Depends on the size of tin and what soup it is, surely? And how much bread and butter...

CraigDavid · 01/11/2022 12:33

Half a tin of soup is a tiny puddle

i said in OP...

Half a tin/200g.

We have 2 slices of bread and butter from a 'normal' sandwich loaf, or maybe a roll with butter.

We have (each) whatever size a full tin of heinz is..

Ottercave · 01/11/2022 12:33

400g tin each here and a couple of rounds of bread and butter.
No way would 200g/half a can be enough.

Thefailinghousewife · 01/11/2022 12:34

Full tin / tub and 2 bread buns kinda gal here!

decafsoyaflatwhite · 01/11/2022 12:34

I wouldn’t consider half a tin of soup to be a meal, even with bread and butter.

I will have a whole tin with 2 slices of unbuttered bread. My dad will have half a tin but with 4 slices of buttered bread. I imagine mine is the better option!

SatinHeart · 01/11/2022 12:34

As an adult I'd want a whole tin tbh

MandalayFray · 01/11/2022 12:34

Might say it’s a portion on the pack but my kids wouldn’t be full from that so no. It’s a tin each here

MandalayFray · 01/11/2022 12:35

Although we do have our tomato soup with garlic bread instead of normal bread Halo

Hugasauras · 01/11/2022 12:35

Half a tin always looks like a sad wee dribble. I would have the whole tin and the bread!

Coldilox · 01/11/2022 12:35

A full size tin of chicken and veg soup (Tesco own brand) and two slices of seeded bread. No butter unfortunately as am calorie counting, just dip the bread in the soup so it’s not dry. That’s a typical lunch for me.

half a tin wouldn’t fill me up.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/11/2022 12:35

In anticipation of the way this thread will go

Half a time AND bread and butter - OMG if I ate that I would be full for a WEEK - that's too much food - I eat a tin of soup over 4 days and no bread - I'm 5ft 4" and a size 2 - teeny tiny me

In the real work - a tin is fine per person ffs - it's soup not melted lard

But different soups weigh different amounts... don't they?

brb, checking my cupboard

This is mumsnet so one tin and a slice of bread betwen a family of four is probably considered ample remember!

Stressfordays · 01/11/2022 12:36

For kids I'll give half a tin but an adult, that is not enough for a meal. I just had a full tub of soup for lunch, it was less the 300calories for the whole thing, I budget 450ish calories for lunch.

Cwcwbird · 01/11/2022 12:36

I'd have a whole tin. My kids probably wouldn't.

RobertaTheRobot · 01/11/2022 12:36

Depends how hungry I/we are 🤷
Depends if it's a quick lunch or if it's a dinner meal, and what type of soup (eg thinner soup of chunky ect)

I have sometimes done a tin each and sometimes just half each. I couldn't get too worked up about it 🤣

TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips · 01/11/2022 12:36

200g is less than my tiniest mug holds. It’s not an adult lunch, even with bread and butter. As an adult I’ve never eaten less than a whole tin of soup as a serving.

They show you that half a tin is a portion on the side so they can stay within guidance for salt, fat and sugar per portion, but I am in no doubt that Mr Heinz would expect you to be eating a whole tin each.

Some of the competitive undereaters will be along in a minute to tell you that anything more than a thimbleful every second week is gluttony, but I promise I live in the real world and we each have our own tin here.

dudsville · 01/11/2022 12:36

The normal sized tins woudl be one per person here. My OH has it with a lot of bread and butter, I might have a slice, might not. The big fresh tubs of soup we consider to be two portions.

Purpleavocado · 01/11/2022 12:36

A tin of soup fits one of my soup bowls. Half a tin would be very sad.

a standard sized tin is going to be 400g ( or near enough)

I'm just waiting for all the competitive under eaters to come on and talk about how they are stuffed after half a tin of soup and how we've lost sight of a normal portion size these days 😂

I always eat a whole tin of soup with one or two slices of bread.
