They are just so out of touch with people and come across as so patronising and smug. They pretend they understand about people's struggles whilst earning thousands in salary and promoting £100 advent calendars. Today they are doing a section on butter boards! Some people can't even afford the price of butter at the moment 😔

Butter board sounds like a new inventive nickname for my fat but flat arse.

“get a load of that butter board”

No need for fancy boards in my house, DD (4) just scoops the spreadable butter straight out of the tub if we don't quickly get the lid back on and hid it in the fridge.

Nothing posh about it!!

My cat has been known to try similar...

V naughty butterball cat. 😻

AndYouCanBuggerOffAsWell · 07/10/2022 12:43

Make your own butter OP...it's really easy and a lot cheaper

TheSheerCheekOfSomePeople · 07/10/2022 12:44

I went off This Morning some time ago as it isn't the same these days. I find Schofe particularly irritating and I am not sure why as I used to like him 20 years ago. Smug is probably the reason. I don't mind them getting paid the going rate for their jobs. I do mind the nonsense on the programme.

mandolinwind · 07/10/2022 12:45

Serving drinks or desserts in jam jars and Kilner/Mason jars; serving food on lumps of slate; grazing tables; butter boards. Why do folk buy into this crap?

I've got a margarine board. Grin

Margarine spread on an old pizza box doesnt count 😁

Sallyh87 · 07/10/2022 12:48

Going against the grain but I think a butter board looks delicious! I may have solved the mystery why I am overweight 😂

Also, I am sick of thinking about and talking about the cost of living crisis constantly. Yes it’s important and yes I am very worried and keeping my heating off for as long as possible but I can still watch terrible TV and think about butter boards.

Calandor · 07/10/2022 12:48

And they're covering butterboards because they went viral on TikTok. That's what they do, cover things that have accrued interest online.

Naimee87 · 07/10/2022 12:48

i echo @ByeByeMr with the competitions and that poor man whose always having to advertise them… he’s so clearly dying for a bigger part. god know’s why its an awful show. Can’t stand either Holly or Phil… never heard of a butter board but looks pretty vile, its in-keeping with the cooking segments they have that involve wildly priced ingredients that no one has ever heard of… and you need three ovens, 20 pans, 6 spatulars and four whisks. You know just the everyday basics 😂

Due to The Cost Of Living Crisis, can I recommend the alternative: a lard plank?

Forage a bit of scaffolding board out of a skip, smear over a block of lard, sprinkle with whatever else comes to hand and voila Grin

I’d like to see much more about queue jumping and grooming underage ‘colleagues’ then.

Both if those things seem to have ‘accrued interest online’ but aren’t given much attention. 🤭

TheSheerCheekOfSomePeople · 07/10/2022 12:52

Urgh can you imaging the gross greasy mess that that wooden board is going to be in? How do you clean it properly? Or do you throw it out after one use?! And what about the waste of the butter, which inevitably will not all get used up and can't easily be put back for later. I thought we were all meant to be avoiding unnecessary food waste?

What's all that on top of the butter? Why would I want that on my butter?

I'm pretty sure King Charles III isn't using butter boards. The late Queen probably had her breakfast butter in tupperware like the rest of her breakfast. At a banquet it'll be all little individual portions put out by the chefs. It's not posh, it's ridiculous.

TheSheerCheekOfSomePeople · 07/10/2022 12:52

*imagine

Lard board you say...
Boak

ShadowPuppets · 07/10/2022 12:52

To be fair in the phone in after that segment they had a woman in her 70s who has a share in a racehorse and just bought a sports car, so they’re out there!

And then to Loose Women with Carol whatsherface bemoaning how todays generation won’t darn socks and Judi Love talking about her electric key running out. It’s all variety!

(my excuse: I am nap trapped by a baby and can’t watch ahead on any box sets I’m doing with DH😁)

PeekAtYou · 07/10/2022 12:53

Yabu to watch it. It's always been a tv version of social media advertising so beauty calendars and butter boards sounds like what they would be discussing.
It is unreasonable to say that you can't discuss stuff because of the COL crisis. Many people have always struggled to live and you could say that having a TV on and not watching it is a luxury too.
Shit like this is broadcast because people tune in and talk about it.

BarnetTroubles · 07/10/2022 12:53

@Sniffypete I think I know which you mean, but I'm not sure they were. I think they were actually trying hard not to look like they were, but tbf what was being discussed would have always sounded a bit like a piss take, whoever did the interviewing.

Octomore · 07/10/2022 12:53

FourTeaFallOut · 07/10/2022 11:35

What is a butterboard? Just different types of butter served up? With what - bread? Fancy bread and butter? 🤔 Off to Google.

I am just as confused as you, never heard of a butter board!

Bettyboo12 · 07/10/2022 12:54

Yeah but a flipping butter board?! Waste of butter and looks totally gross.

Disgraceful! flaunting butter in out faces with everything that’s going on in the world right now.

And the OP is not better. Bragging about owning a TV and being able to afford electricity to turn it on! Then goes on MN with her fully charged smart phone to brag about it.

So out of touch!

Ha, I thought along similar lines tbh. (it reminded me of a thread on here from couple of months ago where the poster was concerned about the cost of their child watching cartoons on the telly.)

Seriously though, we’re all in different financial situations.

Some people might be able to afford a £100 advent calendar. I personally would never spend anywhere near that much on one, but if someone else wants to and supports some business by buying one - why not?

Butter boards - surely not to everyone’s taste, but also an idea for home entertaining, so again, why not? Bread and (decorated) butter are fairly affordable too.

As someone said upthread, TV is also about distraction and a bit of escapism, it won’t help anyone if they report on the cost of living crisis 24/7.

ShepherdMoons · 07/10/2022 12:55

I think it's mainly Phil and Holly that I find patronising and smug.

I haven't watched 'This Morning' properly since the days of Judy and Richard. It's not moved with the times and the stuff on there seems irrelevant today.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 07/10/2022 12:56

Does anyone voluntarily watch this drivel? I thought it was just made for dentist waiting rooms, it’s the only place I’ve seen it.

Wherewassteve · 07/10/2022 12:56

So much inverse snobbery on this thread.
