How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was planning to do the Christmas shop on Thursday but now thinking it will be packed, wondering whether to get it all tomorrow and be done with it…but, how do you stop yourself tucking into it?
I know that if I know that boxes or Heroes, crisps, crackers, cheese etc is there…I’ll probably start eating a bit each night 😬
Or is that just me?
Should I do it on Thursday to avoid this?
Also, not just me…Dd, 4, will go to the fridge and eat bits and Dh def will too!

i find it very easy to compartmentalise so I just think ‘That’s for Xmas’ and don’t touch it. Not particularly useful, I know. It’s like there’s a mental STOP sign over the Christmas goodies when I think about eating them.

Same here
The stuff that doesn't need to be kept in the fridge is in a plastic crate so easy to avoid

justasking111 · 18/12/2022 22:13

Perishable in fridge in garage. Rest in spare room wardrobe. OH would tear into it. He picked up a bag of honey roasted peanuts two days ago, they're gone 😂😂

meetmynewusername · 18/12/2022 22:14

Don’t fight it, buy two of the most tempting stuff 😁

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 18/12/2022 22:18

I've just had a second mince pie today (one was from a cafe so it doesn't count!) and washing it down with a glass of newly opened mead. I blame DH, I never used to like the bloody mince pies and he got me on them😆The festive nuts have been copping it for a while now. However the christmas cheese and after eights remain unopened. We don't go in for big tubs of xmas chocolate so don't have to worry about that, we just usually end up buying each other mini packs from hotel chocolat as presents from DC - so by default not eaten until Christmas!

This is one thing I can recommend ADHD for. If I put it away, I forget about it. DH too!

I have ADHD and if I put it away I find it again in March.

The pork pie is sitting in the fridge, winking at me coquettishly every time I open the door…

😂😂😂

pelargoniums · 18/12/2022 22:30

All this “it’s in the attic” is worrying me: is no one else’s attic a forbidding and scary place full of dust and cobwebs and monsters?

Zimtsterne · 18/12/2022 22:34

Yes, like others, I don't eat them because they're for Christmas.

I've been buying treats and stashing them away for a while now. Special chocolates and biscuits and my favourite maple brazils. I'd only be spoiling it for myself if I ate them early. They're special because they're for Christmas! I finish work on Tuesday for the festive period, so that's the date I've got in my head for being allowed to start these things.

The kids are allowed stollen and mince pies throughout December, though!

Fridge stuff I'll be buying this week, but I can say to DH and the kids not to eat X or Y and they won't.

crossstitchingnana · 18/12/2022 22:39

I start buying sweets, chocs and wine etc from October to spread the cost. I have never started on it until Christmas Eve. Have some will power!!

lurkinglittleladybug · 18/12/2022 22:53

We have eaten all the Christmas chocolates already 😳

Prinnny · 18/12/2022 19:15

Catch covid 😂 I’ve not ate for a week, feel like death but buzzing with the weight loss, hoping for a return to eating all the treats service soon.

We’ve had it at the same time 👊. I’m getting back to enjoying food round about now, and looking forward to some treats. God it feels good. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hollyhobbi · 18/12/2022 23:02

I ate a whole selection box yesterday. Only a small one as they were 3 for €5 and my two dds will have the others in their stockings!

Self control for me. I just put it away and leave it for when it is needed.

How superior of you. 🙄

Oh come on now, why be so snidey?

@LadyKenya is simply answering the OP's question. Or is the only acceptable answer "I just can't control myself"?

FFS.

Daffodilis · 18/12/2022 23:51

I unfortunately have lost my appetite, bit worried I'm not going to want to eat even over Christmas atm

I took it as a light hearted thread. That response was was not. You’re calling ME “Snidey” 🤷‍♀️

That pretty much describes me. Although I don't buy in sweets and chocolate for Christmas as there will be some among the presents. We have a lovely baking brie and a Stilton in in the fridge calling out to me and some interesting looking savoury snacks.

RampantIvy · 19/12/2022 00:30

I tell a lie. I have just remembered I bought some Tesco mini mince pies today and we have started them. Although the intention was to start them now anyway.

Shereturnsforonemore · 19/12/2022 00:58

You can share how not to with my dickhead husband who has fucking ate some Christmas stuff. Fucking prick

Boooooot · 19/12/2022 06:07

@AmIbeingTreasonable sertraline :)

Daydreamer22 · 19/12/2022 06:12

We don’t buy loads …. I’m working most of it including Christmas day eve and day.So no point. My partner will see friends and his family while I’m at work so won’t always be home. We’ve a bag of some basics and treats, some cheese too. The meal food hasn’t been bought yet! That’s about it. To be honest it’s for Christmas so I don’t need to eat it yet! Not huge snackers I guess

On my two days off I’ll be indulging tho!!

Athenen0ctua · 19/12/2022 06:31

I've just always told DS 16 that anything we don't normally get is for Christmas and not to eat it. He knows what food is for lunches, and what food is for dinners, it's the same principle.

Athenen0ctua · 19/12/2022 06:34

We have already had some lebkuchen as 'for now' Christmas food earlier in the month so don't feel deprived.

MuggleMe · 19/12/2022 08:55

Could you put the Xmas fridge stuff in a cardboard box and tape it shut before it goes in the fridge?

RampantIvy · 19/12/2022 09:58

It's funny how some of us can compartmentalise foods for special occasions and some can't. I'm the same at Easter. Easter eggs are for Easter Sunday and not before. It probably helps that I'm not fussed about chocolate.

I'm not in the habit of evening snacking because we usually eat at 6.30 (DH needs to take medication an hour before mealtimes and can't eat late so mealtimes are pretty much fixed in our house). I find that the evening meal, which is our main meal, means I don't feel hungry or want to snack.
