Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

@SavoirFlair absolutely!

Why are you rude? You know nothing about our situation at the time.

Well it’s your thread. I don’t know you.

Tell us please about your “situation at the time” which meant a product designed by Audi was literally the only car choice available to you.

I genuinely am curious, but I get the feeling we might not learn this.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 11/11/2022 21:20

I’m sure ppl judge that my husband drives a Dacia. Tbf our funniest one was when we had a Ford ka in 00s. I think ppl liked to race us after lights turned but bloody thing was like a rocket ship

Because we needed an estate to fit a wheelchair and a pram and 2 car seats in for less than £6k. The old 2008 Audi A4 was the only thing that we could afford is that ok with you?

Only people who are in hyundai i10/i20 as 99% of the time they're being driven by 85+ year old Doris who won't go over 15mph, I audibly sigh when I see one ahead of me at traffic lights as driving in 2nd gear down the road without being able to overtake is frustrating as fuck

k1233 · 11/11/2022 21:21

For me it's volvo drivers (those are much rarer where I am these days) and male hat drivers. Anytime there's a male wearing a hat while driving you can bet he drives like shit.

A male, hat wearing volvo driver is the worst possible combination.

SunlightThroughTrees · 11/11/2022 21:22

I think people in Range Rovers almost always drive like twats.

I think the UK is full of people who have SUVs who aren’t actually skilled enough to drive a car of that size. They often drive aggressively partly because they feel like a big shot in relatively expensive cars but also because they simply aren’t skilled enough to, for example, manoeuvre their large car into a gap in between parked cars to give way to someone coming in the opposite direction.

I drive a small hatchback and people cut me up about 374925 times more when I drive that car compared to my husband’s SUV.

OldReliable · 11/11/2022 21:23

I don't tend to let posh cars out of side roads. Mainly BMWs, Range Rovers, that kind of thing. They're usually the make of car that's tailgating me or driving obnoxiously. So, sorry - they can wait a bit longer. Also don't let anyone out if i think they're going to drive really slowly.

2 cars here, little run around and bigger family car. Live quite rurally. One main road to the village. Always get white van men chasing me in the run around - a bit like the PP thinking it’s a little old granny they can intimidate because it’s a small car and a cheaper brand. Never get it in the bigger car.

horsemama · 11/11/2022 21:24

Only the ones that claim they can't afford to pay child maintenance, but drive top of the range Land Rovers

I was behind a car who let a tractor out the other day. Who does that?

Because we needed an estate to fit a wheelchair and a pram and 2 car seats in for less than £6k. The old 2008 Audi A4 was the only thing that we could afford is that ok with you?

but in that price bracket you could afford a

Volkswagen Passat
Skoda Octavia
Toyota Avensis
Ford Focus
Volkswagen Golf

etc..

You could have afforded all of these, but the Audi is the one you chose

of course that’s “ok” but why not just say “we wanted an Audi”

Whats wrong with that? There are literally dozens of manufacturers of estate cars in your price bracket but you wanted an Audi. Fair enough!

I just don’t get the “it was the only car out there in my price”… surely there were more, but they had the wrong badge? They can all fit wheelchairs and prams and stuff, believe me I know.

littlepeas · 11/11/2022 21:26

This has been a strangely cheerful thread!

OldReliable · 11/11/2022 21:26

I used to get mostly men in bmws, Mercedes etc trying to push me around when i first started driving, driving up my arse and trying to overtake dangerously because they couldn't bear a young woman in a small car to be in front of them. They saw a small car and thought i was fair game. Arseholes.

Because we needed a car immediately. And that was what was available. You’re obviously one of those people that I’m talking about in my op.

My husbands a male hat driver 🤣

Well that there explains your problem 😃 he probably got lee way when driving a less notorious brand, but now he's in an Audi he'll come across as an entitled prick. Very pleased I could help you get to the bottom of the issue!

Agree with @SunlightThroughTrees - so many school parents have (financed) 4x4s and it’s embarrassing to watch them try and park or pull in cos they’re unaware they can fit through the gap between a parked car and the car approaching them.

On the financing thing - anyone else found it’s always the less well off people who seem to go for the fanciest of cars? The irony being that where we are, given salaries, the only people with the brand new 4x4s are those who could never buy them outright. They’re almost a reverse status symbol now 😆 The people with the real cash have their battered old Saabs and Volvos (some drivers have hats, others don’t).

I think you're literally the only person who gives a shit why she bought an audi. Did you want an audi too but couldn't have one? Is that why you're on her case?

SavoirFlair · 11/11/2022 21:29

No I’m not one of those people you are talking about. I don’t have envy or dislike for Audi. I even let them out at junctions!

I didn’t create a post about perceived envy to reinforce my own self-perception about my “premium segment” car choice.

I’m happy with my car, I’m not worried about what people think because I generally don’t give a flying toss what anyone thinks about a thing that gets me from A to B.
