To hate the new Cauldron sausages

biddyboo · 29/01/2023 16:01

Cauldron Lincolnshire sausages used to be the best veggie sausages out the market, but they have changed the recipe to make them vegan, and in the process they have ruined them. They have gone from being plump and tasty to these awful flaccid plasticky tasting tubes that need a specially designed packet to stop them from splodging out all the tray.

Have you tried the new recipe? Aibu?

Yeah, I miss the BK spicy beanburger something awful. I mainlined it in my first pregnancy. The new ones are no good and McDonald's is even worse.

Haven't had time to read the whole thread, but recently complained and got this. Is it just what they send to everyone?

"Thank you for contacting Cauldron.
We’re sorry to say that our Vegetarian Sausages have been discontinued. Apologies for this, we’d much prefer to be delivering better news to you. We'll always consider bringing a product back if there is enough demand to do so, so we will make sure to share your contact with our team.
We miss them too. We will let the team know that you'd like them back!"

Has anyone tried the Aldi plant kitchen buffalo chicken wings, 10/10 - even my partner who eats meat asked if there was a bone in it and said it tasted amazing! I did explain that vegetables don’t have bones 😂

Mine has a middle bit about removing egg and using other stuff to bind it

RedRosie · 02/02/2023 18:02

@OneFrenchEgg none of the egg stuff. Maybe they are softening!

OneFrenchEgg · 02/02/2023 18:09

@RedRosie this was 11am maybe they got fed up later

WTAF?! Bring them back then dipsticks! 🙈🙄🤷‍♀️

HerbalTeaAndChocolate · 02/02/2023 22:34

Had to eat richmonds today. Meh. They are ok. Not as good as the original veggie cauldrons though. They felt a bit like they were wrapped in a condom. 😔

ReneBumsWombats · 02/02/2023 22:37

Linda McCartney seems to be OK.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 05/02/2023 21:56

I'm actually still annoyed about this! 🤬😤

They'll be lucky if they dont go bust at this rate

Cauldron and Quorn are both owned by the same company, Marlow Foods. Reportedly Marlow Foods want to increase production of Quorn to meet global demand, so could it be possible that they want Cauldron to go bust? Is this disasterous recipe change part of an epic sausage conspiracy?

Surely they could just close down the brand if that's what they want, and have a marketing drive to let people know it's Quorn from now on? Why deliberately try to run at a loss, ruin your reputation and waste all those resources?

Marlow Foods is owned by the Monde Nissin, one of the largest food production companies in the Philippines. Do you think there's any chance they'll take any notice of your pleas?

Maybe they've jumped on the vegan agenda and couldn't care less what people want to eat?

HerbalTeaAndCake · 06/02/2023 15:15

Ha! @JocastaElastic yes a conspiracy by power crazed vegans with no taste buds! 🤣

Roarsomemore · 29/01/2023 16:28

I get so annoyed by fake meat being the only veggie option!! I'm veggie because I don't like meat. Burger King only has the fake meat stuff now - why couldn't have they left the bean burger AND added the fake meat stuff? Why no nutcutlets? There are OTHER options. 😩

The BK spice bean burger with melted cheese was amazing. I had it nearly ever day on my break when I worked there.

As others have said Linda McCartney sausages have sadly gone the same way.

Bring back proper veggie options please!!

LilyR007 · 09/02/2023 02:41

The vegetarian sausages were my favourite, but yet again these have been changed for the minority vegan market and are now inedible. I contacted cauldron who came out with some claptrap about reducing the impact on the environment, Don't they know free range chickens enhance the environment? They will reconsider producing the vegetarian sausages if there is enough demand, Please contact them at [email protected] to ask for our veggie sausages back.

OneFrenchEgg · 09/02/2023 06:47

We should start a petition ....

HRazzle · 26/02/2023 18:17

One of the few things my son used to eat. They are absolutely rancid now. Awful texture and flavour. One less meal on the rota now. How did they pass a taste test?!?

Quorn is the worst. I learnt the hard way that I’m going intolerant to it. Apparently it’s a huge allergen to many people.
Doctors couldn’t work out what was causing me such stomach pain and there was talk at one point of removing my gall bladder!

Saw them again in Tesco, squished up in their packet. So disappointing and in two flavours which gave me a moneys hope but no, both vegan.

OneFrenchEgg · 26/02/2023 19:34

ReneBumsWombats · 26/02/2023 21:06

I actually thought Linda McCartney was OK. It's my kids' favourite.

Richmond was impressive but a bit too similar to real meat for my liking...although I guess that's a win for many people.

Moneypennyz · 01/03/2023 14:44

Having loved cauldron too, I switched to Asda OMV! And wow, they're amazing. Rubbed some oil and cooked in the airfryer and will never look back!
