You wake up one morning and everyone has disappeared. You’re completely alone - you have the whole country to yourself.

Everyone else will come back eventually but for a few weeks, it’s just you.

You can do whatever you want with no consequence. Tear-arse down the M1 at 100mph, have a wander around Buckingham palace … what would you do?

And tell me I’m not the only one who has this daydream?

I’m such a fucking bore I’d stay in bed and watch Netflix. But if no one else is around, I’d not be able to order take away.

I’ve had this fantasy too, often. I walk long distance walks and often imagine humanity not being there when I get back.

Oh yes.

But I see it more as survival. No one to run the power stations so I’d need candles and wood to make a fire etc.

What an incredible fantasy, I'm very taken with this. I'm going to explore ideas tonight when I inevitably can't sleep! Walking at night, moonlit solitary picnics, skinny-dipping in the sea spring to mind.

Of course the weather is perfect in the fantasy!

Sounds awful, everything would grind to a halt. Horrible, lonely, pointless, miserable

Yeah there is that aspect, I often wonder what I’d take from Tesco as it would have to be stuff that doesn’t need cooking or refrigerating.

Id take cereal bars, fruit, tinned fish, beans (can eat them cold), bread … bottled water too, you’d need to take some of that.

I have never thought about this but if I did i would be worried about survival too. I'd probably be trying to find guns, stockpile food and water, and try and find an appropriate stronghold.

That would be my own personal nightmare. It genuinely sounds awful.

I would find a motorcycle and ride it inside a shopping centre. Have always wanted to do that.

Why do you need guns? There is nothing to shoot!

I'm most definitely an introvert, but this sounds terrifying. Apart from anything else, imagine you broke your leg the first day? Or worse.

Its only for a few weeks. Do you drink? Go and help yourself at the supermarket …

Everyone comes back in a few weeks though so if it’s a minor ailment you’d probably get a Gp appointment in the same time as you would have anyway 😂

I discovered that show at the start of the pandemic, which lessened the comedy somewhat! It was great though, never found anyone else who saw it.

Watch the documentary Life After People. It documents what would happen to everyday life at different intervals after people have left the planet, eg 20 years, 100 years, 500 years. Its fascinating
