To think this ‘valentines’ m&s meal is rubbish?

Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Just don’t bother with Valentines day and save your money. Seeing all that marked up cheap rubbish in the shops and M&S with their pink label dinners makes you realise how ridiculous it is. All the pre made meals always taste like chemicals. You could make a much nice meal for £20 including a bottle of wine/fizz or if you don’t want to cook order a takeaway?

GrumpyPanda · 10/02/2023 14:19

That looks... awful. If you can't return it, freeze it for some sort of emergency.

BertaHoon · 10/02/2023 14:22

You have chicken escalopes.

Like a Birdseye meal. YANBU.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 10/02/2023 14:23

Are you pissed off with M and S or your husband?

MrsMitford3 · 10/02/2023 14:24

I am confused-did this get substituted in your delivery @Dawbie or did you send partner to shops with shopping list and he came back with this?

Whichever reason it looks vile!

ChristmasKraken · 10/02/2023 14:24

Maybe they couldn't find the right chips to pair with the steak...?

Notthecarwashagain · 10/02/2023 14:27

Had a nosey, out of interest and this is the menu.

As others have suggested, assuming you wanted scallops as a starter, rather than escalopes you got as a main?

Why won't anyone think of the Perfect Pairings??

Egghead68 · 10/02/2023 14:27

I think it looks good but if you don’t like it you don’t like it

Sleepless1096 · 10/02/2023 14:27

You've got all the unexciting options there - the worst of almost every option 😂! There wasn't much left in our local M&S when I was there yesterday so we went for the Morrisons one instead: camembert share and tear bread, beef wellington, dauphinoise potatoes, mixed green vegetables and caramel profiteroles for £15.

If you buy a 'cheap' meal, you get a cheap meal...

Notthecarwashagain · 10/02/2023 14:28

Urgh excuse my terrible punctuation. Very tired.

Hundredpercenttraitor · 10/02/2023 14:28

It's disgusting.

A bunch of murdered animals.

A Valentine's Day massacre indeed.

EmmaEmerald · 10/02/2023 14:28

Do you mean you were expecting a steak starter and chicken escalopes?

Presumably that’s why the Op wanted steak and asparagus. Just the basic (but expensive) fresh options.
Instead she’s got a processed breaded chicken and cheap potatoes.

Rubbish

I think Morrisons have the best value meal. TWO sides, starter, main, pudding and fizz for £15.

Wetblanket78 · 10/02/2023 14:31

I wouldn't expect anything more from M&S. A local to me butcher posted this deal this morning. I would pick that over the M&S deal even though you don't get any plonk and it's supporting a local business.

Oh no not CHEMICALS

Favouritefruits · 10/02/2023 14:31

It’s £20 worth of food a drink that Prosecco is £10 on its own, the only problem with the meal is it could do with some sort of veg.

NumberTheory · 10/02/2023 14:32

I’m not sure what the concern is here - is it that you wanted steak but got chicken? Or that you wanted a focus on quality in the main course and you got cheaper stuff with a starter, pudding and wine that you didn’t want?

If steak, asparagus and escalopes (scalloped potatoes?) weren’t available I think cordon blue chicken and rosemary roasted potatoes is a reasonable substitution. I’d be disappointed at the lack of veg as I like my veg. I’m also not keen on most fizz so that wouldn’t make me super happy, but I can see why pink fizz for a Valentine’s meal would be chosen by someone who didn’t know that.

If it was someone who’s supposed to know and love you who went shopping and they picked a bunch of things you didn’t like, I can understand your disappointment. But I think it’s generally a reasonable Valentine’s meal for the money.

PurplePastaBake · 10/02/2023 14:34

The Tesco deal is good this year. Side, main, dessert and a bottle for £12. But one of the bottles included is a £10 bottle of Prosecco, so the side, main and dessert are only £2.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2023 14:36

We usually do the m&s meal for £20 for vd

think it was slightly more last year but bed. £20 for least 10yrs

need to know was it oh or delivery @Dawbie

Those supermarket steaks always look grim 😩

Tirednest · 10/02/2023 14:40

I think it looks disgusting. Steak from the butcher, salad and a bottle of red costs less than that and would be much nicer.

Steaks are around £7 each in my butcher for 225g, wine what £7+ then the salad.

Where are you shopping that it would be cheaper?!
