To think this is the worst virus about?

So it's not covid, tested negative as did DP.
But for a week now I have been wiped out. It started off as the typical flu. Body aches, shivvers, lathergy, cough ect ect. Now I'm extremely dizzy and faint and still have a fever. I've had both covid and flu before and they started to get better around day 3/4 not gradually worse!

Has anyone else caught this one and recovered recently? If so how long did it take? I'm so over feeling this way.

I had it a few weeks ago. It was just awful. I liked the fact that my appetite was completely wiped out (no desire to eat rather than being unable to eat) so I went down a dress size before Christmas! I had to catch a flight while I was in the thick of it. I had covid insurance but I was adamant that I did not want to have to use it unless I was literally unable to move. I am generally very fit and healthy. Otherwise, I may have had to resort to that. In any event, it took a week to recover. As somebody who has not even had a cold for over five years, it was a weird experience.

This really does sound like a nasty virus! I was hoping I would feel better after a week but judging by everyone here, it's not close to going yet.

There are hundreds of different common cold viruses. I'm always a bit baffled when someone on MN asks if anyone has had whatever they've got and people say they have.
It's more likely that different people have different colds, unless they are in close contact.
You hear about a particular cold doing the rounds at school, or within families, but not across the nation.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 27/10/2022 11:24

I'm on my second week of it.
My breathing is shallow and I'm very tired.

You have obviously not had it. This one isn't like all of the others. It completely stands apart from them. It is not one you would ever forget!

Took the words right off my keyboard @Croque ! It's exactly what everyone here is describing. And you're completely right, unforgettable

Nightnurse is a bloomin life saviour if you have something like this and can't sleep IMO. It helps you sleep which in turn helps you get better quicker.

Yahyahs22 · 27/10/2022 11:30

Thank you @choconut but I'm breastfeeding my 6 month old otherwise I would've been sinking it a while ago!

My eldest had this. Even had a pcr. Nope not covid

It's really nasty she was in bed 3 days with it and never normally catches anything

What's "it"?

I really don't think there is a particular cold virus doing the rounds of the nation, it's that people's immune systems were weakened by lack of exposure during lockdowns, thus we feel rougher as we fight them off.

And FWIW, last year I did find myself in bed with what felt like the worst cold ever. A tiredness that I could not fight, completely wiped out. I've never taken to my bad for 'just a cold'.

Prescottdanni123 · 27/10/2022 12:03

Have you tested more than once? A colleague of mine was really rough with covod but tested negative for about 4 or 5 days before getting a positive result.

IndigoC · 27/10/2022 12:05

The current covid variants aren’t as well picked up on lateral flow tests, so you might still have covid (or not).

PizzaPizza56 · 27/10/2022 12:34

I've had this recently. Took 2.5 weeks to feel vaguely normal again. Was rough.

XingMing · 27/10/2022 13:02

Same as IndigoC. DMIL's care home says LFTs don't pick up the emerging variant.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/10/2022 13:05

Sounds like the new Covid to me

Covid is the only virus I've ever had that prevented me sleeping

I didn't sleep for DAYS

ThistleSifter · 27/10/2022 13:11

I’ve just come out the other side of this - day 13 right now. I tested positive for covid though.

3 days of fever, then extreme tiredness and aches, lost smell/taste, then it broke on my sinuses and chest; been coughing and blocked head for the past week but everything clearing up now. Not pleasant but it passes.

CoffeeLover90 · 27/10/2022 13:15

I'm sorry to say, we've been caught with this illness too. DS brought from nursery but was better after a week, I was ill for 2, got a bit better in week 3 but was wiped out for a couple of days after, just from lack of sleep. No fever but so cold I couldn't get warm at all, sore throat, cough, congested, aching and so tired. As well as dizziness and strange dreams when I did eventually get to sleep.

chargeback · 27/10/2022 13:19

I haven't had this yet but know people who have. I had a flu jab in early October and have had aching arm (not the arm I had the jab on) since.

It has really put me off getting any more viral vaccines.

Yahyahs22 · 27/10/2022 10:20

I gave up testing day 3 when it was still negative and couldn't imagine doing it again as I felt too bad. Perhaps I'll try again today. How long did yours go on for?

I think the NHS website says wait 5 days before testing (after symptoms start)

I returned 4 negatives until day 7.

I don't feel 100% 5 weeks after first becoming poorly, i know this as i do a lot of sport but atm can't... i'm knackered if i exert myself but i'm improving, so not LCV.

My DD works in the NHS, she and her colleagues think the latest CV variant of Omicron doesn't show up well on LFT's ... but thats anecdotal.

CrazyCatLady13 · 27/10/2022 13:24

I'm on week 3 now. I feel better for a day or two, then it comes back 😟 getting very fed up now

BarrelOfOtters · 27/10/2022 13:25

Horrible covis caught in London. Thought it was a cold to start with. Both got it and 2 weeks in still wesk as kittens.

Did you do LFTs? I got three negatives but the PCR was positive. It could still be Covid. On the other hand it could be flu, it can be awful I think some strains are worse than others.

Hope you feel better soon. I was lying on the sofa or in bed for 8 weeks with covid, another 8 weeks feeling really rough and then gradually started to feel better. Almost 8 months now and I think I'm nearly there.

I was the opposite, sleeping for about 18 hours a day. It is a weird virus, seems to do different things to people. I've had it twice, once no symptoms at all and the second time really ill, turned to pneumonia and 8 months in I'm just starting to feel OK.

Stressfordays · 27/10/2022 13:31

I've had it since last Monday. Yesterday was the first day I had any kind of energy! I'm still coughing like a trooper. I tested negative on lfds and even had a pcr as we have covid in my work place which was also negative. I'm never off sick but took 2 days off last week as I was unable to get out of bed. My eldest caught it and was the same.

justasking111 · 27/10/2022 13:33

Grandson day five temperature up and down tummy upset. His little friend had been hospitalised with it. There's some nasty bugs around
