Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

I've noticed middle management cars BMW , Mercedes , Audi and range rovers tend to drive a bit more aggressively tail gating , no indicators etc. I've found people with the top luxury cars Porsche, Ferrari give plenty of room and don't drive like wankers nothing to prove and they don't want stone chips.

CheesenCrackersmm · 11/11/2022 22:14

The Audi drivers in my neck of the woods are absolutely second-rate - we have a million Tesla, Range Rover, Mercedes, Porsche, Maserati, no one's looking at an Audi driver! (BMW drivers on the other-hand are the same everywhere!)

Sorry to hear this peasant.

We are surrounded by Bugattis, Rolls Royces and Lamborghinis fuelled by Caviar.

Boooooot · 11/11/2022 22:16

Speaking of Teslas.

I have a weird glitch in the matrix thing with Teslas. Every one over ever seen has been driven by the same man. A blonde man in a blue shirt and tie.

So unless this same man owns at least 5 different Teslas and has been following me around for years on all my travels, then this is a weird glitch and it freaks me out.

Almost guaranteed a Prius will be driven with the situational and spatial awareness of an amoeba. Probably doing 48 in the middle lane of the M1 or stopping for green lights. Even if it doesn’t have taxi plates on I give them a wide berth, so I suppose yes I do judge. I’ve generally always had estate cars and have had BMW, Mercedes, Skoda and Ford cars and I don’t think I’ve been particularly treated differently. Estates aren’t particularly sporting or twatty so I think people probably assume I’m a middle aged man unlikely to be on the extremes of driving ability whereas I am in fact a woman in my early 30s.

OK, I'll bite.
I drive a top-of-the-range Mercedes. There is no difference to the way other drivers react at all to when I'm driving dh's Golf.
Why would there be? It's not like it's a Bentley.

This may be because Golf drivers have a similar reputation to Merc drivers.

MrsTimRiggins · 11/11/2022 22:37

Oh for sure. I’ve two pick up trucks and a ‘normal’ hatchback car. People are much less inclined to be arseholes when I’m in the trucks.. it irritates me no end that this is much less likely to be to do with the vehicles themselves as it is the fact that it’s assumed a man is probably driving and thus other men behave much better.

NCFT0922 · 11/11/2022 22:38

@Neerdoneerdo haha you’d love me. Expensive AND a 4x4 AND with a private reg 😂 I’m a really lovely driver 😆

MrsTimRiggins · 11/11/2022 22:40

Oh I misread the question 😂 what a dimwit. Well I suppose I judge a bit too. Honda Jazz is going to be a slowpoke, white series 1 bmw or a1/a3, probably driven poorly by a teenager/early twenties kid with it on finance, spotless Range with big alloys, twat. That sort of thing.

mourndayclub · 11/11/2022 22:46

Weirdly I notice that when I drive the Tesla (model x) Audi, Mercedes and bmw drivers are more aggressive, driving up my rear, undertaking at speed that kind of thing.. I think some people have a problem with electric cars being faster Hmm

Bentleys are very common around me...footballers with big wallets and tiny brains. 🤷‍♀️

And me, mind you that might have something to do with the fact that I live a mile away from where they are made😁

LesOliviers · 11/11/2022 22:52

I don't think I judge other people by their cars but it definitely happens. I have a tiny Toyota Aygo and dh has a Ford Ranger truck. We both drive each others vehicles and we both agree that other drivers treat you differently depending on which car you're driving - therefore they must have made some sort of judgement because of the car. For example, I'm always getting bullied out of the right hand lane of the motorway (tailgaters) in the Aygo, but this would be very rare when I'm driving the Ranger. Therefore they must've made some sort of prejudgement, as my driving is the same.

Katkinsgreyy · 11/11/2022 22:52

I suppose I do judge 😅
Nissan jukes. No spatial awareness, can't reverse bay park.
Range rovers. Bullies or bad at driving so need to feel "safe" in a big car 😂

MarshaMelrose · 11/11/2022 22:53

No.

Will always judge a white Range Rover.

Jalepenojello · 11/11/2022 22:57

If there is a wanker on the road, it’s usually a Audi or bmw driver. Sorry. However I’d never be rude and I’d be as accommodating to a driver of these types of cars as any others. But when someone is a dickhead and it’s a bmw/Audi driver I’m like “ahh makes sense”

Theradioisoncoco · 11/11/2022 22:59

I totally judge cars . Hate BMW drivers with a passion and will never let a Range Rover anywhere near me if I can help it. If there's ever a car filling your rear view mirror it's a BMW and if ever there's a twat flooring it past you doing 7 miles to the gallon with no thought for the poor old planet, it'll be a Range Rover.

Anyone else I'm completely fine with.

Curious q @Theradioisoncoco for you

if the Range Rover is a p510e with a plug in hybrid capability (can do around 60 miles in town on electric power only) is that still twattish to you because they drive a big expensive vehicle?

It's complete enough for this thread.

Not really, except for people who drive Dacia Dusters. I judge them as being incompetent drivers, as most of them are, ime. I realise that's quite oddly specific. 😉

Oops, that's me! I don't think I'm that incompetent. Grin

I only judge if someone does something dickish. Otherwise I'm usually oblivious to what make other cars are.

Not sure why the poster was picking on the OP getting an Audi. When I've looked for a second hand car with specific requirements pickings have been quite low. It's how we ended up with a Fiat Multipla once, or Ugly Cars as I call them. (Actually a very good and spacious car, despite appearances)

miceonabranch · 11/11/2022 21:01

Honda Jazz drivers always seem to drive everywhere at 25-30mph.

I'm not keen on BMW drivers as they're usually aggressive and up my arse even though I'm not a slow driver.

4x4 drivers are also aggressive and think they own the road. One had to give way to me yesterday whilst I was doing a brief manoeuvre and he started gesticulating at me. Bellend.

Came on to say honda jazz. There's one parked in the middle of a river near where I live. As I was paddling up to it I said to DP that I bet it's a jazz and sure enough it was!

mourndayclub · 11/11/2022 23:11

My first car was a Honda Jazz Blush age 17/18 I'm mortified to say I thought I was really cool and bought black hubcaps for it

mourndayclub · 11/11/2022 23:12

Mmm good question. Afraid the answer is still yes though. They take up an inordinate amount of space, are far more likely to kill someone if they get hit by one, must consume more resources to build, more materials etc. They're just great big boxes on wheels, never going to be economical with that thermodynamic drag, I just don't get the attraction. People I know who own them are just total and utter show offs to put it politely. I'm just being honest to the question asked.

Zipps · 11/11/2022 23:32

Yes I do judge 4x4's especially white - tells me you want people to think you are well off whilst actually having to work all hours to afford the damn thing that does not impress anyone except your mates.
And anything ridiculously loud (unless it's a motorcycle - loud pipes save lives!) or big I immediately think - Most likely to be a bit thick living in a crap rental in a not very nice town and can't drive well especially when randomly mounting pavements in front of pedestrians.
Plus really old people with the speed and reaction of a slow tortoise who should have given up their licence years ago.

Ordinary size cars don't bother me whatever they are as long as people can drive them properly.
