Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Where are the vegetables? Doesn’t look very nice. I’d rather have a better meal and no wine.

Tirednest · 10/02/2023 18:12

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to eat seasonal food.

I completely agree.

But that wasn't my point.

Where are the vegetables?

What you buy in the shop. Whatever mysterious person bought the meal chose the potato option over a veg option.

newnamethanks · 10/02/2023 18:31

Waitrose has a decent £20 offer.

WeAreAllLionesses · 10/02/2023 18:43

That all looks bloody lovely!! If I had that here now I'd really enjoy it!

StickofVeg · 10/02/2023 18:46

Looks good to me! If he is cooking it too then zero problem I think.

BertaHoon · 10/02/2023 18:51

Thank goodness for @BarbaraofSeville . Where would we be without her?

Benjispruce4 · 10/02/2023 18:53

Try getting a meal out like that with fizz for £20 ! YABU

Stuffynosetime · 10/02/2023 18:57

Markies are advertising a scallops, greens, steak, chocolate pud and Prosecco meal for 2 for 20 quid. Suspect they ran out so her partner got the 20 quid meal deal that was available and she’s not taken it well.

The ultimate in first world problems. I'm vegetarian so wouldn't eat the starter or mains, but in my previous meat eating days I'd have had no problem. I'd like some veg with it, but we always have frozen veg in - peas, broad beans, green beans, baby carrots etc., so if we we eating that evening, I'd just pop the Prosecco in the freezer for a quick prechill, bung the chicken and spuds in the oven and get some veg ready to steam while DH laid the table.

Oh, and looking at the M and S menu, both the vegetarian and vegan options look lovely! 😋

MissMarplesbag · 10/02/2023 19:22

It just needs padding out with more vegetables that's all.

FadoFado · 10/02/2023 19:27

Was inspired by this thread to pop into Waitrose on the way home and see what they're offering for their Valentine's meals. Pretty good choices. 9/10.

UnctuousUnicorns · 10/02/2023 19:31

*if we were

rockpoolingtogether · 10/02/2023 19:34

Nothing appetising there at all, in fact the pre made prawn cocktails makes me feel quite nauseous!

FadoFado · 10/02/2023 19:37

I'd happily eat an M&S prawn cocktail.

user1501270679 · 10/02/2023 19:45

I would be a bit pissed off, but tbh, would just give in, pre-drink the Prosecco while chucking the food in the the oven, enjoy the meal as best I could over what remained of the Prosecco (and whatever other alcohol I had sent a contrite husband out to gather) and enjoy having a nice long shag rather than washing up.

The situation is what you make of it...

Is the OP coming back?

Oddbutnotodd · 10/02/2023 19:53

I think the Sainsbury’s is probably better. £15.

ItsaStupidSillyThing · 10/02/2023 20:04

We've ordered the asda £15 Valentine's deal: starter, main, two sides, dessert, wine/box of chocolates, sky movie voucher & &1.50 in cashpot.

With it being such an amazing deal i didn't expect much in terms of quality, but actually it looks delicious, with raving reviews. It puts M&S to shame.

We have chosen mushroom arancini hearts starter, Nduja stuffed chicken parcels main, dauphinoise potatoes side, chanenay carrots with yuzu & lime side, dessert: salted caramel millionaires puddings, box of Belgian chocolates. Bought additional tenderstem broccoli, baby corns, green bean fresh medley for £1.40, so cost £16.40 in total for all of that. I will probably pick up some cream or iceream to have with the dessert, and make a little caramelised onion gravy. Job done.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 20:06

I love those little prawn cocktails 😆

Belindabelle · 10/02/2023 20:56

I normally avoid these meal deals, however the Waitrose offer was too good to miss.
My delivery arrived on Thursday and I was pleasantly surprised that the use by dates were the 14/15th Feb.

I went for salmon mousse, beef bourguignon, cauliflower cheese (order this every week) cheese selection and Tails espresso martini.

Opened the martini last night and it is very good so I have ordered another 2 meal deals that are arriving tomorrow. Some items will go in the freezer (rib eye steak, frites, leek and Roquefort tarts) and I doubled up on the mousse and beef as DS and his partner are coming for dinner on Sunday. I will try to keep the 2nd bottle of espresso martini for later in the year. Also went for a bottle of the rum daiquiri and some of the Heston puddings.

Yes don’t you think those meals have a bit of a taint to them?

I don’t know, never having eaten them - I find it odd that you’ve had them more than once if they’re so unpleasant - but I find it quite hard to believe that some chat potatoes and a bit of breaded chicken have an offensively ‘chemical’ taste.
