My husband is absolutely convinced that your average person in the Uk will not have heard of the band Crowded House. This is entirely based on the fact he can only name one song by them. Despite me listening to them on a weekly basis during 16 years I’ve been with him…
I’m equally convinced he’s wrong but I do have to admit I grew up in New Zealand and didn’t move back to the Uk until 1998 so probably fairly biased. I’m willing to concede they probably weren’t that popular here and I don’t think they had many big hits but I refuse to believe they were as unknown as he claims.
So who’s right?

They’ve been well known for well over 2 decades in this country.

Choconut · 07/12/2022 19:38

Fall at your feet is my fave song of theirs.

StiggyZardust · 07/12/2022 19:38

I've heard of them and see them every time they come to this country.

CraigDavid · 07/12/2022 19:38

They were huge here! The album Woodface in particular did well if I remember correctly

Snugglepiggy · 07/12/2022 19:39

In my 60s and I certainly know them and regularly listen to them on Spotify.

KateBalesCardi · 07/12/2022 19:39

I've heard of them and would say they were pretty popular back in the day, I'm late 40's as is DH and he knows of them too. I wasn't/am still not particularly a fan but do quite like Distant Sun, anyway you're right and he's wrong OP Smile

Bluesheep8 · 07/12/2022 19:39

I'd actually be really surprised if I met someone over 35 who hadn't heard of them tbh

Ricco12 · 07/12/2022 19:39

Yes I've heard of them

CloudPop · 07/12/2022 19:40

Yes heard of them and know many of their songs

SeahorseBlue · 07/12/2022 19:40

I was a fan as a child and still listen to them occasionally now, I'm early 40's, so I think he is wrong!

GrammarTeacher · 07/12/2022 19:40

I LOVE Crowded House!

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/12/2022 19:40

I agree that most people over the age of 40 in the UK will have heard of them. I have a 'best of' album somewhere ...

SickOfChristmasExpectations · 07/12/2022 19:40

Your DH is wrong. They were a massive band here in the UK and had loads of hits. I have seen them twice in concert.

AuntieEntity · 07/12/2022 19:41

I've heard of them - know a few songs, but not many! Decent band.

Littlepaws18 · 07/12/2022 19:41

Awesome band, band of my youth!

Justcallmebebes · 07/12/2022 19:42

Mid 50's. I've heard of them

pointythings · 07/12/2022 19:42

I still listen to 'Woodface' regularly. Am 54.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 07/12/2022 19:42

Love Crowded House ❤ My husband is also a fan.

FastnetLundyRockall · 07/12/2022 19:43

Of course, they were big enough to play Glastonbury in 2008 and this year (I think)

FTHC · 07/12/2022 19:43

Nearly 40 and definitely have. Don't Dream it's Over and Fall at your feet are great songs.

vitahelp · 07/12/2022 19:43

36 and never heard of them. Will have a listen later!

VestaTilley · 07/12/2022 19:44

Don’t Dream It’s Over is one of my most favourite songs. Your DH is being VU.

Welshdavee · 07/12/2022 19:44

early 50’s here and had a couple of their albums. Think if you’re of a certain age you will def know the band and a handful of their songs

BogRollBOGOF · 07/12/2022 19:45
