To think I can’t be the only one who fantasises about this scenario?

You wake up one morning and everyone has disappeared. You’re completely alone - you have the whole country to yourself.

Everyone else will come back eventually but for a few weeks, it’s just you.

You can do whatever you want with no consequence. Tear-arse down the M1 at 100mph, have a wander around Buckingham palace … what would you do?

And tell me I’m not the only one who has this daydream?

YABU - it’s just you
YANBU - I have this fantasy too!

I don't think it's going to happen. I think it's a really unpleasant and disturbed fantasy, and you seem (wilfully?) blind to it.

No, I just disagree with you ☺️

I consider myself an introvert and am happy in my own company but I find this idea terrifying. Not sure I can articulate why.

OvaryActions · 26/12/2022 23:06

Bloody hell @BloodAndFire 😂 it's just a thought exercise to explore what she'd do in that situation (as if you didn't know 🙄)...and even in this entirely impossible hypothetical situation she's added the caveat that everyone will return after a short time.
What are you getting from derailing OPs lighthearted chat with your petty nonsense?

Anyway OP this sounds like a nightmare to me and I'd be terrified 🤣

'Not having ID checked at the supermarket' doesn't really seem a worthwhile reason to fantasise about eradicating all humans except myself, tbh.

Where are you getting the idea that OP wants all of the rest of humankind eradicated? They have said it is only for a few weeks.

I even asked how they would know it is temporary and that they are the only one for sure.

Are the people who came up with the same idea for the several films/series/books other people have mentioned sociopaths too?

You know you could have just scrolled on by, or added some fun discussion to the thread instead of accusing the OP of having some sort of mental issue.

Sarahcoggles · 26/12/2022 23:06

It actually unnerves me that there are people walking around who want me to disappear. Not because they don't like me - they don't even know me - but just because I occupy space and take up oxygen, and they want it all for themselves. They want my kids to disappear too. And their own kids. It's just too weird to get my head around.

Because you're an introvert, not a psychopath.

Cringe. Why are you taking it so seriously?

NIparty · 26/12/2022 23:07

This is my worst nightmare. What if I crashed my car on the M1 or had a heart attack. There'd be no-one to ring an ambulance, and no ambulance to come and no hospital to bring me to 😫

ChampagneCommunist · 26/12/2022 23:07

I'd be at New Scotland Yard rummaging through the 'closed for 30 years' /secret files.

I know at least one name on that list.

I'd wander round Windsor Castle then I'd go to MI5 and look through all of their files too.

Then, when everyone came back, I'd drip feed my 'knowledge' onto MN!

This sounds like an excellent plan!

The whole scenario sounds fabulous. I will be using my time off to have some wonderful daydreams

DidYaMeanChapsWilly · 26/12/2022 23:05

No, I just disagree with you ☺️

It's not funny or lighthearted. It's really horrible.

With a side order of kind of pathetic - oh yes, I'll kill off every other human being so I can nick some booze from tesco and not get stuck in traffic. Right.

I was answering a different poster who was confused by your suggestion that introverts want all other humans to disappear from the face of the earth.

WunWun · 26/12/2022 23:10

BloodAndFire · 26/12/2022 23:09

Why are you not?

Because it's a fucking stupid light-hearted thread about a situation that would never happen and there's literally nothing whatsoever about it that needs to be taken seriously?

HarlanPepper · 26/12/2022 23:10

It sounds very similar to a nightmare I had when I was 5 or 6, that I can still vividly remember, except everyone hadn't disappeared, they had just turned into lifeless cardboard cut outs of themselves.

Are you always this tense? 😂
Nobody is being killed off, they’re all alive and well and will be returning in a few weeks.

Oh, and I don’t drink. It’s the idea of nicking endless bags of Doritos that excites me …

OP posts:
PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 26/12/2022 23:11

Yes, I do, often!

OvaryActions · 26/12/2022 23:11

It kind of reminds me of that old kids show 'Bernard's watch' ...man the things I would do with that 😂 this is much preferable to me as you can still see everyone and they will go back to normal when you press the button!

Those books, films and TV series are all dystopian fiction.

dystopian specifically, because it's taken for granted that no human being would ever want to be in this situation.

Actively wishing for it is kind of the opposite to what all of those writers were doing.

Sarahcoggles · 26/12/2022 23:12

I think the reason a couple of us are taking this seriously is because it's actually very very strange to think that there are people among us who genuinely think this would be good. It's a scenario that most people would find terrifying, and learning that others have a completely different view of the world is unnerving, when that view involves their desire to rid the world of everyone but themselves.

WunWun · 26/12/2022 23:12

And you've purposefully invented the killing part to fit your weird "sociopath" theory

Caraoke · 26/12/2022 23:12

Similar, but I don't wish they'd all gone but that they were all frozen, like the mannequin challenge from a few years ago!

I'm allowed to respond to it however I want to. As are you.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 26/12/2022 23:13

There's a short story by Arthur C Clarke, 'The Forgotten Enemy' where someone finds themselves in this position, although the circumstances are such that he can't really enjoy it very much.

namechange5575 · 26/12/2022 23:13

Goodness me, @BloodAndFire Imagination, the ability to mentally place ourselves in another person's shoes, or in another context that we have not experienced, and observe the feelings and thoughts that they evokes, is usually held to be a beautiful creative aspect of humanity, and celebrated.

You may also want to read up on Thought-Action fusion. 'Thought-action fusion is one cognitive distortion common to people with OCD. Thought-action fusion is the belief that thinking about a negative or immoral action is equally as bad as actually committing the action itself. This is sometimes called moral thought-action fusion.'

I am sorry that you find OP's daydreaming so distressing though.
