To think this ‘valentines’ m&s meal is rubbish?

Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Cheese and ham

That's the one!

Arrrrrrragghhh · 10/02/2023 17:32

@CherLloydbyCherLloyd No. The spelling mistake is just on the opening post. You don’t two mains do you? So clearly the Op meant a starter which has become “escalope” on the post.
They asked for steak and asparagus and got breaded chicken and potatoes.

This is Lidl's offering. It could be worse 🙊

Chicken hearts look quite cute

Mini blondes would like those 😂

Aquael · 10/02/2023 17:25

OP are you disappointed because that's all that you were able to get? Or did you choose those from lots of other things.

I was in M&S today and mine had everything. Lovely Scallops St Jacques, steaks, BIG packs of very nice looking asparagus, lots of nice sides and desserts. It all looked lovely and depending on what you choose, it would be an amazing value.

Now that's just mean @Aquael

Teasing the op like that

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2023 17:35

@Dawbie come back

Tell us all

viques · 10/02/2023 17:36

I don’t understand why anyone would want to eat asparagus in February. It will have more air miles than a minor royal. Wait untilJune and eat proper home grown asparagus .

Anonymous48 · 10/02/2023 17:42
  1. What do you mean by a Valentines "cheap" meal?

  2. Who did you ask, and who came back with it?

  3. What are escalopes?

Anonymous48 · 10/02/2023 17:44
  1. It all looks pretty tasty. (Apart from the pink prosecco, which wouldn't be my choice.) What's the issue?
MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 10/02/2023 17:45

Whoever supplied this to the OP is currently being turned into escalopes.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 10/02/2023 17:47

I’d not buy it or accept it in a delivery. I’d also think my partner couldn’t be arsed if that’s what they served up for me as a treat. Not my cup of tea at all.

Ooh, I thought viques won the thread with "more air miles than a minor royal" but I love this! Ooh, it's a tough competition 😂

No. Eat local, eat seasonal. It’s not hard.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 17:51

Anyone else getting loads of Valentine's Day ads?

Ah but you didn't say that did you?

I agree it's not hard if you can be arsed but you said you did'nt understand why someone might fancy something that is out of season.

I thought the comment about airmiles was clear. As was my comment about wait until June for British asparagus. But I have learned my lesson, I will try to modify future posts to account for the hard of thinking.

Whilst you are at it you might want to reign in the virtue signalling in too.

Unless of course you are typing on a computer/phone made of homegrown spuds?

If so, do forgive me.

mybunniesandme · 10/02/2023 18:10

I had a look at it in M&S earlier - no where near as good value as previous years - previous years would get a small box of chocolates as well

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to eat seasonal food.

ByTheGrace · 10/02/2023 18:12

Would be quite happy with all that, although it needs a side or two of veg. I always hate that Valentines meals are often steak, I don't eat beef.
If someone was to serve that for me, I'd be grateful, it's always lovely to have someone else cook. I hate cooking as much as I hate steak!

That's what I said. A little box of 4

I work in retail, part of my role is to look at what the market is doing.

Whether you agree or disagree, there are enough people that opt into these meal deals that make it 'an event.'

At Valentine's, people tend to 'trade up' - that may mean trading up from standard to luxury items or changing to a more upmarket retailer. M&S and Waitrose tend to overtrade on these events vs the market.

I have to say, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the M&S offering this year, they are usually on-point with this sort of stuff.

Abraxan · 10/02/2023 18:21

op, he went cheap. If you want a 3 course meal, which included steak and asparagus. and booze you’d spent a lot more than a tenner each.

The M&S Valentine's Day meal deal options includes steak. For the same price there was sirloin or rump steaks as a main.
I don't think there was asparagus as an option but there was other vegetables as a side if you chose it. We bought vegetables as an extra as chose the potatoes as a side too.

The wine alone is just under a tenner iirr, so the food is around £10 - 3 courses isn't bad for that.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 18:23

M&S do run out of options though. Maybe all the steaks had gone?
