To think this is the worst virus about?

So it's not covid, tested negative as did DP.
But for a week now I have been wiped out. It started off as the typical flu. Body aches, shivvers, lathergy, cough ect ect. Now I'm extremely dizzy and faint and still have a fever. I've had both covid and flu before and they started to get better around day 3/4 not gradually worse!

Has anyone else caught this one and recovered recently? If so how long did it take? I'm so over feeling this way.

lots of my colleagues and friends have had this - with most having a cough and feeling absolutely exhausted. All seemed to take around 12 days to recover. Hope you feel better soon

Pugdogmom · 30/10/2022 13:57

I am on the 13th day of this. Hacking cough and am on day 3 of antibiotics as have a chest infection. Tested negative for Covid. Supposed to go for my Covid booster tomorrow and been told by GP to rearrange.

I got better for a few days, and then worse again. This is a vile virus. DD has now got Covid.
House is a frickin tip, and if I do a bit, I need to rest for half an hour before I can do more. My chest is in agony due to the cough.

We are getting phone calls every 3 days (so are all households in the immediate area) from Daera because we are in a hotspot for Avian flu. Apparently it is highly transmissible to humans can be fatal and half the town has it and I'm on day 32 of Covid and still not well so dreading getting that on top. Ffs first swine flu, then Covid now bird flu, Mother Nature really is telling us something!

What area are you in?
Avian flu is in our area but only really affecting the farmers rather than general population.

BinleyMegaChippy · 30/10/2022 14:05

Im just over this too. Wiped me out for almost two weeks. Body felt like it had been hit by a train. Throat was so incredibly sore, hacking cough, blocked nose, high temperature, even my teeth ached. Felt dizzy. The whole works. Tested daily, but it wasn't covid. My DD was three days behind me, as she caught it too, and by day four, she was just sobbing in the bath asking when she would feel better again. Absolutely savage and really hope we dont catch it again.

Covid causes immune deficiency in people who had the virus in the last few months. In theory that means all other infections will be worse.

That study is tiny (15 COVID-19 recovered patients & 15 healthy controls) so you can't draw significant conclusions from it. It can form the basis of further study on larger cohorts.

ClaudineClare · 30/10/2022 15:42

House here is a tip too and I also have to rest after doing anything. On day 9 I think. Cough is a lot more intermittent now but still evil and I still generally feel awful with small respites of feeling OK. Don't even feel up to walking to the shops 15 minutes away. I am sorry you all feel so shite as well, but it makes me feel slightly better to know this virus is very nasty and I am not being a wimp.

AutumnDaysConkers · 30/10/2022 15:49

It's awful. My partner has had it - in bed for a week and another week recovery.
All my children have had it as well. They are really struggling. The body pains are the worst for them.
I thankfully haven't had it yet and am dreading getting it.

I haven't had Covid though, unless I have been asymptomatic and still test.
DD currently does have Covid and doesn't feel as bad as I do.

Flu still exists..

Yes but this virus seems to be worse than flu.
My partner said this is the worst he's ever felt. Worse than COVID.

memorial · 30/10/2022 16:14

It's covid. Lat flows are just not sensitive enough (the government is very clever numbers are not falling). If you did lat flows twice a day from the start one of them will be positive. But nobody does and are buzzarely convinced it isn't covid. Of course its covid. Us in primary care have been seeing this for almost 3 years now. It takes weeks if not months to get better with a good % suffering longer term effects. All this completely and utterly disregarded by the government.

Croque · 30/10/2022 16:16

Well, I hope that it is confirmed to be covid because that is preferable to having some sinister, deadly, unidentified virus. The behaviour of the government towards covid is currently appalling. It is almost as if they think deliberately ignoring or minimizing the problem will make it disappear.

Croque · 30/10/2022 16:17

Correction Perhaps I should not have said "deadly" but do I feel that it has the potential to kill somebody old or vulnerable? Surely, yes.

User17956743 · 30/10/2022 16:21

It wasn't flu was it, flu can be really bad, I had covid a couple of weeks ago and would have described it as a fluey cold but it only lasted 5 days,

Anyone had bad sore eyes?

DS has had sore, achey eyes for a while, he's been poorly since last Wed/Thurs...
Strangely shen he had covid in 2020 his eyes were the same.

getting worse not better. His throat is swollen but worse at 5am. Just keep dosing him up 😦

Really sore eyes was probably my main symptom. I literally spent the first week laying in bed with my eyes shut, listening to the telly.

I'm on day.......I can't even remember, 12 or 13 I think. Eye soreness is still an issue but not as bad. Energy levels are better, but I find a small amount of activity wipes me out.

I wish it was covid, when I had covid I was sleeping 15+ hours a day and it was blissful. This virus has me managing 3 or 4 hours of broken sleep if I'm lucky.

I still have that general aching feeling you get when sick, you know, when your back and shoulders all hurt and your skin feels super sensitive.

I think it definitely could, I haven't seen two of my older friends who are both vulnerable since I first had symptoms and won't until I feel fully well. I am really healthy and it has floored me. I dread to think what it could do to someone frail.

I haven't had this yet but know people who have. I had a flu jab in early October and have had aching arm (not the arm I had the jab on) since.

It has really put me off getting any more viral vaccines.

This is why I say no to most vaccines - last time I had the flu was 11 years ago after the vaccine.

Had COVID in July - was positive for four days and only a mild headache.

Last vomiting bug was in 1992.

dementedma · 30/10/2022 17:33

Been 4 weeks ill for me. 4 courses of antibiotics,2 courses Prednisone. Its horrible. Seems to be all sinus focussed now so lots of steaming and inhaling. My ribs hurt from coughing so much. Due to be in Outer Hebrides next weekend and really not sure if I should go

Dingalingo · 30/10/2022 17:37

People say they have “flu” all the time when they have a bad cold. Actual flu sends you to bed unable to concentrate on anything other than how shit you feel and tends to last at least 5 days, and leave you feeling weak and low for weeks afterwards. This existed before covid. Flu killed thousands every year before covid came along and added to the winter illness spectrum.

Yankydoodledandy · 30/10/2022 17:40

Eyes have calmed down today but feels sick now 🤷‍♀️

TheWitchOfShields · 30/10/2022 18:09

We were all poorly, including my niece. She was swabbed at nursery due to the amount of cases with the illness in her nursery school. Turns out it was Influenza A

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/10/2022 18:27

I've had exactly what you describe. I didn't test until I'd had it for a week, as it didn't occur to me it might be COVID until I suddenly lost my sense of taste 6 days in.

I tested positive - now negative having had it for over two weeks but am still feeling exhausted and unwell.

It's the first time to my knowledge that I've had it. Pretty unpleasant bug, and weird, too, with symptoms that keep changing, coming and going. Get well soon to all currently suffering similarly!

You know how science works and this complete nonsense is not it....
I know many people who have died or been severely disabled by covid and flu. But sure your personal anecdote trumps years and years of study and science. I despair.

Willygogs · 30/10/2022 22:02

I’ve had the same. Initial symptoms lasted 10-14 days, but still feeling wiped out 3 weeks later, and left with a hacking cough

BabyGrooverBug · 31/10/2022 11:12

Croque · 30/10/2022 10:44

Yes, I did! Even weeks after recovering, I get the odd random trickle.

Yes, sore eyes was a feature for me too
