How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was planning to do the Christmas shop on Thursday but now thinking it will be packed, wondering whether to get it all tomorrow and be done with it…but, how do you stop yourself tucking into it?
I know that if I know that boxes or Heroes, crisps, crackers, cheese etc is there…I’ll probably start eating a bit each night 😬
Or is that just me?
Should I do it on Thursday to avoid this?
Also, not just me…Dd, 4, will go to the fridge and eat bits and Dh def will too!

I have zero willpower or self-control in this respect.

I’m going away with family for a few nights tomorrow and bought some festive treats to take, but have already had to replace some, and will have to buy more replacements when I get there……. it’s just what you do isn’t it!

Oh do pipe down. Are you one of those competitive undereaters who "couldn't possibly eat a WHOLE salad"

I'm with you OP crisps are my vice and all the flavours, bar the mince pie flavour crisps have been tried and tested....repeatedly.

I imagine the PP simply has an understanding of good health, moderation and an understanding of delayed gratification. Y’know, actual adulting. Why on earth should she pipe down? WTF has willpower got to do with salad. being able to control yourself is a good thing.

Notplayingball · 18/12/2022 20:19

Al our J2Os and Shloer was rammed up the loft after buying from shops as the DC would be right in about it. There would be nothing left by Christmas Day! It will come out the loft on Christmas Eve...

It's meant to be a lighthearted thread about the temptations of Christmas food - why do people have to take it all so seriously?!🙄

FinallyHere · 18/12/2022 20:22

Grew up abroad, so many of my Christmas treats are not easy to replenish. It also means that I have had a secret stash (behind the sofa in the living room, as it happens.) ordered in plenty of time.

If I eat them, they will be all gone and there will be none of the extra special treats for Christmas.

It's an important part of making Christmas special for me. Look forward to it all year. Don't usually eat 'sweet stuff' because sugar is my alcohol... I really struggle to eat moderately so usually eat quite healthily but for Christmas Day all constraints are life's. Christmas has never been more exciting.

I’m not taking the thread as seriously as I do the relatively aggressive people who feel it’s okay to tell other posters to ‘pipe down’.
I find rudeness irritating.

The pork pie is sitting in the fridge, winking at me coquettishly every time I open the door…

😆

This is affecting the OP to the point where she actually feels unable to shop at a time that suits her much better.

That's not 'lighthearted' when food issues dictate something like that.

If this was alcohol that she felt unable to have in the house before Thursday, I'm sure some attitudes here would be very different.

I'm sitting here, as i type, resolutely NOT eating all the xmas stuff .............. 😳

i ate the pate yesterday and replaced it today

Just adding pate to my shopping list . . .

SquirrelFan · 18/12/2022 20:44

Hide the refrigerated stuff under bags of apples and clementines in the bottom drawer of the fridge. Then a) no-one else will see and eat them b) there will be ready-to-eat healthy snacks to act as a circuit breaker for you. Might work!

Itsonlyaweekaway · 18/12/2022 20:44

@BagOfBollocks Are you actually serious?!! Ffs.

I've explained the reasons…live abroad..English treats cost a fortune, once I’ve got them, don’t want to tuck in as I can’t get more. Cheeses etc can’t be hidden away and will likely get tested by Dh and Dd if they’re there…and yes I may have a little helping as cheese is my thing…! So shoot me! I have don’t have any food issues or addictions…I think you might have some issues though!

@SquirrelFan Thats an idea, Dh doesn’t tend to find hidden stuff and Dd I obviously have control over so she can’t go there 😂

We don’t buy any - at all! Not even Christmas booze this year. We are probably the worst Christmas parents ever.

That sounds so……joyless.

But then you’ve fucked your apples and clementines by putting them in the fridge?!

Mol1628 · 18/12/2022 21:03

Now schools have broken up it’s Christmas for us. We have been watching Christmas films with the lights on, candles on and having a few nice bits to eat. This is all part of the enjoyment of Christmas, it’s more than a couple of days.

It’s so weird because since starting my new medication my binge eating disorder has completely vanished. Usually I literally eat Christmas food all December, sometimes from late November but I haven’t touched anything yet this year! House is full of all the Christmas bits now as we’re hosting this year. It’s been a bizzare turn for me!

Would love to know what medication has this side effect please?

Of course it's lighthearted, she's said as much!

Honestly, some people need to stop taking life so seriously.

Mittens1717 · 18/12/2022 21:29

Ours is in the attic, but it's coming down on Friday, I have had a few sneaky pieces of stollen this weekend though..

You are literally posting about a food issue here?

Why would you need to hide food away even if you could, if you don't have an issue that means you can't shop on a day that you want to?

And as for the 4 year old, what's wrong with "Sorry no, you have to wait a few days until Christmas"?

Baconand · 18/12/2022 22:00

DH would eat it all.
Fortunately I have willpower and hide it all. We have had some things for 2 months.
But none of the Xmas stuff goes in the kitchen until we finish work for the year. Then it’s game on!

JustMeAndAria · 18/12/2022 22:09

My Christmas cupboard has been building for weeks my freezers are full also, I can afford to buy it once not twice that is what stops me eating it before hand and the family just accept that that is the way it is as well
