Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

It's bleedin' M&S, not Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons!

The Asda offering for £15 is a pretty good deal, starter, main, two sides, dessert and a bottle of wine. I'm tempted to get one just for me and eek it out over two days!

I am doing this very thing right now Grin

MysteryBelle · 11/02/2023 18:27

I’m pretty picky and that looks fine to me. But if you ordered steak you should have gotten steak. Asparagus is out of season but I understand wanting a green vegetable. The rosemary garnish does little to keep whole meal from looking one color. Other than that, not bad.

LoisLane66 · 11/02/2023 18:27

Ah! But WHO bought it?

LoisLane66 · 11/02/2023 18:31

I was under the impression that customers choose what they want to make up the meal from the various offerings, so if that's what you chose....🙄
That's how it works in Tesco, Waitrose etc

karamazing · 11/02/2023 18:31

Those Dine-In meals have gone steadily downhill. I used to buy them every single time but they started using cheap ingredients and reducing options until there was nothing left for us. It's sad because I associate them with our early days of dating before I became proper cheffy !

L1SG · 11/02/2023 18:40

I think this is a M&S marketing ploy 🤣🤣🤣

InFiveMins · 11/02/2023 18:46

Yeah that's shit for £20.

Zanatdy · 11/02/2023 18:46

Looks ok, I’d eat it but then I’m not massively fussy. My new bf is cooking for me, I’m quite excited I don’t have to cook the valentines meal

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake oh i was saying it can be found here right now as i found it in Morrisons, however for growing it here, it is actually planted in March but as i said it takes a long time and by long time i mean 3 years before you can harvest it, at which point im sure you can harvest it whenever you choose.

No you can't. You have to wait for it to shoot and the shoots to be the right size.
Late May into June - quite a short season. It's a member of the lily family, oddly enough. Professional gardener here.

Looks like typical Polish dinner (except prawn cocktail) 😅Not worth 20 quid, IMO. No veggies there?

As someone from a polish background. WTF?

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/02/2023 19:06

We got one from Tesco today. £12 for main plus side, dessert and very good bottle of wine.

CosyFanTucci · 11/02/2023 19:06

I can only see all the packaging. 😐

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/02/2023 19:13

Why on earth is that main ‘horrendous’?

amispeakingintongues · 11/02/2023 19:21

Yeah looks pretty basic for a special meal costing £20

karamazing · 11/02/2023 19:23

Is cordon bleu chicken the same as poulet suisse? I mean, cordon bleu is a cookery school so it could mean anything really?

lionsandwhales · 11/02/2023 19:34

YANBU It looks uninspiring and not particularly special. The price is ok but if you don’t like it, that’s £20 lost.
My lazy valentines dinner ( to leave time for other things 😉) will be cold meats, & cheeses and a bottle of bubbles. No cooking and can be eaten in bed ❤️

TheKeatingFive · 11/02/2023 19:58

Its a long standing dish, just google it

whatstheproblemguys · 11/02/2023 20:29

The Morrisons one is lovely and cheaper!
We got prawn and scallop starter, beef wellington main with 2 sides, dessert and bottle of Prosecco for £15! I was really impressed!

whatstheproblemguys · 11/02/2023 20:33

mum2jakie · 10/02/2023 13:14

Morrisons have a better deal. £15 for one starter, main (which includes two rump steaks), two sides, dessert and a bottle of wine.

I bought this! Looks lovely! Got beef wellington with 2 sides, starter and dessert with a bottle of Prosecco. When it went through the till it came up -£18.56, so it's a decent saving!

Chuck2015 · 11/02/2023 20:48

Just had the Croquilles De Jacques, rump steak with pepper sauce with potato Dauphinois and chocolate and orange brownie with Malbec wine. It was delicious. Re the greens, added green beans from
Sainsburys at the cost of £1.10. Completely restaurant standard, roughly worked it out and I think you’d pay minimum £80 in a restaurant for the same meal.

Missingpop · 11/02/2023 20:49

You get what you pay for; what did you pay £15 quid pay peanuts expect monkey nuts stop whinging if you’ve got deep pockets & short arms don’t shout about you tight arse! Maybe just cook a half decent meal for the person you care for!

Greenshed · 11/02/2023 21:00

From the picture, it looks pretty disgusting, loaded in saturated fat, salt and goodness knows what else.

hiyaKen · 11/02/2023 21:00

Why did you but it ?

Tropicaliyes · 11/02/2023 21:09

@Bideshi I by no means was meaning to sound like a avid asparagus grower, I never intended to grow Asparagus and was just commenting to the posters that said it cannot be grown here because i found google said the complete opposite and that it is grown here all the time. Also that it cannot be found here in February as i was saying i found it in Morrisons myself the other day so for sure can be found here. The only thing I did see on my basic search was the length of time it took to grow but didnt look into when it can be harvested which looking now says “In the third year, harvest spears from mid-April for six weeks”. So at least i now know 😅.

I also didnt know you just cut the tops off and it continues growing which left we with more questions tbh but i guess at least it continues on (i also dont know how lilly’s (Lillies?) work either.)
