Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Well it's cheap. M&S steak before Xmas were £8 each. They were lush though.

It's just icky unromantic to choose a meal like this for your loved one. I've always either cooked or booked a meal out funds permitting.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 10/02/2023 15:04

It looks relentlessly beige, I'd have expected a meal to include vegetables.

There is no law says you can’t add them.

Substitution or boyfriend not making the choices you would have?

It’s fine. Not what I would choose - but fine.

Looks fine to me. If you wanted steak, just buy it rather than the meal.

WetLettuce2 · 10/02/2023 15:10

The wine is £10 so the rest for £10 I think is good value.

TheOrigRights · 10/02/2023 15:12

What constitutes a Valentine's Day meal? Normal food in pink packaging?

StaunchMomma · 10/02/2023 15:12

The Waitrose £20 Valentines meal looks better. I've gone for cheese souffles, steaks with sage butter, potato gratin, Raspberry Panna Cotta & a bottle pre-mixed espresso martini (4 glasses). Not necessarily the best offered, but the options that are gluten free.

Price of all outside of deal is £37 - the cocktail is £16 alone.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/02/2023 15:12

No-one actually ever pays £10 for a bottle of basic prosecco, do they? Surely not.

It's on offer so often that you just get it when it's £2 off, 2 for £16, 25% off when you buy 6 bottles, etc etc.

Knoblauch · 10/02/2023 15:12

If you don't want it you can always return it.

A chicken escalope is exactly what I'd expect if I asked for an escalope.

AllCatsAreBeautiful · 10/02/2023 15:13

yeah it looks a bit depressing to me - where are the vegetables?! Whoever is cooking could get an ok wine for about £7 and make a much nicer and more romantic dinner costing about £13 if they cooked it properly rather than buying a ready meal.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 15:15

M&S meal deals come with 1 side. If you choose a potato option, you need to add your own veg. It's not rocket science. 🤪

Lulu1919 · 10/02/2023 15:15

I chose
Duck parfait
Cod with peppers
Cheesy green veg
Lemon cheesecake
Pink fizz

ItsaStupidSillyThing · 10/02/2023 15:18

Meal looks nice but I'd rather something chocolate based and indulgent for dessert. I also wouldn't like the starter! Main looks nice though!

Theluggage15 · 10/02/2023 15:18

It’s a meal deal, you buy your own extra sides. Steak, escalopes and asparagus is weird, what sort of escalope?

Why people think food should be dirt cheap is beyond me.

I always choose something like dauphinoise potatoes or cauliflower cheese that's more time consuming to make and has more value as we normally have something like broccoli in anyway.

But I don't necessarily get a defined meal or eat all the things together anyway. I just pick what I like the look of and often combine it with other things we have in.

Sometimes <whisper> it is possible to serve a meal without any vegetables at all.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/02/2023 15:19

Love all the faux misunderstanding about the 'escalope'. It's a big posh chicken nugget FFS.

the confusion is because she's got the posh chicken nugget and she's saying she doesn't want that, she wants steak and escalope.

IWonderWhyIBother · 10/02/2023 15:22

Add some veg and it would be lovely.

You likely get a choice of sides so whoever chose has picked the potatoes . My sister had the sirloin steak option last night and said it was the nicest steak they’ve had for a long time .

Arrrrrrragghhh · 10/02/2023 15:24

@BarbaraofSeville It’s not faux misunderstanding about what an escalope is.
It’s why the Op was expecting it in a meal deal when they requested steak. You only get one main a meal deal.
So it’s a spelling error, probably meant scallops as in a starter. That’s what people are debating

ExistenceOptional · 10/02/2023 15:25

I agree OP. I looked at their dine in meal and was not impressed. Other stores have much nicer options.
