To think Liz Truss just threw KK under the bus?!

Laura Kuenssberg: Did you discuss the top rate 45% tax cut with the whole cabinet?

Truss: No. It's a decision the Chancellor made.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-63074338

An Oxford professor has started a petition asking if Can Truss and Kwarteng be prosecuted for Misconduct in Public Office. Now we know that Truss will seek to shift blame onto KK.

But we all know Truss is behind it, those two have been thick as thieves.

And yet she has gone on live TV to pass the buck to KK.

If that’s the case, then why is she standing by the indefensible policy?!

Because she is cannon fodder they know they are not popular they need to get there again so they bought her in to make unpopular policy then switch her for someone else who will make softer unpopular policies but who will look like a pussycat compared to her and boom they will boost themselves up again because they will always be compared to the previous PM so soon it would be could be worse could still have truss as PM

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 02/10/2022 10:05

Bit stupid of her to attempt to throw him under the bush when everyone already knows they're as thick as thieves it just makes her look like even more of a liar--

the party conference this week is going to be 'interesting'

@Isaidnoalready

Who do you think they have in mind?

pompomdaisy · 02/10/2022 10:07

Ha ha so honorable of her. Such a good leader!

I have no idea, but all this writing petitions isn’t gonna do anything and it’s stupid and naive to think it will. Mind you, the great British public were stupid enough to elect these bunch of twats, repeatedly, so I’m not surprised they’re stupid enough to think clicking a button on the Internet will make it all go away.

General strike, march on parliament, besiege Parliament, that’s what needs to happen, millions of people

Well it's not going to happen. I for one couldn't afford what it would cost to do, cost of living crises has meant people couldn't take the time or costs to travel to do it.

Well the rights to protest has been curbed. Some people can’t risk protesting because of their jobs (in case they get arrested or something if chaos breaks out!).

So, petitions is the next best thing. This one about misconduct in public office is at least bringing Truss and KK to account in the law. Surely that’s a good thing, no?!

“General strike, march on parliament, besiege Parliament, that’s what needs to happen, millions of people“

besiege Parliament? Then what?

Croque · 02/10/2022 10:20

I liked the "I have absolutely no control or knowledge of what meetings he has tabled in his diary". What, none at all? 😮 Are you really even PM? LK correctly identified it's potential for a 'you heard it here first' moment in her recap. She will throw him under a bus to boost her own chances before 2023.

I'd love to know more about the meetings between KK and the fatcats which Liz is so keen to disassociate herself from.

Croque · 02/10/2022 10:22

Now that the novelty has (rapidly) worn off, I'd like to see her scale down on the usage of the phrase "As PM..." at the start/during every response in every interview.

WakeUpAndBe · 02/10/2022 10:26

Michael Gover went a step further and threw the both under the bus.

I really wish I could believe there existed this level of competence anywhere up or down the chain of power to pull off this sort of plot. But I don't.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 02/10/2022 10:27

She's backed the cut to the top rate of tax so completely that I don't think any attempt to make it KK's fault will wash at all.

Questionaboutjoboffer · 02/10/2022 10:29

Yeah Michael Gove went for it and also seemed like an intellectual giant in comparison Confused

Totally 💯

Questionaboutjoboffer · 02/10/2022 10:31

Benefits definitely not increasing in line with inflation judging by that interview. To help fund tax cuts for the richest. Liz Truss says she is worrying less about the optics - what about people dying this winter - will she worry about that?

Croque · 02/10/2022 10:32

It will probably be attributed to communications mismanagement.

They are all going to tear into each other now. I have never before looked forward to a Tory party conference, but for this one I've stocked up on popcorn and pick n mix 🤣

That’s the thing.

Truss could justify benefits not going up in line with inflation (as pledged already by Boris) if there wasn’t also the contrast with unfunded tax cuts for the wealthiest in society during a cost of living crisis.

Truss defence arguments didn’t add up.

That’s why I thought Gove looked like a heavyweight. He knows the rich poor divide has been too clearly defined by Truss. She hasn’t been subtle. It’s more than just bad optics; it’s harder to justify morally and economically.

Gove has given the green light to rebel. And he’s probably speaking on behalf of other Conservatives who’ve expressed concern.

Croque · 02/10/2022 10:41

She has had some last minute schooling in how to appear tougher during interviews. The problem is that it is still all 'fur coat' especially when she tries to correct an economist's understanding of economics. 🙄
