To think Liz Truss just threw KK under the bus?!

WakeUpAndBe · 02/10/2022 09:54

Laura Kuenssberg: Did you discuss the top rate 45% tax cut with the whole cabinet?

Truss: No. It's a decision the Chancellor made.

An Oxford professor has started a petition asking if Can Truss and Kwarteng be prosecuted for Misconduct in Public Office. Now we know that Truss will seek to shift blame onto KK.

Shapps has come out now as well. Saying the policies won't pass parliament

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/10/2022 22:23

Is Liz Truss the Edwin Poots of the Conservative Party?

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:26

Canning made 119 days. Poots three weeks
Liz truss ... place your bets !

paintitallover · 02/10/2022 22:32

I think she's lying anyway. Who the hell as PM would leave a chancellor to develop a policy that controversial without even discussing it? Didn't happen. Yes she threw him under a bus. She's a shark.

dillydally24 · 02/10/2022 22:34

That comment stood out to me as well. She is preparing the ground to throw him under the bus if she needs to u-turn. It's the only way she can u-turn and stay in power - Kwazi gets scapegoated and is made to resign for "his" error. I don't know if she will u-turn and I don't think she knows that yet either. She may still be able to ride this out. However, if the pressure becomes unbearable and she can't, that comment means she has the option of making him resign to save her own skin (and the Tory party's, as I don't think there can be another change of leader without a General Election). I'd have done the same thing myself (although I hope I'd never find myself in those circumstances!).

IndiGlowie · 02/10/2022 22:46

She thinks she's Maggie . Maggie is her heroine. That's who she aspires to be .

They are all going to tear into each other now. I have never before looked forward to a Tory party conference, but for this one I've stocked up on popcorn and pick n mix 🤣

I know! It's going to be better than Glastonbury.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 23:05

I'll have to buy some pick n mix
Love the foamy prawn sweets and milk bottles

I think she will u turn.

Gove is all over the front pages of the newspapers condemning her economic policy as not right and not Conservative.

In fairness, it is bloody bonkers. To stand up there and claim you need an “emergency” mini budget that includes borrowing (at high cost) to give tax cuts to the wealthiest in society during a cost of living crisis for everyone else. No emergency for that to justify. Especially without the Office of Budget Responsibility scrutiny - this kind of craziness is what the OBR are there for.

The lady is for turning then ?
She might get away with it. Depends how she spins it all.

titchy · 02/10/2022 23:27

I don't think she'll turn. KK may well be forced to fall on his sword, but she'll stay, produce something in November that OBR can vaguely balance, and delay a vote till next spring. Party will remain completely split but she'll cling on till next summer I reckon.

Of course she is.🙄 She's done that many U-turns we call her Spin Lizzy in this house.

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/10/2022 23:43

She said today that she was learning and had learned this lesson. £65 billion is a lot of money to puss away on primary age economics.
How expensive will it be to get her through secondary age economics? What about the other responsibilities she holds as PM, how much will they cost the country?

Surely when you apply for the role, you should have a basic idea of what it involves? Why did the conservative MPs put her through to the member vote knowing how shit she was? Very poor judgement on their part.

She should be got rid of for her constant use of the phrase "as your prime minister..."

If Gove is coming across as the most intelligent and sane, statesmanlike MP the conservatives have then they are royally screwed. Education anyone?

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2022 03:28

She may have learnt her lesson , but at what cost to everyone else and the economy?
K K is getting away with it lightly as well
They are nothing but a pair of spivs

Changechangychange · 03/10/2022 07:28

Just being reported in the Guardian that she’s u-turning on higher rates tax. But presumably not the rest of it…

cakeorwine · 03/10/2022 07:30

Next u-turn - Banker's bonuse's?

Was it about making the tax system simpler?
Attracting higher earners?
Having lower taxes?

SleeplessInEngland · 03/10/2022 07:31

Lol at the (admittedly few) apologists fir the lower rate on this forum. Supporting the tories always makes you look like a fool in the end.

Croque · 03/10/2022 09:11

Well, it just shows how Gove remains a powerful figure of influence within the party.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/10/2022 09:15

The best thing about this was some important political research egghead on some programme l was 1/2 watching.

He said ‘No government has ever won the following election after something like this.

He quoted President Carter, Jim Callaghan, John Major and a couple of others. That guy in the early 70’s l think. The public lose all trust in them.

🤞🏻

MissyB1 · 03/10/2022 09:16

Her first conference as prime minister and she’s made a total fool of herself. This Government are just making it up as they go along ffs 🙄

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/10/2022 09:34

The interview with Nick Robinson (who’s never hidden his conservative leanings) was excruciating to listen to.
Just how on earth did these incompetent people attain their positions?

Croque · 03/10/2022 09:47

They are quite well practiced at plotting and overthrowing PMs at this point in time. It should not be too difficult? If they act quickly and decisively then it could be forgiven by the next election.

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2022 10:08

Austerity 2 is back then :(
This is not good news at all on any level

Croque · 03/10/2022 10:12

I'll be watching the spin on this with interest.

The wheels on the Truss go round and round....

There's certainly going to be a lot of mud slinging
