How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was planning to do the Christmas shop on Thursday but now thinking it will be packed, wondering whether to get it all tomorrow and be done with it…but, how do you stop yourself tucking into it?
I know that if I know that boxes or Heroes, crisps, crackers, cheese etc is there…I’ll probably start eating a bit each night 😬
Or is that just me?
Should I do it on Thursday to avoid this?
Also, not just me…Dd, 4, will go to the fridge and eat bits and Dh def will too!

I did mine yesterday... The cheese and prosciutto is calling my name from the fridge as I type.

mynameiscalypso · 18/12/2022 18:49

Isn't that the whole beauty of the week before Christmas? We certainly don't save things for any day in particular. Nibbling on a big chocolate selection box right now.

Laiste · 18/12/2022 18:51

I'm sitting here, as i type, resolutely NOT eating all the xmas stuff .............. 😳

i ate the pate yesterday and replaced it today

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 18/12/2022 18:51

I have treats for the week leading up to xmas and treats for xmas day itself.

It's the last week of a VERY long year at work so I need some nice treats to look forward to, to get me through the days.

SilverGlassHare · 18/12/2022 18:51

i find it very easy to compartmentalise so I just think ‘That’s for Xmas’ and don’t touch it. Not particularly useful, I know. It’s like there’s a mental STOP sign over the Christmas goodies when I think about eating them.

GreenLeavesRustling · 18/12/2022 18:52

Eat it!
for a week or so, indulge in yummy stuff.
and don’t feel bad about it

There's 7 of us in our house.

If i gave the green light to go in the fridge now it'd all be gone by Tuesday at the latest 😂

KatyClair · 18/12/2022 18:53

Erm just don’t eat it!

WhichWitchIsTheWitch · 18/12/2022 18:54

Put stuff for specific meals in bags. Everything else- the great stuff- crack it open. It is Christmas!

Glitterandcard · 18/12/2022 18:54

I don’t buy special “just for Christmas Day” food, bar the dinner itself, so am happy eating festive themed cheese etc before Christmas. Anything very specific like the chocolate Santas for children’s stockings goes in a cupboard upstairs, out of sight and mind.

WhichWitchIsTheWitch · 18/12/2022 18:54

Treat not great but great also

Always4Brenner · 18/12/2022 18:55

Have a box for Christmas nibble will start 21st with mince pies the treelets Christmas Eve chocs the same the Christmas ones,

LadyKenya · 18/12/2022 18:55

Self control for me. I just put it away and leave it for when it is needed.

Boooooot · 18/12/2022 18:55

It’s so weird because since starting my new medication my binge eating disorder has completely vanished. Usually I literally eat Christmas food all December, sometimes from late November but I haven’t touched anything yet this year! House is full of all the Christmas bits now as we’re hosting this year. It’s been a bizzare turn for me!

IntentionalError · 18/12/2022 18:56

The pork pie is sitting in the fridge, winking at me coquettishly every time I open the door…

Shlomping1234 · 18/12/2022 18:56

I've hidden loads of biscuits and chocolates under my bed in the hope that it'll last until Christmas...
This fat fucker by here suddenly has the munchies when in bed reading! I've had to sneak the wrappers downstairs without the kids judging me 🤣

This happened to me when on Topamax!

Because if you start eating it, you just have to replace it or have nothing for Christmas!!

Have you really got such little willpower? Comes across as quite greedy.

Reminds me of this

How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️
VladmirsPoutine · 18/12/2022 18:57

Why not buy a bit more to account for eating extra stuff and see where you are on Friday wrt anything needing topping up. I think the entire month is one for full indulgence so have at it.

musicandpassion · 18/12/2022 18:57

We have a fridge in the garage where everything goes and it's absolutely freezing and far too cold to go and get anything 🥶

SomethingOriginal2 · 18/12/2022 18:59

You just buy enough so you can

pelargoniums · 18/12/2022 19:00

Christmas pantry! I’ve cleared shelves that are specifically for Christmas food and it’s all stashed there. Psychologically having it grouped together separately makes it harder to touch. But then I have made up rules, eg “mince pies are fair game throughout December, obviously” and “but I am 100 weeks pregnant, I need this 3am spicy cashew snack” and “Quality Street don’t count, I’m getting into the spirit”.

So basically easing myself in gently, the way you would warm up and train before a marathon. You can’t just wake up on Christmas Eve and go hog wild: you need to gradually adapt. A fancy cheese here; a florentine there.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 18/12/2022 19:00

I eat three normal meals a day and it takes away the urge to snack.

I don’t buy loads of extra food really - no crisps, nuts, chocolate, mince pies, stollen etc. Tend to just get a few blocks of different cheese from Neals Yard delivered.

fancyacuppatea · 18/12/2022 19:00

I bought 3 boxes of mince pies...there's 4 left (I think)
I also bought 6 tubs of QS...there's 2 and a bit left.
The Baileys is unopened, DH has wine, I need more beer.🥴

I tried hiding them in the garage, but unfortunately...erm...I knew where I'd hidden them. Rookie error.🤦‍♀️
