To hate the new Cauldron sausages

Cauldron Lincolnshire sausages used to be the best veggie sausages out the market, but they have changed the recipe to make them vegan, and in the process they have ruined them. They have gone from being plump and tasty to these awful flaccid plasticky tasting tubes that need a specially designed packet to stop them from splodging out all the tray.

Have you tried the new recipe? Aibu?

I have an update - I was cross because I accidentally reordered these BUT! I cooked them in plenty of rapeseed oil (more than usual) and I had the oil pretty hot before I put them in, and then I kept them moving in the pan rather than leaving them alone like I’d usually do. I was hoping that if they were properly brown and crisped up they’d get a better flavour and it worked! They were fantastic - just like the slightly cheap caff sausages that I still miss from meat eating days. Mash, peas, hp sauce - magic.

WinterDeWinter · 03/03/2023 20:34

It was the Cumberland ones btw.

Goldentealeaf · 05/03/2023 16:06

I completely agree; now there just seems to be a raft of 'meat free' meat-like products aimed at holier than thou show vegetarians who don't actually want to eat vegetables in the supermarkets and no (or very few) actual vegetarian options. I've been a vegetarian for nearly 40 years and it is harder than ever to eat well if you havent got the time, money or skill to produce your own and meat-like isn't what you want. The supermarkets now seem to have stopped selling nut cutlets, too :(

ExCarer · 04/04/2023 13:03

It seems that the original vegetarian recipe sausages have returned and are now available in Tesco.

ExCarer · 04/04/2023 13:23

Pic here but it might be wise to double check the packaging in store as they might be selling off old stock.

This is a good update. I have added some to my Tesco order , with a note saying must be veggie not vegan.

AliasGrape · 04/04/2023 14:07

Hurray!

ExCarer · 04/04/2023 14:12

Also according to the Cauldron site, it looks like they're available in other supermarkets too.

OneFrenchEgg · 04/04/2023 14:44

ONG amazing

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 04/04/2023 15:55

I've just looked on their fb (and ugg at the customer posted pic of the vegan slop sausages) and they say they've had a banger clanger

Crikeyalmighty · 04/04/2023 17:49

I've tried several vegan 'manufactured' products this week- all revolting. I'm not vegan and if I was I would be making all my own stuff after sampling some wares!!

RedRosie · 04/04/2023 17:55

They're back?

There is A God.

shyalice · 04/04/2023 18:02

As far as I am aware they will be making both types - the vegan ones and the veggie ones.

Personally I don’t care either way. I tried Cauldron sausages years ago and I thought they were vile 🤮.

Happy days 😀

Happy days 😀

me too!!

hopsalong · 05/04/2023 08:53

How depressing and stupid. I haven't had these sausages and am not even a vegetarian. But I love vegetarian food and would often in the past order a bean burger or nut roast from preference. I have noticed (without really thinking about why) that this option has largely gone when eating out.

Previously I would choose vegetarian options both from taste preference and because of anxiety about meat provenance / welfare in cheaper restaurants. Now I just get the burger. I absolutely loathe fake meat and can imagine loathing it even more if I didn't like meat in the first place!

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 05/04/2023 09:14

Oh this is FAB news if they are back. I'm off to stock up!

I bought two packs yesterday!

RomeoMcFlourish · 15/04/2024 07:33

Time to resurrect this thread…because they’ve ruined them again! Their ‘new look’ packaging is a sneaky attempt at hiding that they’ve also changed the recipe and put disgusting skins on them.

KimberleyClark · 15/04/2024 07:51

Glamorgan sausages are the best veggie sausages. Most supermarkets have them in the freezer cabinet. They are made with cheese and leeks.

RaininSummer · 15/04/2024 07:52

Oh no. I haven't seen that yet as bought several packs for the freezer. This makes me very sad. Have they put that disgusting vegan version into skins maybe to try to fool us?

ToffeePennie · 15/04/2024 07:56

I want to preface this with - I am not a veggie or a vegan.
what annoys me the most is how many sausages and sausage-type products are stuffed with milk and milk proteins.
my DS is allergic to milk and the amount of times I’ve had to stop him eating a sausage off a grandparents plate because it’s a brand with milk proteins in, is ridiculous.
I wish they would make stuff without fillers like that!! And LABEL it properly too!

YeahComeOnThen · 15/04/2024 08:17

GRRR

a year of being back to normal & they've messed them up AGAIN

WHY DID THEY NOT LEARN????

they're like a highbrid

Due to a health condition and being vegetarian, there aren't many things I can eat I rely on these.

twats.

RomeoMcFlourish · 15/04/2024 08:23

Twats, indeed.

The new ones aren’t as bad as those dreadful vegan ones, but they are different, and are not as nice as the original. Especially if you don’t like skins on your sausages.

Plus the new packaging is awful. Who’s their target market? 5 year olds?

ScarlettSunset · 15/04/2024 08:26

Oh no!
I saw the packaging had changed but I had assumed that was it and the sausages inside were the same. I guess I thought they wouldn't be silly enough to mess with them again!
I have a new packet but I've not tried them yet. I shall prepare myself for disappointment once again then.
