutted if dh bought it.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 10/02/2023 14:53

Steaks from our local butcher start at £20 kg for rump. That’s £7 a kg more than Tesco. Although obviously the quality and taste are miles apart it’s completely edible especially if you can cook properly.

So I don’t think on a meal deal budget, supermarket steak is a bad deal.

For sure.

gelatogina · 10/02/2023 14:54

I mean, it doesn’t look amazing but for £20 it’s ok

Pipsquiggle · 10/02/2023 14:56

Don't normally do the valentines meal deal but Waitrose has cocktails included this year so thought I would give it a go

GoodChat · 10/02/2023 14:56

Yeah if I asked for steak and asparagus and got chicken I'd be disappointed but there are loads of other options available (including rib eye steak because I saw it earlier)

BarbaraofSeville · 10/02/2023 14:56

Some of the offerings are decent value.

I had a look at Waitrose after it was mentioned by a PP and see that for £20 you can get a half litre of premixed cocktail, salmon mousse, seabass, cauliflower cheese and pannacotta in their deal.

I know the prices of the separate items are somewhat exaggerated, but separately they add up to £35 so quite a bargain to get all that for £20, especially if you're using the treaty meal as an alternative to a takeaway or cram em in set menu at a restaurant.

HashtagShitShop · 10/02/2023 14:56

Definitely not worth 20 quid. It's essentially a tiny starter, a chicken escalope and boiled potatoes and a tiny pudding for double what they used to be not that long ago

Pipsquiggle · 10/02/2023 14:58

Oh I forgot to include the cheese soufflés in the photo above

HermioneWeasley · 10/02/2023 14:59

That does look bland. Another vote here for the Morrisons deal - their beef wellington is lovely

TightFistedWozerk · 10/02/2023 15:00

Where is OP? We need to know did she mean scallops or escalopes. Etymology/entomology level confusion, imo.

ifonly4 · 10/02/2023 15:00

If it's a simple meal with a bottle of something, I wouldn't complain. Is it the choice or cost you're unhappy with?

JackieDaws · 10/02/2023 14:31

Oh no not CHEMICALS

Yes don’t you think those meals have a bit of a taint to them?

MrMarkham · 10/02/2023 15:03

They are chicken escalopes aren't they?

DillDanding · 10/02/2023 15:03

M&S one looks a bit naff.

steak option would’ve been better, but with escalope? Escalope of what?

The Waitrose ones look really nice.

ilikepinknblue · 10/02/2023 15:03

To the posters who say not worth £20, how is M&S supposed to source good ingredients, pay decent salaries to their cooks, staff in stores and in warehouse, and make some money to keep the company going if you expect them to provide a bottle of wine, starter, main and dessert for 2?

Are you kidding, it’s a 3 course meal and half of Prosecco each for a tenner.

op, he went cheap. If you want a 3 course meal, which included steak and asparagus. and booze you’d spent a lot more than a tenner each.
