To expect this school mum to have paid by now?

I sold some of my ds toys to a fellow school mum I know quite well. Not an insignificant amount of money and it belongs to my ds.

she asked for my bank details which I sent, on the day she said she forgot her card reader, would cash be ok, said yes, then she said she’d transfer. All fine. took them to school for her and I haven’t received anything.

i messaged yesterday saying all ok - she replied yes excellent - child is already playing with them and loving them.
I replied great - do you need me to resend my bank details and no response! we agreed the price and confirmed how to pay so no misunderstanding. They are well to do / but little irrelevant since she agreed to pay for them.

im really irritated she could reply saying oh loving them - but not pay or even mention payment - such as oh sorry I forgot or I’ll get it to you now. Nothing - I won’t be able to look at her the same and obviously will chase again for the money but aibu to be so infuriated by this cf behaviour???

Transfers to different banks do not take seconds especially on out of bank hours! 😂

The actual process of doing it does! And the transfer takes no more than two hours, regardless of what bank you're with, or when you initiate the transfer. In fact, as soon as you press 'send' you get a message to say this...that the money will be with the recipient 'within the next two hours'.

None of this ..."ohhh it's the weekend! It won't be there until Jenny At The Bank arrives at 9am on Monday to transfer it!" nonsense! It's done automatically...'Jenny At The Bank' isn't required to be sitting at her bloody desk to effect the transfer 🤦‍♀️🤣🤦‍♀️

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/10/2022 09:30

I’d wait a couple more days then send the message above. The get out of jail free would be can you check your bank to see if it’s gone through, so you’re not accusing her of not paying

cookiecreammmpie · 02/10/2022 09:31

I'd never take something without paying there and then, I think it's really rude. And the fact that she replied about the kid playing with the toys but ignored the part about the money shows she doesn't want to pay or there's some kind of problem. She could have discussed it with you but hasn't. £70 is a lot of money to lose out on in these circumstances but the same would apply if it was a tenner. I'd send her one more message today.

It's not the 1980s! It happens electronically instantly.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 02/10/2022 09:33

I’ve gone through a range of emotions whilst reading this thread 😂but come back to - she’s borderline CF and if she hasn’t paid by Monday you should throw a grenade. Especially given she didn’t reply. Rude. I personally pay promptly every time, some don’t - but it actually annoys the f out of me because it’s bloody rude and there’s no excuse.

Yes, that's shabby. I've had this and I do get twitchy after a couple of days and have reminded them. In your case it seems worse because it's a large amount of money. For me it was not about needing the money but wanting closure to know that job is done and not another thing on the list I need to do/chase up.

OneTC · 02/10/2022 09:36

In your situation as the seller I would wait until after the weekend because some people aren't as quick as others with stuff like this, it's just a lower priority but they'll get to it. Also it's the weekend.

This is BS. Depending on the transfer, it can take until the end of the day to show up or even up to 3 working days. Most are straight away but not always.

Lopilo · 02/10/2022 09:38

A remarkable number of people are like this. It is very annoying.

What bank are you with? So many times I've been sitting with friends and one has paid a bill then we split it and pay them our share. We send the money and they get the notifications within minutes. Same when I pay for extracurricular lessons for my kids. Lots of different banks. All arrive within moments.

My bank will only do transfers in bank hours. - Intelligent Finance, part of Lloyds (they are shit but I never get round to changing)

Moveoverdarlin · 02/10/2022 09:41

I could see your point if it had been a week but it’s been 1 day, of which has been the weekend. Give her chance. Start getting miffed next Friday.

It sounds like they are badly named then!

Weirdlynormal · 02/10/2022 09:42

@Zonder I’m with Intelligent Finance and it’s never instant.

Weirdlynormal · 02/10/2022 09:44

@SoupDragon we don’t even have contactless! It used to be linked to an offset mortgage that was great, but now totally crap.

mogsrus · 02/10/2022 09:45

Bet u don’t get the cash

All of my transfers have been instant but there's a little small print thing saying "may take xx hours to show in account" when you send it

fortheloveofcheesecake · 02/10/2022 08:14

Is there a class group WhatsApp you could gently remind her on? Oooh, that would be mean!!

This would probably make the OP look worse than the CF mum

katepilar · 02/10/2022 09:50

Lewiscapaldiscat · 02/10/2022 08:30

It’s not a tenner. But the principle is the same.

if she had transferred it - why wouldn’t you say that when I asked yesterday?

it’s interesting to see the split in opinion - leave until next week you tight arse vs burn her house down! 🤣

Why are you tiptoeing and thinking about why and what if, why dont you ask her whether she sent the money as it hasnt arrived at your side.

StapFooterin · 02/10/2022 09:52

Who cares how long it takes for a transfer to complete? The OP's 'friend' still needs to say something along the lines of 'just to let you know, I've transferred that money' and fecking apologise. The OP shouldn't have to keep checking her account to see if the money has showed up. The woman is taking the piss. Bar sickness, death or sudden financial ruin, she has no acceptable excuse for withholding £70.

shiningstar2 · 02/10/2022 09:55

I wouldn't send a reminder again today if the toys went on Friday and you've already sent a reminder. I would wait to see if the money is in your account on Monday. The money should have been given when toys received but as this wasn't the agreement a reminder on Monday seems best.

Flangelasashes · 02/10/2022 09:57

SoupDragon · 02/10/2022 09:22

Yes they do. Banking hours make no difference to online transfers. Anyway, it does only take seconds for someone to initiate the transfer regardless of how long it takes to arrive.

Wrong. I get transfers all the time as I have an little business. If it is not my bank they are transferring to it can take up to 3 days to show up in my account. It shoes as being on gone from theirs but not in mine for a couple of days.

Thegroaninggurner · 02/10/2022 09:58

It's not been that long perhaps she's bringing you cash, had it been to over a week or so then I would see your point.

Flangelasashes · 02/10/2022 09:59

However, That said, I would have given cash or used Revolut in this case. Money should have changed hands immediately and no waiting for funds to clear.

drpet49 · 02/10/2022 09:59

LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 02/10/2022 08:19

So many people making excuses! It takes about 3 seconds to make a transfer on an online banking app. Money into the other person’s account immediately 🤔 She’s taking you for a ride, OP.

This. And I would shame her on the WhatsApp group. She is deliberately evading the OP and not paying.
