Tony’s chocolate

What do you all think of it?

Tried it for the first time today and it tastes of nothing. You can taste the filling (we had a pretzel flavour) but couldn’t taste the chocolate at all. And why is it no in squares?! It’s so difficult to break apart and eat!

aibu? This is chocolate is weird!!

I don't see how it can be 'all PR' when there's people on the thread who say they like it.

TMC32 · 29/11/2022 18:44

Absolutely love it! Yellow one is the best!

Why ignore that the vast majority don't like it?

Not ignoring anything just acknowledging that some people like it.
(Im not sure that this thread on MN is indicative of the wider population either, it seems to be selling)

RoyKeaneisRight · 29/11/2022 19:55

I like it 🤷‍♀️
Have only had it a couple of times, but I liked it. Of course, my current favourite is Lidl hazelnut milk chocolate so I may not have the most sophisticated chocolate palate.

A huge part of it is PR though as several of the posters who said they like it on this thread have said part of that is the good intentions behind it.

If it wasn't for the story and 'good' aspect of the chocolate I doubt it would have taken off based on its taste alone.

Boooooot · 29/11/2022 20:29

To be fair to Tony’s! I tried the milk hazelnut and it’s actually quite nice.

“This is fucking hanging” to my husband obviously means “please buy me more” as he turned up with another bar yesterday but it was good.

I like Tony's, abit overpriced but nice as a treat!

JenniferBooth · 29/11/2022 23:53

Has anyone on here tried the Tonys gingerbread one.

BobDear · 30/11/2022 00:02

Foul. It's like eating cooking chocolate.

Much prefer
Ritter Sport
Lindt with hazelnuts
Milka with almond
Green and Blacks Maya Gold

Yes, I like Chocolonely, I think it tastes nice. I was wondering if @thehorsehasnowbolted had any recommendations but having seen them I'm sticking with it, I'm afraid.

You weren't "wondering" you accused her of not having taste as a priority! You clearly already thought her choices would be shit.

i tried Chocolonely and found it tasteless, as have many others on the thread. Thus my lighthearted response to you claiming the other poster didn't prioritise taste.

ThatshallotBaby · 30/11/2022 08:26

13 yo ds who is the fussiest person ever eats my Tony’s. He has got some in his stocking that I will nick.

Your response was anything but lighthearted.

Not sure why everyone is picking on @Sparklingbrook

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2022 09:05

Blimey @SoupDragon what have I done to hurt you? Confused

@Boooooot

'This is fucking hanging”

I believe this was Albert Pierrepoint's catchphrase, to lighten the moment. as he pulled the lever.

Re Suchard Milka, I loved buying that on camping holidays in Europe as a child in the 70s and 80s, but had a bar recently and they obviously have changed the recipe - know Suchard was bought by one of the big companies - and it’s bland and sweet.

NegroniLover · 30/11/2022 13:40

I love Tony's!
I can't stand Milka, its not even chocolate, it's pale brown sugar!
Cadbury's is waxy and greasy, it's lost the 'snap' when you break it
Lindt is ok but too rich after a small amount
Hotel Chocolat always seems nicer than it actually is
My favourite chocolates are Leonidas but if I'm buying a bar in the supermarket it would be Tony's, particularly the sea salt one!

thehorsehasnowbolted · 30/11/2022 18:20

Lots of products seem to go downhill when they are bought out

Sausagenbacon · 30/11/2022 18:25

I love the dark chocolate with almonds one and get round the eatability thing by breaking the whole thing up into chunks and putting it into a box the the fridge. Just take the size chunk you want.
And I like their ethics

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2022 18:56

I hope people can hide their disappointment well when getting presented with one of these tomorrow...

Feminazi53 · 30/11/2022 19:26

I like it. I think Cadbury's tastes waxy and cheap these days. Irish bars excepted. I wish they'd make it in a slimmer bar though. My teeth are in a delicate state and biting into Tony's is like playing Russian roulette.
