My husband is absolutely convinced that your average person in the Uk will not have heard of the band Crowded House. This is entirely based on the fact he can only name one song by them. Despite me listening to them on a weekly basis during 16 years I’ve been with him…
I’m equally convinced he’s wrong but I do have to admit I grew up in New Zealand and didn’t move back to the Uk until 1998 so probably fairly biased. I’m willing to concede they probably weren’t that popular here and I don’t think they had many big hits but I refuse to believe they were as unknown as he claims.
So who’s right?

Well I have.

Jap26 · 07/12/2022 19:05

I loved them!

Elsiebear90 · 07/12/2022 19:05

I think most people over the age of 30 would have heard of them, but maybe I’m biased because I also love them and have a lot of their songs.

CharityShopChic · 07/12/2022 19:05

I'm 50 and I have definitely heard of them.

Bien22 · 07/12/2022 19:05

Love them! Went to a few concerts.

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2022 19:05

Ah Four Seasons in one day was one of my favourites.

tattychicken · 07/12/2022 19:06

Loved them, bought all their albums, v popular here in the 90s.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/12/2022 19:06

I couldn't name their songs but I've heard of them.

Plump82 · 07/12/2022 19:06

My best memory of a summer off school is singing Crowded House songs with all the kids in the street. I remember it being so hot and we were allowed out for ages.
I think it comes down to what age you are and also what kind of music your parents were into? I'm 41 and my dad liked them. I still enjoy them now.

Leemoe · 07/12/2022 19:06

I love them. They were literally the soundtrack to my childhood as my mum had the albums and played them in the car.

NatalieIsFreezing · 07/12/2022 19:06

Their "Best Of" had a tv ad that said "you know more Crowded House songs than you think!" then proceeding to play Weather With You etc (the etc indicates I can't think of any more off the top of my head, except Distant Sun, which is brill).

NotSorry · 07/12/2022 19:06

yep, love them - Neil Finn played with Fleetwood Mac when I saw them in 2019 - he was brilliant

springlike · 07/12/2022 19:06

One of my favourite albums is Woodface by CH. Saw then once too. I would say loads of people would know exactly who they are and would know quite a few songs if they heard them.

Needmorelego · 07/12/2022 19:06

"4 Seasons In One Day"
I used to like them. Had several albums. One went solo or started a different band. I had at least one album of the solo/other band - don't know if there was more than one released.

naemates · 07/12/2022 19:06

I could only name 'don't dream it's over' but looking it up, I also know 'weather with you'.
In Scotland if it's important to your data collection!

Timeforachangeisitnot · 07/12/2022 19:06

Still love listening to Crowded House, and I do it fairly frequently . Great band.
I am old however.

MenaiMna · 07/12/2022 19:07

I've seen them twice in the UK and 3 times in Canada. They are a perennial favourite. He just wasnt paying attention! Ask him if he's heard of Split Enz!

WhoWants2Know · 07/12/2022 19:07

Of course! They did a lovely zoom version of Don't Dream It's Over during lockdown

Beamur · 07/12/2022 19:07

It's more to do with your age than nationality. Ask someone late 40's to early 50's and there's a very good chance they will know. Ask my teen DD, not unless they've had a tiktok revival.

Zippea · 07/12/2022 19:07

I don’t think that’s true, I love Crowded House - even my elderly Dad knows who they are!

It might well be a case that people love one of their songs and not know the band name but I do think they are pretty well known in the 30+ age group

Nordstrom · 07/12/2022 19:07

I love them and have seen them live (in the UK)

GlumShoe · 07/12/2022 19:08

My brother had the cd, I think it was called Woodface? Weather With You always reminds me of hearing it from his room in the summer when I was young.

SNWannabe · 07/12/2022 19:08

I do...but id say those under 40 won't

ditalini · 07/12/2022 19:08

I loved them! I think it depends how old you are - they were v big in the UK in the early-mid 90s.

Now I'm going to have to go and listen to Woodface.

DurhamDurham · 07/12/2022 19:08

I'm 52 and they're on my Spotify playlist, enjoyed their music for years.
