To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

If I’m working from home I might not bother every day. My partner isn’t bothered and neither are my pets! If I’m leaving the house, eg to go to the office or an appointment, I always shower.

MadCattery · 14/11/2022 22:59

Shower every night, as I won’t go to bed with the dirt of the day on me. Occasional day showers, too. Wash hair every other day.

What is this obsession with showering. I grew up in the 60's nobody had showers because houses didn't have them so it was a bath and most people had 1 bath a week and I can tell you people did not smell.

My mother also grew up in the 60s and she says that people did, in fact, smell, or at least they were not as fresh as (most) people are now but it was just the norm at the time.

SunshineLoving · 14/11/2022 23:00

I shower every morning without fail. I wouldn't feel set for the day if I didn't and I would definitely have a whiff about me.

I normally shower in the evening too. If I really can't be bothered, I don't. But I do generally shower in the evening too as it helps me relax. It makes me feel clean and refreshed.

If you shower every three days, surely you are starting to smell at this point? Maybe you can't smell it but others may be able to.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2022 23:01

I didn't have a shower when I lived at home. I washed at the sink or used a hose attached to the bath taps and kneeled in the bath to wash

Oh, one of these threads.

I mean, I scrub myself from top to toe in sterilised water and bleach with wire wool...

As long as you're doing what you need to done to keep clean then you keep doing you and I'll do me.

I hope you burn your clothes afterwards too!!!

OldFan · 14/11/2022 23:01

I stink if I don't bathe/shower in the morning after sweating in the night. Maybe others are different and can get away with it, but I can't.

Hair I wash twice a week.

PeloFondo · 14/11/2022 23:02

I don't always think showering every day equals clean either, have been near people that say they shower daily but..
Its are you washing your feet properly, your belly button, your neck etc and I still think soap gets you cleaner with something like a flannel to actually get sweat off God I'm getting old

Kabbalah · 14/11/2022 23:03

Twice a day sometimes. If you’re wearing full PPE you sweat like a pig.

OldFan · 14/11/2022 23:03

Oh, one of these threads.

It does seem to come up quite a lot. Grin

ClaudineClare · 14/11/2022 23:05

All the talk about the 60s and weekly baths. Most of us didn't have central heating or double glazing either. We are now all cleaner and warmer (well maybe not so much this year!). It's called progress.

PurpleButterflyWings · 14/11/2022 23:05

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/11/2022 22:57

shared water too

FFS it's not the 1960s now! Hmm Why do people always trot out this same boring trope?! Did you walk 12 miles in the snow to school too, and share a bed with 3 siblings?! Just coz something was commonplace 60 years ago in the 1960s - that does NOT mean it has to be NOW - in 2022! Times move on, we advance, things change, and people should not be made to feel like shit, or that they are fucking 'privileged' because they have a 3-5 minute SHOWER every day! FGS! Confused

And as for the poster - @wincarwoo- who said 'oh I am glad you can AFFORD to have a shower every day!' WTAF did I just read? A shower/getting clean is a basic fucking right, and having one a day is NORMAL TO MOST PEOPLE. Coming up with snide and snarky comments like that is ludicrous and offensive!

I hope you burn your clothes afterwards too!!!

I prefer to smoke them, it's marginally better for the environment.

Kikikik · 14/11/2022 23:06

Depends on how stinky you are 🤣
My daily activities normally include mucking out horses, pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys etc so yeah I wash my hair every day then....... However when I have a break from the animals I do not shower every day!.

EXACTLY! Pretty much what I was saying!

PatientZorro · 14/11/2022 23:08

I shower every 90 minutes on the dot and make sure to give myself a vigorous rub down with sandpaper. I also add bleach to ensure I don’t spread any viruses and Zoflora for an attractive floral fragrance. Anyone who doesn’t is a grim minger and deserves a good shunning, that’ll teach em.

On a more serious note, do any of those showering twice a day ever worry about energy costs or pollutants? Or is their sandpaper all stored in reusable bottles, micro plastic free etc?

Don’t you just love the who showers most game? Such laughs!

ClaudineClare · 14/11/2022 23:08

@PurpleButterflyWings exactly. I remember sharing bathwater as a kid and it was bloody grim and I hated it. That's probably why I appreciate my daily shower so much.

BabyOnBoard90 · 14/11/2022 22:14

No wonder we have pandemics.

People not showering does not cause pandemics, don't be so ridiculous.

I both agree and disagree with you OP. There isn't any need to shower every day, daily baths/showers are still a fairly new idea in the history of humankind, and there are lots of other ways of staying clean and ensuring you do not smell other than taking a shower. If you are clean, the way you are getting clean doesn't matter, does it?

On the other hand though, it's really not a massive drama to jump in the shower every morning. It's 5 minutes.

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 23:09

It isn't offensive. Having to choose how much water you can use and/or heat is the crushing reality for many people at the moment.

You make a fair point about 1960s habits but don't dismiss how severe poverty has become for many people right now. And for those who do have to make these decisions each day, it's both distressing and a source of embarrassment or even shame, so a little sensitivity on all sides wouldn't go amiss.

MrsClaypole · 14/11/2022 23:10

These threads baffle me. It's not about being sweaty it's about washing your arse and fandango, I cannot believe anyone does not need to do that at least once a day. And if you don't shower or bathe then how how are you doing it, with a stinking flannel? 🤮

feelingfree17 · 14/11/2022 23:10

Shower every day in the morning.
Bath most nights

IMissVino · 14/11/2022 23:10

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 22:59

@IMissVino I'm sorry, I was getting wound up by some of the responses on this thread and was unreasonably short with you.

No worries. Thanks for apologising, it’s very gracious of you.

Also, I now know what a wash is. So, win win. 😊
