To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

I mean I don't do a full head to toe scrub and preen like you OP but I certainly give my bumhole and bits a daily wash.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

chickeningonup · 14/11/2022 22:30

Also - I hate showering. Hate it. But I still do it daily.

I hate getting out. I hate getting dried, moisturising, combing hair out etc. such a faff.. but I do it because I worse feel and look horrific if I didn't.

It's really a chore. I try to buy nice soap and shampoo to make it more luxurious, but it just bores me. 💤

dementedpixie · 14/11/2022 22:30

I shower daily but only wash my hair a couple of times a week. On days I'm at the gym I will shower again. My showers are only a few minutes long unless it's a hair washing day.

Dh and ds shower daily. Dd tends to be every 2 days.

I shower or bathe most days and wash my hair once a week. On the rare occasions I don't shower/bathe, I do a sink wash. I personally need to wash every day.

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:30

Yes! But if in the morning I add in the equation shower, hair dryer and screaming kids waiting to get dressed I would be sweaty in 2 mins right after my shower!

I have long, thick, curly hair… they are unmanageable on a Sunday afternoon, not a Monday morning in a rush!

You don't catch a cold from wet hair.

I shower every morning, about 4 mins, and if washing hair, which is every 2-3 days, then max ten mins but mostly less than that. I like to feel clean in the morning and the water wakes me up.

IMissVino · 14/11/2022 22:31

I shower every morning. I co-wash my hair once a week and wash it with a clarifying shampoo once a fortnight (afros have very different haircare requirements to white people’s hair - which it sounds like most of you have).

The idea of finding it ‘hard mentally and physically’ to invest 5-10 minutes a day in showering is alien to me. However, I understand that this is a common symptom of depression and/or often a manifestation of executive dysfunction, so just putting that out there.

This can't be for real.

Have you heard of a hair dryer?

Some hair types take a long time to dry with a dryer and drying with a hair dryer can be quite bad for certain hair types. I think I read the op has curly hair(?) If I'm remembering rightly then drying her hair might be more of a marathon than it is for others.

murasaki · 14/11/2022 22:33

I don't dry it, just tie it back damp and let it do its thing. Keeps the mild.curl at the bottom when I take the band out. Saves time too...

TokenGinger · 14/11/2022 22:33

I shower every day. I wash my hair once or twice a week (I have very thick curly hair which is quite dry and doesn't go greasy so doesn't need washing as often).

I really don't like leaving the house without a shower. It's just a routine I've had since school, so for the past 20 years. As soon as I wake, I have a shower for 5 minutes. Wet my body, soap it all, rinse off and finished. I just don't feel clean without having a shower.

WooWooWinnie · 14/11/2022 22:34

I shower every morning. It makes me feel more awake and ready for the day than just a wash, and sometimes I do sweat a little at night. Only a quick 5 min shower though. I’m not shaving my legs or washing my hair every day - that happens about every 3 days.

Vikinga · 14/11/2022 22:34

Just read your other posts. My daily showers/baths are mostly very quick..a few mins each. When I wash my hair it takes longer. Shaving is quick too

I have adhd and belong to some facebook groups and gor some people with adhd or autistic washing/bathing etc is really hard.

murasaki · 14/11/2022 22:34

By which I mean i have it in a towel while I drink coffee then comb and tie back.

Northernsoullover · 14/11/2022 22:34

I don't shower every day. I know when I'm sweaty. This might mean that some days I have to shower twice if it's been hot in the office. If I wfh I don't bother.

Namechange192727171 · 14/11/2022 22:34

Colds are caused by viruses, not wet hair.

I shower everyday, i use dry shampoo so only wash my hair twice a week.

It only takes a few minutes. Once a week I have a bath instead and shave, moisturise etc.

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 22:35

You don't catch a cold from wet hair

But this idea comes from the fact that going around in winter with wet hair lowers the body temperature which can leave people more vulnerable to colds.

I really dislike the patronising tone on this thread. The op has said she's from another culture and other cultures can be as unusual to us as we are to them.

Ultimately, if the op is clean it really doesn't matter if her showering and hair washing routine is different to the majority of responders on this thread.

Then use a shower cap and don’t get your hair wet. I’m not seeing the issue.

If it’s cold, have a hot shower. You don’t need to shave and use a foot scrub every day. Hop in the shower, lather up a loofah, give yourself a scrub, rinse and jump out again. You’re clean and it takes a couple of minutes.

Put on some lotion, and that’s another minute. Unless there’s something else at play, there’s really nothing to make a fuss about.

If she’s showering once a week, she isn’t clean and it’s highly likely she smells, whatever her assertions to the contrary.

Scottishskifun · 14/11/2022 22:38

No I don't shower every day as its not good for my skin and it can become painful from drying out. I shower every 2-3 days or if I have been sweaty from sports etc.

Grim means serious or harsh. It does not mean gross.

🙄
Can also be used to mean unpleasant....

I shower every day. Anything less than every other day is pretty grim.

She's said she doesn't shower daily, she hasn't said she doesn't wash daily.

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:39

Sorry what it the difference between wash and shower?

I wash my hands many times a day if that counts?

So shower before they wake up, or after they go to bed.....

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:40

And I never have a bath! I find very environmentally unfriendly, time consuming and I am not cleaner than having a shower. Plus I would have to clean a bath tub after…
