How do you not eat all the Christmas stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was planning to do the Christmas shop on Thursday but now thinking it will be packed, wondering whether to get it all tomorrow and be done with it…but, how do you stop yourself tucking into it?
I know that if I know that boxes or Heroes, crisps, crackers, cheese etc is there…I’ll probably start eating a bit each night 😬
Or is that just me?
Should I do it on Thursday to avoid this?
Also, not just me…Dd, 4, will go to the fridge and eat bits and Dh def will too!

I’d rather start on the goodies this week than have stuff left over into New Year. The odd bit of cake and chocolate here and there is nice and we cracked open the pickled onions at the weekend !

AnchorWHAT · 19/12/2022 13:02

The family know better than to touch anything in bags on the top shelf of the fridge as it is for XMAS no one dares the wrath of she who organises XMAS 🧑🏻‍🎄

AuntieMarys · 19/12/2022 13:10

I've had the Xmas cupboard full for 6 weeks. Nothing has been touched.
However we start eating it from Wednesday

BirdyWoof · 19/12/2022 13:10

For me personally I like to have a couple of nicer bits in the run up to Christmas. The reason being over the last few years I’d been fairly strict on things being kept “for Christmas”, and then Christmas came and went and everyone pigged out on chocolate and the Christmas dinner. Meaning everything else that was “nice” was just left untouched.

I’d rather have some chocolate this week, nice bits on Christmas Eve, and then still have a decent choice for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

I can absolutely save things for Christmas, but if I’m in the mood for something and my partner is as well, why not have it? Christmas is once a year but it doesn’t mean the rest of the year you can’t have anything “nice”.

RampantIvy · 19/12/2022 13:17

That sounds exactly how we do it @BirdyWoof.

We don't buy tubs of chocolates because we don't like them and don't generally pig out on chocolate anyway, but eating mince pies (I have just eaten another one) and starting the cake before Christmas makes sense to me.

Ha ha , this is so me. I’ve already eaten the St Agur and have cooked one packet of part bake rolls. Also cooked three packets of frozen party food. Also opened selection boxes to eat the chocolate then put the individual bars into the kids packed lunch boxes etc 🤣 I am a nightmare for this … if the stuffs there it gets used or eaten , I’ll need to go buy more stuff this week.

Part baked rolls - must put them on my delivery list - thanks for the idea!!

I wish I could indulge on cheese and crackers, but where the hell do I find them? None in my Lidl and Asda. It's crazy. Where did you buy plain crackers? Is there national shortage or something?

No crackers? Ok, now I'm panicking!!

I hope they mean these things. They are great.

My DP ate the whole tub of these last night 🙄

How big is your fridge 😐

We have a regular sized fridge-freezer, about 50cm wide and could fit a box or bag of food. We have the shelves up high to fit a kilner jar of sauerkraut, which I've just finished, so could put Christmas food there now if I wanted.

Natsku · 19/12/2022 13:50

I have a cupboard in the playroom that's high up just below the ceiling (which is weird, its built into the wall, not something I would think of putting in but it is useful) that becomes the Christmas cupboard this time of the year. I put all the booze, chocolates, nice snacks etc. up there and it gets left alone because its such a hassle to get into (have to move a chair over there to stand on) and its out of sight out of mind as can only see it if you're in the playroom looking up.

The fridge stuff was bought on Saturday and I've told OH he's not to touch any of the Christmas food, and the children don't help themselves to food so that's not an issue.

I'm just curious is all. I know there's huge chest freezers but I've never seen a fridge that could hold a cardboard box of food. Maybe I've had a sheltered life.

Had to try it. Normal shelf arrangement for us.

We’ve had it at the same time 👊. I’m getting back to enjoying food round about now, and looking forward to some treats. God it feels good. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Aw thank you! The cheese and wine is just sat staring me demanding to be opened 😂

Sorry 😬But I swear to God, the only ones were Jacob's selection, which won't be enough and they're quite pricey. I wanted some plain crackers, possibly supermarket brand and there are none. Jacob's ones aren't there too. I love Jacob's wholegrain and haven't seen them in past 2 or 3 weeks. Maybe it's just where I live? I will check in Sainsbury's and Morrison tonight.

stayathomer · 19/12/2022 15:24

Only have Christmas Day and stephen’s day off so yesterday had a mini Christmas and today I feel so sick I think I’ll never eat Christmas food again!!! I wouldn’t recommend it!!!

There is a strike at the Jacob's factory in Liverpool .

Which is why I'm not digging in. Too much to do still

onmywayamarillo · 19/12/2022 15:44

You can't eat it all in 1 day so eat it over the Christmas period and then Boxing Day to new year is leftovers of delight!

This week is the week of gluttony 😀😀😀😀

I've got the Christmas food in a Tesco bag in the fridge. The bag protects it from invasion Xmas Grin

But then you’ve fucked your apples and clementines by putting them in the fridge?!

What? They're much more delicious icy cold (and the apples are crispier)!
