How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was planning to do the Christmas shop on Thursday but now thinking it will be packed, wondering whether to get it all tomorrow and be done with it…but, how do you stop yourself tucking into it?
I know that if I know that boxes or Heroes, crisps, crackers, cheese etc is there…I’ll probably start eating a bit each night 😬
Or is that just me?
Should I do it on Thursday to avoid this?
Also, not just me…Dd, 4, will go to the fridge and eat bits and Dh def will too!

We just eat whatever we want. If I fancy something I'll have it, better to spread it out a bit, not eat food only allowed on a couple of days.
It's like 'saving clothes for best'.

DeadbeatYoda · 18/12/2022 19:00

@Willowswood 'comes across as quite greedy'? What sanctimonious crap, there was no reason to write that except to make another person feel bad. How sad.

Dailymash · 18/12/2022 19:01

I would say “just don’t eat it” but then also think what is it all being saved for? Hoarding a load of food to consume after a certain date just ramen you have to eat the lot in a shorter space of time. By New Year most people are sick of eating loads of rich food and sugar. So just start earlier and spread the load over more days. It’s not illegal to start eating fruity cheese and Heroes, washed down with a glass of Baileys before Christmas 🤷‍♀️

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 19:01

@Willowswood 🙄 I can likely hide chocolates, crisps, crackers etc from everyone and not touch it. But things like cheeses, pork pies and all the lovely nibbly bits will have to go in the fridge…they’ll just get demolished by Dd and Dh
I save it all for a nice Xmas Eve meal and chocs etc, Christmas Day meal and then my fave…the cheese and crackers. I can’t afford to get doubles of everything. Should I just leave it until Thursday and face the crowds 🤔 scared they’ll be nothing left!

Eat it!
for a week or so, indulge in yummy stuff.
and don’t feel bad about it

This.
Eat it and enjoy it.

fancyacuppatea · 18/12/2022 19:02

So basically easing myself in gently, the way you would warm up and train before a marathon.

I need to remember this excuse for next time DH wants a cheesy ball. 😉

CirreltheSquirrel · 18/12/2022 19:02

We always go to family for Christmas itself so the week or two either side are for eating the Christmas things that we want to eat. We work them into normal meals rather than snacking for weeks on end though!

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 19:03

@Dailymash Its not, but then I’ll have none for Xmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day..which is when I’d ideally want us to have it

I put things like crisps, crackers, chocolates etc under the bed. Anything that needs to go in the fridge/freezer, we have a second one in the garage so I put it all in there. Out of sight, out of mind! Doesn’t always work when I do the same with wine 🙊

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 19:03

@fancyacuppatea What’s a cheesy ball? 🤔

Oysterbabe · 18/12/2022 19:04

Buy double the quantity.

Dailymash · 18/12/2022 19:04

@Itsonlyaweekaway Maybe look at what you’ve got, identify what you want to keep for the three days… and the rest is free to eat!

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 19:05

@Oysterbabe Will cost me a fortune, live abroad so my treat English foods cost loads as it is

We don’t buy any - at all! Not even Christmas booze this year. We are probably the worst Christmas parents ever.

pelargoniums · 18/12/2022 19:06

@GiltEdges Under the bed is inspired! Instead of trekking downstairs into the cold I can just reach out an arm and rummage for a midnight snack! I’d probably buy myself a Christmas grabby hand mobility thing too.

SaveMeCheezus · 18/12/2022 19:06

Self-control. We've got everything that won't go off in the next week already, it won't be touched in the meantime (there are only 2 of us in the house though).

Facecream · 18/12/2022 19:06

Oh but I drink booze - just don’t stock up for Christmas

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2022 19:08

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 19:03

@fancyacuppatea What’s a cheesy ball? 🤔

I hope they mean these things. They are great.

LolaSmiles · 18/12/2022 19:08

The year I bought lots of stuff 'for Christmas' we ended up eating snacky food for weeks afterwards.

Now I get a couple of things in the weeks running up to Christmas so the Christmas snacks haven't got the same appeal to demolish in seconds

bizzywiththefizzy · 18/12/2022 19:10

Years of practice was trained by my Mother " Don't touch that , it's for Christmas , you eat that and everyone will know they are going without 'cos of you "
So as I say you have to be trained .

Always4Brenner · 18/12/2022 19:11

My mince pies are frozen in twos I’ll start on the m on Wednesday or Thursday.

Titsywoo · 18/12/2022 19:11

I buy it all on 23rd so not much time to eat it all before xmas day. We have some heroes in the cupboard but I'm the only person who knows and I don't like chocolate 😁

AdoraBell · 18/12/2022 19:13

We demolished a tub a Quality Street a few weeks ago. I get mince pies each week. If DH knew that there are 3 boxes of mince pies, Stollen, chocolates, Christmas cake he would scoff the lot. He saw the crisps and has eaten 2 large packs. I did eat a Stollen over a week while he was away for work.

Can you make a list of what’s for Christmas Eve/Christmas day/Boxing day and agree with DH that X is available but Y is left alone?

vvvv3 · 18/12/2022 19:15

I wrapped non perishable food in Christmas paper otherwise it would be all gone by now, it's a good deterrent.

Prinnny · 18/12/2022 19:15

Catch covid 😂 I’ve not ate for a week, feel like death but buzzing with the weight loss, hoping for a return to eating all the treats service soon.
