Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

Agree!

BMW makes such a huge range of cars these days, they are a very common sight.
In the olden days when they were the preserve of alpha male twats it used to amuse me to see them battle - like stags clashing antlers for every tiny perceived advantage in heavy traffic.

ghostyslovesheets · 12/11/2022 13:36

I drive a Dacia Duster - have done for 5 years - they are cheap!

I once had 3 points on my license (18 years ago) but that was while driving a Subaru RB320

So clean license, 0 insurance claims, regularly drive down France and back with no incidents, prior to Covid I often drove 3-5 hours a day for work.

Also, a fantastic reverse and parallel parker .

I don't notice bed drivers and their car makes - just bad drivers - usually the impatient, distracted on their phone types - also recently lorry drivers - they seem to have gone a bit feral!

Late DH & I always had big Volvos.. you don't get the 'tank' jokes so much these days, but people do still get out of the way! :-)
One woman in probs a Vauxhall or something slammed her brakes on to speak to a friend across the road, DH had no chance of stopping in time & wrote it off with a tap on the back.. ;-)

DS1 has a Hyundai.. DS2 son always had Beemers until his last one got stolen..then an Audi, now a big Volvo (yes, he's come round to the dark side! They have lots of toys, which he likes..)
DD1 has a nippy Seat.

@bloodyplanes I’ve just laughed out loud at this. Our 2nd nearest neighbour is a 74yo farm owner who has, amongst other vehicles, a range rover. I’ve just read your post to DH and we laughed imagining him as a chav drug dealer or, even more hilarious, a pretentious show off 😂😂

Not the car per se, but I do 'judge' Mecedes drivers...

Based solely on my extensive knowledge of Mercedes' drivers- they are incapable of calling their car a car. It's always referred to as 'my Mercedes'.

"I parked my Mercedes in the car park"
"I've left my Mercedes at home"
"My Mercedes needs a clean"

(I know 2 Mercedes drivers, so clearly it must be true of all of them 😁)

To be fair we call ours “the Aldi” 🤣

Yes I drive an Audi and honestly people drive right up my arse don't let me out etc etc
They are very defensive if they make a mistake
They sit in the outside lane and don't let me past

When I had a VW it wasn't a problem
Or a Volvo

Thing is I've had three Audis now and I love them

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 14:26

Also got told by someone they would take a lift home from me as long as I wasn't an Audi wanker

Her face when she got to my car

it would be a much nicer world environmentally is every child could attend a local school they could access with minimal transportation, obs if you live rurally it's different but the roads here are choked by school run cars.

Most of the children near me do attend the local school, I watch amazed as the mums leave half an hour or so before the end of school to get a decent parking space. It's a 15 minute walk away.

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 14:40

Also people in Fiat Pandas seem to often drive slowly and so do people in the Ford B max Ford C Max and Ford S Max they all drive slowly 🤭🤭

@LittleMrsPerfect · Yesterday 20:33

Only range rovers - there is no need for a massive fuck off 4 by 4 fuel guzzler unless you live in the country or on a farm!!!

How would you know that the country living farmer was not on a visit to the town or city?
By the same rationale people carriers are rarely fully occupied except for a short time on school runs. The rest of the time they are larger that required vehicles used by one parent.

Meeting a 4x4 on a country road can be a bloody nightmare - they are huge and if the driver is unable to judge the size of their car things can get very heated. I had one woman just freeze, she refused to move, not helped by the dickhead man who kept screaming at her about why she was driving a huge car down a narrow lane - she didn’t want to get the car dirty by mounting the verge, we had to get out of our car and talk her into pulling over to the hedge - 4x4’s are not the country solution for everyone!🤣

tiredhell · 12/11/2022 15:18

I do judge BMW drivers because to this day I can guarantee if a car is sat on my bumper when I'm doing the legal speed limit it will be a BMW.

They also seem to struggle with indicators

To be fair most land owners/farm owners i know drive land rovers not range rovers!

Findmeintheshed · 12/11/2022 17:26

Land Rover drivers are the worst.
Happily take up the whole road because they either have no spacial awareness (female drivers) or are cocks who think them having a large/wide car means they rule the road (male). These are my assumptions anyway.

I am often driving in SLondon so all Audi drivers look and drive like drug dealers.
Everyone cuts up everyone and equally we all let each other out too.
However I deliberately don't let out BMW cars or 4x4, or white vans because they don't seem to return the favour, & I deliberately didn't go for a BMW myself because I thought none would ever let me out if I did!
I also drive quite aggressively and that's slightly hidden by the more understated car I drive which is pretty sporty - but not the usual Audi/BMW/Merc.

My personal hatred is Mini drivers.

I can confirm that Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris drivers drive like they are scared all the time (I know a couple!) and hate driving.

Tell that to DP's fines for speeding in my old C Max haha, too fast for even a speed awareness course. 🙈 I can't say I'm not guilty but I qualified for the course and never did it again!
Weirdly, he doesn't go as fast anymore even though he has a much bigger, more powerful car.

NCFT0922 · 12/11/2022 17:53

@bloodyplanes he has 7/8 vehicles. The Range Rover tends to be his Saturday car. 3 land rovers.

Ginglymostomatidae · 12/11/2022 18:23

Best way to get respect on the road, drive a white van
No dice - van drivers are up there with being scumbags of the roads. Second to taxis

Becastar · 12/11/2022 18:29

It is totally true people do treat you differently depending on which car you drive.

We have two cars a black 22 plate Volvo xc60 and a 2015 Skoda Citigo. People are so much more respectful of you when you drive the Volvo. People drive so close to you in the Citigo but give me more room and let me out more in the Volvo (maybe they think I am the police).

LittleMrsPerfect · 12/11/2022 20:34

@saleorbouy I don’t, but usually it’s a status car!!

mamabear715 · 12/11/2022 20:49

@Becastar They give you more room in the Volvo because they are scared of you bumping them, as referred to in my previous post! ;-)

MrsThimbles · 12/11/2022 09:27

But that’s the point. Don't pay attention to them. Are they feeding you, paying your bills, putting a roof over your head? No, they’re not. They’re just like a snowflake that lands on you in the winter - they disappear and you don’t think about it again.

How can you not pay attention to them when they are directly and obviously treating you like shit?

DdraigGoch · 12/11/2022 22:19

littlepeas · 11/11/2022 21:24

I was behind a car who let a tractor out the other day. Who does that?

Someone who realises the importance of food production?

NellyCat · 13/11/2022 01:24

Can I just say big up to all the BMW drivers! Everyone hates us but we love each other! There's enough around that it's a pleasure to be driving now. I can't tell you how much less often I get cut up, pushed in front of, shoved over since I started driving one, mostly due to other BMW drivers being nice to me. Worth it!

MrsThimbles · 13/11/2022 05:36

KatherineJaneway · 12/11/2022 21:15

How can you not pay attention to them when they are directly and obviously treating you like shit?

Who are these people? People you come across fleetingly at a junction or in a line of traffic?

Just why would you let them have any impact on you? It really is all about them and who they are? Not you.

MrsThimbles · 13/11/2022 05:38

DdraigGoch · 12/11/2022 22:19

Someone who realises the importance of food production?

Someone who probably knew the tractor driver had more than likely been sitting for ages waiting to get into the traffic and gave him the right of way because it’s a decent thing to do.

Bllueblazerblack · 13/11/2022 06:46

We have a name for those that drive Audi's. We call them Audi w*ers. Dreadful drivers with appalling attitudes typically.
