To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

Ignore mumsnet on this issue - they seem to think anything less than a shower per hour is disgusting. I shower twice a week and have never smelled bad - and I live with people willing to be honest with me about it. They let me know during the couple of very hot weeks we get if I'm getting ripe earlier than usual.

Shower as often as you need and feel comfortable with. No one in the real world cares how clean you are unless you smell.

Craigava · 14/11/2022 22:41

I'm in my 50s and when I was growing up people didn't shower every day. The only shower we had at home was a rubber thing attached to the bath taps for hair washing. I don't remember exactly how often but I certainly didn't bath every day. We couldn't afford it. I washed thoroughly and I didn't smell. Neither did my friends.

My dear old dad had a bath once a week. He was always immaculately groomed and dressed and smelt lovely.

Perhaps with water heating being so expensive people might stop describing others who don't shower twice a day as 'grim'. They don't have to be.

Glitteratitar · 14/11/2022 22:41

Those who say you don’t need to shower every day but need a wash everyday, what’s the difference?

I assume a shower is jumping into the shower and washing yourself, whether or not you wash your hair. So what is a wash?

No wonder we have pandemics.

😂😂😂😂 yes pandemics are caused by those people who don’t shower every day

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:39

Sorry what it the difference between wash and shower?

I wash my hands many times a day if that counts?

A wash would mean you wash your intimate areas, underarms and face with warm/hot water (and soap, where appropriate).

It can be done standing next to the wash basin, or while having a bath..If in hospital with a sponge while in bed, or in a pinch while travelling with baby wipes.

BadLad · 14/11/2022 22:41

I shower every morning. Always have, since I was very young. Nothing better for waking up.

DW is from a culture that considers it disgusting to go to bed without showering, so now I shower in the evenings too. Don’t want to be kicked out of the bed. We’re I single I’d probably only shower in the morning.

I thought it was unusual to shower less than once a day until I started reading Mima net and discovered that many people apparently go for days without showering.

Poor hygiene facilitates greater transmission. Common sense

Meklk · 14/11/2022 22:42

Sorry but I'll never believe that someone who doesn't shower every day doesn't smell. Maybe you can't smell it but others definitely can.
I have very sensitive scalp, so washing my hairs twice a week. But shower for the rest of the body - every single day.

123ROLO · 14/11/2022 22:43

I shower daily as I enjoy showering and find it relaxing. I rarely feel unclean before I shower, I doubt if I skipped one or two days I'd smell. The only time I feel its absolutely necessary to shower daily is if I'm on my period.

A couple of my friends who are late 20s don't shower everyday, one just because she doesn't see the point, the other because she has skin problems and her dermatologist told her to only shower every 2-3 days. Neither of them smell

Exactly, hair washing would be done ocer the sink, too. And with the climate crisis going the way it is, this is likely to be a habit we need to bring back.

She's said she doesn't shower daily, she hasn't said she doesn't wash daily.

I’m sorry, but I have no idea what the distinction between those two things is.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 14/11/2022 22:45

Some days I wake up & feel like a shower some days I don’t, some days I’ll have a shower in the morning and a bath or shower again in the evening, I may have a bath in the middle of the day when not working. I think I have probably gone up to three days without any washing when feeling low but that’s very rare.

I shower every 3 days as a minimum and on a weekly basis as a maximum .

My hair is really dry, never oily and very curly as well. Washing them takes about 30min.

Then when I shower I shave legs etc., body scrub, heels rub and the body part takes another 15min.

Put another 15min to dress, put cream on, clean the bathroom from fallen hair etc.

In total body and hair takes me an hour!

I am very surprised when people say it takes 3mins! And in this cold and dark in the mornings is the very last thing I want to do… brrrr!

My god, the drama of it! You know you don't actually have to shave your legs, do a body scrub etc. every time you shower. Surely you can see that if you just get in, wash your face and body, and get out, you can have a shower in a few minutes?

Grim. So that explains why so many people stink on public transport.

That's true. Central line is a nightmare. Honestly, some ladies should take bloody shower instead of heavy makeup 7am in the morning.

Erm, that's it's possible to wash without doing it in the shower?

ohyouknowwhatshername · 14/11/2022 22:46

OP it's good that you wash your hands, but what about your armpits, feet, bottom and private parts? They need to be washed daily imo and the quickest way to do that is by having a shower.

AlwaysLatte · 14/11/2022 22:46

Every day all of us except for DS14 who has 2 or 3 showers a day. At least I don't have to nag him to keep clean!

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 22:46

As far as the hygiene argument goes for a full shower and top to toe daily scrub...scientists have demonstrated that we can damage our skin by being too clean. Not to mention the long term impact on immunity, which when combined with anti biotic resistant isn't great.

The concept of everyone needing showers every day to be clean is actually a bit outdated, buf people arent ready to hear it (as evidenced by this thread).

So, what would you do, exactly?

Daisydreaming1 · 14/11/2022 22:46

and those who don’t shower everyday definitely don’t wash their hands??

IMissVino · 14/11/2022 22:46

You know.... Wash your hands and face and what not.... Just not in the shower.

At the sink for example or in a bath...

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:48

Well, I don’t get into tube! I work from home or I go to the office which is 5mins away.

Especially when someone is working from home why to shower every day? I understand when someone goes to the gym, walks a lot etc. but when you are just at home and going from the sofa to the desk and back, what is the point?

I would be really unsettled and unhappy if I had to put my clothes onto an unwashed body in the morning. I can’t imagine it tbh. Even if I overslept I would have a super quick shower. I can have a shower in ten mins which always includes washing my hair every day

I also have a quick shower or bath before bed each night as well. Without fail. Who would want the grime of the day on their feet and body to be in their lovely clean sheets? I can’t believe people get into bed with a sweaty dusty body.

my DH does the same and the kids shower daily or more of they do sport.

i appreciate this will seem obsessive to some but I love it and happily have my routine.

those showering alternate days or less I just can’t fathom.

Hate showers, prefer a bath.
