Do you judge other drivers by their car make?

Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

Driving a fiat 500 I regularly have (men) drivers tailgate me, I could be speeding myself and it makes no difference. My partner drives and audi and never has this in his car, but it happens to him if he drives my car... people seem to get angry when they see a car that they assume is being driven by a young woman.

Perhaps in your world there isn’t a need but …………

I live in a city so there isn't a need but ............

Are Nissan Micra's capable of going over 27mph? I judge people who drive them as being extremely selfish for holding everyone else up.

You have to tell us what it is now..

Not all mods are obvious…

miceonabranch · 11/11/2022 21:01

Honda Jazz drivers always seem to drive everywhere at 25-30mph.

I'm not keen on BMW drivers as they're usually aggressive and up my arse even though I'm not a slow driver.

4x4 drivers are also aggressive and think they own the road. One had to give way to me yesterday whilst I was doing a brief manoeuvre and he started gesticulating at me. Bellend.

MalteserGeezee · 11/11/2022 21:02

Ah no, this thread has made me sad! I drive a BMW and I think I'm a courteous driver with really decent anticipation I don't bully, I try to let the traffic flow etc. I've noticed on a few occasions that white can men have been noticeably aggressive with me eg, I have right of way due to how cars are parked and they keep coming. I picked my car for the level of comfort and reliability it offers. It's the first time I've been able to afford a really nice car, I've driven some proper shitmobiles in my time!

My old Nissan micra regularly hit (illegal) speeds when I was late for college!

I’ve only ever seen Honda Jazz’s be driven very old ladies. Which could be why!

Yes!
I drive a "good make".
BUt it is years and years old and only cost I forget whether £1000 or £2000 second hand.
But seems to make no difference to people! They still class us as wealthy because of the car make!

I don’t live in a city and there are quite often very large sand dunes in the middle of the road people have to get around in order to get into the city.

Then there are the raging torrents of water that turn dried up river beds into dangerous obstacles that have to be traversed in order to get on to the main road and the sand dune obstacle courses that appear overnight when no one is looking.

Try riding a motorbike. Everyone thinks you want to race them especially when they're only in their mums ancient Ford Fiesta and assumes that behind the handlebars you're a young male speed freak and not a 50 something female who gets more satisfaction pootling past a line of stationary cars queueing at traffic lights and overtaking everyone that way at under 20 mph than getting everywhere at 90 mph 😉

I ride a Harley no-one tries to race me Blush

I drive a scarlet red 15 yo Audi Sport, but I drive slow these days - my girl racer days are very much done - so I don't notice any odd challenges. I ❤my Audis though, I've had loads (all old ones).

This reminds me of my grandad who beeps and waves at anyone who has the same make and colour car as him 🤣

It's true though, since driving a BMW I have noticed this too. Nobody messes with you like when I drove a Ford Fiesta and we all let each other in etc. It's quite nice actually.

dragonchops · 11/11/2022 21:07

My DH is director level at a FTSE 100 company, and is proud of how his Fiesta stands its ground in a car park full of company cars. I sometimes tease him that he might have been promoted more quickly if he's had something more inkeeping with the role. 🙂

Flamingle18 · 11/11/2022 21:08

I drive a little Citroen C1 and those things happen to me too. People rarely let on to say thank you anymore when you let them go, or let you out even if it doesn't put them out!
Sadly common courtesy is dying out so it's not your car, it's rude, arrogant drivers that are the problem!

OrangePomander · 11/11/2022 21:10

Most people around here are courteous, I guess it depends on location maybe

SavoirFlair · 11/11/2022 21:11

This OP and thread is hilarious. Might as well be retitled “tell me you drive an Audi without titling your post ‘I drive an Audi’.”

My favourite bit was this:

it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs

I can’t even… 😃

Back on topic, Britain is bloody weird about cars, and since PCP it’s got so much worse because so many more people can afford a newish Audi, Merc, or BMW. Because clearly these are the only three makes, along with Land Rover’s Range Rover and Discovery sub brands, to aspire to.

I judge people with SUVs (up themselves/status conscious and don't give a tiny toss about the environment, happy for the other car to be at much higher risk if there's any kind of accident).
I judge people with very expensive cars and/or unnecessarily large cars, and people with personalised numberplates.
I judge people whose cars spew black smoke because they don't want to pay for a service.

I need an SUV on two counts. First I live on the top of a ruddy great cliff. To access my village requires climbing a steep on every access road so not having 4 week drive makes getting home impossible when we have bad weather. We also have a natural spring from the cliff that leaks onto the road which freezes and makes the road impassable without 4 wheel drive.
Secondly, I have mobility issues and I need a high seat in order to get in and out of the car. Our other car is a Mazda 2 andI can’t get out of it without help.

SavoirFlair · 11/11/2022 21:14

What was the criteria OP?

• Must be Audi
• Must have four rings on the bonnet
• Must be designed in Ingolstadt?

😂

chelle0 · 11/11/2022 21:15

BMW driver, mostly I'm courteous and will let people go, merge, whatever. Unless I have a screaming toddler in the car, then I don't.

The only judging I do is men in tiny cars. 6ft+ and in a 107? Just no.

Christmasamtryigtogetexcited · 11/11/2022 21:15

Unfortunately black Audi in our areas are shitty drivers or drug dealers!

Why are you rude? You know nothing about our situation at the time.

I can 100% agree with this. I think I’m a considerate driver (always let people in, never tailgate, don’t push in etc). In all previous cars I never noticed any passive aggression when driving any other cars.

However since driving a Bentley - no one lets you in/gives way, men try to race you from red lights, you get beeped when it’s not even your fault. My style of driving has not changed.

Is this post serious? So someone who is consuming less fuel, taking up less space when parking, is worthy of judgement just because they’re tall and should be driving something bigger according to you?

If the 6’ 3” guy was in a Lotus Elise would he be judged too?

Hold on I get it sorry. All big men should drive big cars because it’s not manly to otherwise.

in fact if only the state provided cars according to a man’s height or cock size, then we’d be able to understand why a man has made his driving choice that day.

jesus, this site

i only notice car makes if they drive like muppets.
