To think this is the worst virus about?

So it's not covid, tested negative as did DP.
But for a week now I have been wiped out. It started off as the typical flu. Body aches, shivvers, lathergy, cough ect ect. Now I'm extremely dizzy and faint and still have a fever. I've had both covid and flu before and they started to get better around day 3/4 not gradually worse!

Has anyone else caught this one and recovered recently? If so how long did it take? I'm so over feeling this way.

@Croque My symptoms are identical to yours but it's lasted all month and the fatigue is crushing. Have so many vitamins I could take but feel to sick to take them!

Oh dear! I tried paracetamol once but I abandoned it. Certain foods also tasted completely different. Tabasco (which I love and use all day every day) began to taste of overpoweringly strong tobacco. I put it in a marinade and tasted a tint bit and I nearly fell over backwards! I still retain a little of that.

Croque · 29/10/2022 10:56

You should try the vitamins/supplements with sparkling water. It has been a real life saver for me. I actually went off drinking water altogether even though I was aware that I was becoming dehydrated. I just couldn't do it.

I take 10-15 supplements. I don't know if they really help but the placebo effect is helpful in itself.

Beaucielblues · 29/10/2022 11:19

I'm off to get some sparkling water! Thanks so much for the tip. My taste buds are running riot, even an apple tasted like the weirdest thing ever. So glad that you are feeling better. Enjoy the mini heatwave!

Good luck - I hope it helps!

We’re still feeling terrible with it here. DP has been ill for a week now. I’m not looking forward to teaching feeling like this next week. And my eyes are killing me.

zingally · 29/10/2022 12:28

I had something very similar sounding about 3 weeks ago! It absolutely wiped me out for nearly 10 days. I had to take 4 days off work - which I NEVER do. I had a rotten cold/cough, a temperature I couldn't shake off, and horrible aches and pains. Just turning over in bed hurt.
I had Covid in March this year, and this flu was WAAAAY worse than that.

Robekinobi · 29/10/2022 12:44

Really interested to know what this is. Feel better energywise but still have impressive cough and feel hot although no temp. Have read paracetamol doesn't help flu so wondering if it's that.

Silene · 29/10/2022 13:46

My neck is still very sore and stiff and my knees too, still feel sick. It is weeks now and ibuprofen and paracetamol don't help. I feel as though it is some weird disease that nobody has diagnosed yet!

Croque · 29/10/2022 14:00

There was a report today about two new strains of the 'rona in the UK.

VerifiedBot2351 · 29/10/2022 14:44

@Croque it would make sense if it was a new strain which LFTs didn’t pick up.

Beaucielblues · 29/10/2022 15:55

@Silene I have also had the stiff and aching neck for weeks and the nausea 😵, Just to reassure you that you are not going bonkers! It's a real test of endurance. So tired but keep waking up early. Also been feeling quite tearful. Wish you better.

Silene · 30/10/2022 06:00

Aw thank you. You too, it's horrid. 💐

Everydaywheniwakeup · 30/10/2022 06:15

Am also feeling dreadful. Everything hurts, my face, my ear, my joints. I haven't got a cough but am having random coughing fits, like I've got something caught. I'm on week 4 now. It feels like I'm coming down with something that never quite materialises so I'm just stuck like this without it shifting. Done 3 LFTs (for work rather than myself) but all negative.

Green4567 · 30/10/2022 06:43

Oh wow. This is me. I’ve been struggling for a week so far. At first I was just shattered and just felt off. Then the painful sore throat started and the cough that makes me nearly pass out. Constant headache. Blocked nose. My voice has gone.

I’ve done several Covid tests and they’re all negative. Really really fed up.

mrsjg · 30/10/2022 06:49

TiredButAlive · 27/10/2022 10:22

I'm just recovering from Covid. Tested negative for the first two days and only tested positive on Day 3 as the early acute symptoms subsided. Probably worth testing again.

This was me too. Tested positive for Covid on Tuesday despite worst symptoms Sunday and Monday showing negative tests. Still isolating in my bedroom despite feeling fine.

Yahyahs22 · 30/10/2022 07:08

So today I've woke up feeling back to myself, albeit a bit tired but that's to be expected when your children wake up an hour earlier than usual (whoever said we gain an hour in bed when the clocks go back didn't have young children!)

So for anyone else with this, 10 days seems to be how long this virus takes to go.

I have never had something so bad and long as that and I hope to never have it again! Hoping everyone else has a speedy recovery

I have been feeling tearful too. Found myself welling up while watching Grand Designs!

MrsToothyBitch · 30/10/2022 07:20

I think I might have this. I start feeling ill the 1st Monday in October and was pretty ill until the following Sunday - I tried to get up too soon and was weak and wobbly and I still have an awful cough. I assumed it was flu as I had covid 2 months ago. I'm now mostly better but I'm still getting tired easily/low on energy and I'm wiped out every night!

Beanso · 30/10/2022 07:24

Are you sure it’s not covid? I felt exactly like that with dizziness for a full 2 weeks when I had covid a couple of months ago. I didn’t test positive for the first few days though

Yahyahs22 · 30/10/2022 07:34

I stopped wasting money on tests after a few days as I was too unwell to go out anyway. But in all honesty, Ive had covid twice and it was a breeze compared to this. So unless it was a brand new strain, it wasn't covid.

@ClaudineClare Bless you for my first laugh of the day! I have to say that this lovely camaraderie of fellow sufferers has really helped. Life is hard enough but with the energy of a 🐌 snail it's doubly challenging. My heart felt wishes to each and every one of you.💖

MrsDThomas · 30/10/2022 09:43

Yes, I did! Even weeks after recovering, I get the odd random trickle.
