Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

Not really, unless it’s like a super car or something.

Theala · 11/11/2022 20:32

Not really, except for people who drive Dacia Dusters. I judge them as being incompetent drivers, as most of them are, ime. I realise that's quite oddly specific. 😉

HahBumhug · 11/11/2022 20:32

We BMW drivers are very lovely to each other on the roads 😁

CallmeAngelina · 11/11/2022 20:32

OK, I'll bite.
I drive a top-of-the-range Mercedes. There is no difference to the way other drivers react at all to when I'm driving dh's Golf.
Why would there be? It's not like it's a Bentley.

LittleMrsPerfect · 11/11/2022 20:33

Only range rovers - there is no need for a massive fuck off 4 by 4 fuel guzzler unless you live in the country or on a farm!!!

This reminds me of my grandad who beeps and waves at anyone who has the same make and colour car as him 🤣

My ex had an Aidi.. was a hand me down from his parents. We also noticed that we could get treated different on the road.

One time, we missed our exit form a motorway due to some knob pushing us out the way.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/11/2022 20:35

Not so much Audi drivers on my commute but I encounter several crap BMW drivers a week. Had one this morning tailgating because I was driving at the 60 mph speed limit and he needed to roar past at faster than that in case - I don’t know, maybe his dick would fall off otherwise or something.

milawops · 11/11/2022 20:36

I don't judge other peoples cars but I drive a BMW so I'm aware most other drivers think of me.
I do like the look of surprise I get sometimes when I let someone out of a junction, like they can't comprehend that a BMW can be driven by anyone other than a complete bellend.

milawops · 11/11/2022 20:36

*aware what most other drivers think of me.

😁

Bentleys are very common around me...footballers with big wallets and tiny brains. 🤷‍♀️

echt · 11/11/2022 20:39

I don't judge at first glance, but when a BMW driver is driving like a cunt, I am not in the least bit surprised.

I give all ute drivers a wide berth, especially at afternoon rush hour.

LBFseBrom · 11/11/2022 20:40

I no longer drive and never notice the make of cars. My husband had a land rover because he needed a 4x4 for work. My son has a BMW. If they hadn't told me I wouldn't have known.

Ponderingwindow · 11/11/2022 20:40

Yes. I used to live in an area where there were many high end car dealers so lots of test drives down our street. Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes, all perfectly normal, polite drivers and you rarely really noticed them. The BMW drivers were awful. They would speed, brake fast, not cede the right of way. I don’t know what it was about people test driving a BMW at that location, but it turned me off every buying one because i don’t want to be lumped in with them.

NumberTheory · 11/11/2022 20:41

I judge drivers by their driving. Not aware of judging by their cars but research in the US found that drivers of more expensive cars were less likely to let people merge, stop at pedestrian crossings, etc.

Yes we studied that in my psychology degree!

I wonder what it is about a BMW that attracts these sorts then.

I don't judge by what others drive, just how they drive. I once hired a car at the last minute for an emergency trip and they only had a large 4X4 available. I've never experienced so much hate on the road for no reason.

eveoha · 11/11/2022 20:43

Please don’t be judge about my VW LUPO best car I’ve ever had 👍🏿☘️

torquewench · 11/11/2022 20:44

Try riding a motorbike. Everyone thinks you want to race them especially when they're only in their mums ancient Ford Fiesta and assumes that behind the handlebars you're a young male speed freak and not a 50 something female who gets more satisfaction pootling past a line of stationary cars queueing at traffic lights and overtaking everyone that way at under 20 mph than getting everywhere at 90 mph 😉

littlepeas · 11/11/2022 20:45

I was once aggressively undertaken by a white BMW X5 (very busy dual carriageway - I was in the outside lane and about to overtake - it came up very close behind me and then dashed out and back into the tiny gap that was left between me and the car I was about to overtake). I assumed it was some dickhead (because of the car+behaviour), so flashed my lights at him - he flashed his back - they were blue (unmarked police car). Whoops!

greeandorange · 11/11/2022 20:46

Should try being a women driving a Porsche.

No bugger let's me out... and I'm really nice and a very highly trained driver I promise.

But when I'm in my sons beat up 205 I get waved out of junctions.

Blush that's funny!!

I've recently started driving an Audi as my beloved fiesta died. Anyway I had a nasty encounter when an older guy tried racing/tailgating me. I just pulled over and let him pass. Also notice a lot less people let me out.
