To think this is the worst virus about?

So it's not covid, tested negative as did DP.
But for a week now I have been wiped out. It started off as the typical flu. Body aches, shivvers, lathergy, cough ect ect. Now I'm extremely dizzy and faint and still have a fever. I've had both covid and flu before and they started to get better around day 3/4 not gradually worse!

Has anyone else caught this one and recovered recently? If so how long did it take? I'm so over feeling this way.

Just been up to check on DS as he's coughing constantly. Now gone from freezing cold and shivering to boiling hot. Might be late teens but always worry about him...looks so poorly bless him😟

@MUMOFTWO220 oh my gosh im so sorry you had to deal with that how dreadful! I'm hoping your little one will make a full recovery and that horrible image of him convulsing fades!

It's an image I will never forget 😭. He turned blue and stopped breathing. My DH had to give him rescue breaths ☹️ but he's okay now that's the main thing 😊

Yahyahs22 · 28/10/2022 09:32

My dizzyness is well and truly back today. Head feels like I'm carrying a load of bricks it! And of course, absolutely no energy. Just want to go to bed but my 2 year old and 6 month old wouldn't appreciate being left to fend for themselves..
Never had something last this long before it's overwhelming.

Our whole household got wiped out with something. Tested negative for covid but it is awful, worst I've felt in years, sorry OP but its lasting ages too....2 weeks on and although I feel much better am still symptomatic, still got runny nose and cough and headache. Its proper dragging on and I am very bored of it now!

beenrumbled · 28/10/2022 09:41

I'm at the end of week 2 with a virus that is almost as bad as when I had covid 4 months ago. (I was quite ill then, off work for 10 days, which I had never been before)

I have most of the same symptoms as I had with covid but have consistently tested negative this time round. I'm still coughing, have a sore throat, exhausted, sinuses congested, joints ache, and I have had an upset stomach, and ear ache. Only differences were this time I've not been vomiting, and was able to WFH the first week of it (just about) - boss made me finish early a couple of days -but it's ruined half term.

When will a vaccine be developed for this obviously nasty virus? It sounds a lot worse than Covid.

And when can we start shaming and segregating people for choosing not to take the vaccine for it? Maybe start threatening them with job loss too?

Yahyahs22 · 28/10/2022 18:04

@orzoisorange hahaha. Hopefully never! Had enough of that storyline already

It is nastier than covid but my GP did not want to know, would not recommend testing and closed down any mention of it. I am pro most vax but I never had those ones which I do not even regard as being in the same category.

Merryoldgoat · 28/10/2022 18:24

It is awful. I was properly ill for a full week. Rounding on 2 weeks of feeling utterly exhausted.

Beaucielblues · 28/10/2022 18:39

Mine has dragged on for weeks. Nause, extreme exhaustion, lack of balance, earache. Has anyone else had a really aching neck and shoulders?

Beaucielblues · 28/10/2022 18:43

Also, has anyone else had a horrible taste in their mouth. Brushing teeth like thing possessed!

Angrymum22 · 28/10/2022 18:57

We have Covid at the moment. Very mild, it’s our third infection, and recovering quickly.
I had a call from the research nurse attached to our GP since I reported the +ve LFTs. Because both DH and I are classed as vulnerable she was offering the antivirals. Since we are both fine and on at least day 5 she said it wasn’t worth taking them.
She did say that although having Covid and vaccs does give you immunity it only last 4mnths so reinfection is likely.
Also flu season is here and there is a slow uptake so spreading fast.
Sounds like most on here have flu if they are not +ve for Covid.
Having had Covid 3 times it was no where near as debilitating as flu infections when I was much younger and much fitter. I had Covid in Feb 2020 the early variants were considered to produce the worst symptoms and even then I just had a bad cough ( I nearly took myself off to A&E because I was struggling to breath) but never felt I’ll with it.

Yahyahs22 · 28/10/2022 19:15

Yes to the weird taste in my mouth! And things smell very different! This time last Friday was when I started to feel it coming on and I'm feeling almost human to tonight, thank the good Lord!

Yep same for my youngest we've been housebound for over 10 days now!

Started off feeling slightly unwell, nothing unusual for end of term, felt better, then BAM
High temp
Throwing up
Wiped out
Not eating
I think we are at the end of it now, bloody hell it's been a slog!!

Oh he's just come in asked for food! Woo hoo

onmywayamarillo · 28/10/2022 19:17

Glad we're not alone! Because I thought he had some serious illness like meningitis at one point or a kidney infection.. never known my kids to be so sick

Yahyahs22 · 28/10/2022 19:19

I too thought it was an infection for a while. I remember feeling very similar when I got infected after I gave birth. Almost uncanny really. If it wasn't for the fact my household and people I knew came down with it I would've kept thinking it was an infection.

On end of week three awful. I couldn’t have the covid jabs after my first absolutely overwhelmed by it all.

LibbyL92 · 28/10/2022 19:23

I had this two weeks ago tomorrow. Only just gotten over it.

I’ve never been so sick. Was convinced it was covid. Definitely wasn’t!

onmywayamarillo · 28/10/2022 19:26

Exactly @Yahyahs22 I thought the same! Must be some sort of terrible bacterial infection.
I didn't get it though despite my kids coughing in my face etc... thank goodness!

Yankydoodledandy · 29/10/2022 09:28

DS 17 seems to be getting worse. Shouted me at 4.30am...he was sweating and shivering, had to get a hot water bottle for him. He's never evet ill....never been a sicky child breezes through anything but this has knocked him.

MrsDThomas · 29/10/2022 09:32

Same here. But i ain’t testing. Whatever for? If you’re sick, stay home and watch tv

dementedma · 29/10/2022 09:35

Relieved to find this thread and learn its not just me. 4 courses of antibiotics and 2 of Prednisone. Hacking cough, sinuses stuffed, no sense of taste and lungs crackling. Feel dreadful. Thats been about a month

pumpkinscoop · 29/10/2022 09:37

onmywayamarillo, it's weird isn't it. DH has been cough, cough, coughing - real deep, hacking coughs, his ribs are so painful from it - me, nothing.

We did wonder if it's because we had our flu jabs last Saturday, DH had already started to feel unwell, but maybe my flu jab helped fight it off?

Croque · 29/10/2022 10:36

I have to say that coughing wasn't the main symptom for me. It was the nausea, vertigo, loss of appetite and vomiting sensation. I was mainly recovered in a week but what a week it was! 😩

Beaucielblues · 29/10/2022 10:45

@Croque My symptoms are identical to yours but it's lasted all month and the fatigue is crushing. Have so many vitamins I could take but feel to sick to take them!
